If nothing else, she began to register there was a problem when neither of the senior Hunters were going after the giant centipede. Or, more accurately, that Stormy was, though defensive, looking to Gale, and the man outright putting himself between Kara and the giant bug.
"Am I not supposed to attack giant... maybe six foot centipedes?" She stared in bewilderment at Gale, looking between him, Stormy (holy crap how was she holding that sword so easily...), and the heavily bleeding creature. More injuries than what she'd given it. "I can clearly see the centipede is hurt, and I'd rather avoid the caustic looking liquid leaking out of it."
She'd never experienced anything like this before. It'd not crossed her mind that what the eyes beheld might not match up, even though she'd heard something of that other girl saying something about the guy's face being messed up, and it definitely wasn't. The thought still hadn't fully registered. Kara's grip on the pole of her scythe increased, but she remained still somewhat behind Stormy, even if her gaze mostly stayed focused on the creature in case it did try to attack. "Aren't we supposed to kill these monsters?"
It was just as well that other people were attending to the bleeding. Lin couldn't bring herself to help, not after having been grabbed, after the burning pain and the period of endless cold trapped nothingness. What if touching Lawr again made it come back? The people who'd moved to help him seemed to be okay, but she was frozen. The part of her that acted as an observer was mildly dismayed. If she reacted this way to getting hurt, what use was she?
She accepted Nora's hand to help her get up, letting the other girl urge her away from the knot of people. Other people were helping. They didn't need her, and she just wanted to be away right now. There had to be something else she could do that would help. The word hazing popped suddenly into her mind, and she let out a small, horrified laugh before she could help herself. This wasn't hazing. This was something else entirely.

Lin stopped to help Tyra and got pulled into some problems; my bad for not quoting you but things were going fast for a bit
If other people wanted that man's blood sealed back up, it wasn't her business to stop them. No, Nora's business was getting Lin and Sy to relative safety.
"Nice to see someone still peppy," she said to Brittney. "Let's get out out this mess."
Keeping ahold of her hand, she beckoned the other to follow and made tracks away from the group. Others were still in need as it was. She watched as one of the trainees was thrown a** over tea kettle into the dune and almost laughed at the sick humor of it. She really must have been getting cooked in her armor.
"Up and at 'em, dear," Nora said, letting go of Lin to roughly tug the girl out of the sand. She glanced at her companions. "Watch her for a moment, I'll be right back."
Hopefully, anyway.
Hammer in hand, the Sun went to fulfill her duty against the large centipede harassing the poor trainee.
"Not everything is what it seems," she explained calmly to Kara. She moved her weapon slightly; the greatsword was now as much a barrier against attack as it was a do not cross line. "Illusions and hallucinations happen a lot to us as hunters."
Gale, for instance, clearly saw someone injured. And Stormy was inclined to believe his perception over theirs: the centipede looked incredibly real and threatening, and she was watching every moment of its legs and wriggles with paranoid preparation...but it hadn't attacked. It hadn't even done anything more than flinch when Kara struck it. So either this was a devious long-con of an illusion, or the girls were being deceived.
"It's not attacking," she said, relaying her thoughts aloud. "Something's off. Gale, what do you see? Can it talk?"

This boss doesn't attack, it doesn't auto attack, it just takes the hits. Anyone is free to attack it and if it is defeated, the regular way, it just dissolves (or in Gale vision THE HUNTER DIES), if it is left alive, it will simply just stay where it is and do nothing.
As Gale sees it, they are too tired to talk any more, bleeding profusely (in non Gale vision, it's the poison leaking from the centipede).

Even in the throes of absolute agony, with the cold rage against death coiled in his chest Lawrence was aware enough to feel the sharp spike of anger at once again being called an old man.
"I am. Not old." he snarled through gritted teeth but his voice was weak. He hated the young man already, though he'd never met him before.
Tyra had been trying hard to ignore Kingsley's misogyny very hard since she'd met him and now wasn't the time to give him an earful about how insulting he was being. She couldn't stop the tears and knew there would be nightmares of this place if she ever managed to get
Lawrence just tried not to pass out, tolerating the pain as best he could as he kept his hand raised up. For just a moment he'd been whole, he'd been able to once again really feel his fingers and move his hand and then it was gone. "S'fine." he hissed as Roland tightened the belt. He could feel his conciousness faltering. "I think I'm going to pass out." he said weakly. "If I do. Keep the blood stemmed, if possible...if there is any..get help."
But even Lawrence's willpower and his indignation at being thought weak or old, couldn't keep him awake and he did exactly as he'd warned, slipping out of conciousness, the tension in his muscles from the pain going perceptibly slack.
"Is he dead?" yelped Tyra, who wasn't a doctor at all and who wished that you could just slap a med pack or a herb onto the man like in games, like in games where it was so easy.

Cee complaining about the heat and the sand was as good an indication that the immediate danger had passed as anything. He gave stressed laugh, sitting back on his heels as he offered her a hand up. "How is it you almost die every time we come here?" As if he wasn't one to talk. As if he hadn't had his weapon broken and very narrowly avoided a fairly awful death. It was an attempt to make light of a horrific experience, to soften it somehow.
As if.
Looking up at Jason he'd give a nod, half a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. He was grateful, he really was, just being here again, going through hell again, was all just a little much.
Melvin had been talking with Dawson when the Death Lead came with his sunny as ever disposition and opened a portal below them. The man favored the Sahara and Melvin stood up from the fall with an aggrivated sigh. He didn't think this was good for a first meetinf but he was here now and summoned Saliva without hesitation.
Melvin fired shots into the ground as the bugs swarmed around him. The recent memories of famine was making his stomach turn to rhink he consodered these insects his family. Not now.
Nora let go of Lin, and Lin stopped moving, just watching as the other girl moved to attack a large centipede. She had a hammer, Lin observed, and wondered suddenly where Anax was. He wasn't in her hand.
Summon me, the weapon growled. Lin put her hand up to her ear and found the spikes of the weapon's totem form there. It was a relief. She hadn't lost him.
SUMMON me! He sounded impatient, and Lin found herself doing as he said. The weight of the big hammer in her hands was comforting, in a way. She took a step forward, then another one, following Nora's example, because that was easier than dealing with the rest of it right now.
The centipede lashed out at her, stinging her, and she barely clipped it. Was this really doing any good? She stumbled as a wave of dizziness washed over her.

Once they had all gotten away to relative safety from the burning tent and the damn centipede, Dean panted, "Christ, okay, who's--"
And then the damn centipede melted away into a vaguely familiar form. he had to squint in the harsh sunlight, but..."Oh for <********> sake." His throat was raw and dry, but he couldn't help himself. "God damn it I hate the Flynn's."
Dean shook his head and growled a sigh. Okay, whatever, he had to see who was alive still. "Wake the ******** up, princess," he said as he smacked Dottie's cheeks a few times. He turned to look at Vash and Sonja next. "Dickhead, Buns, can you move? Is Toto kickin'?" If they couldn't, he might have to rely on the s**t he had read in Dad's office to treat wounds. Did supernatural bugs carry diseases? Probably. s**t.
Firing odf the last of the creatures, Melvin stood and noticed a lot of commotion further off and the figure of Caelius as well. "What is going on?"

None of the words that Cami spoke to her were making any sense, and Caroline just kept shaking her head, the insistence of the action unconscious and almost reflexive.
"I needed you and--and you chose--CHOSE--" She stopped and closed her eyes so tightly that she seemed like she was trying to will the whole thing away, but she just wasn't strong enough for it, even if she could have. She was going to throw up if she had to say it. She knew she was. She could feel it. She was going to die, she felt sure she would--
"Can't breathe," she managed, doubling over before dropping to kneel in the sand.

Brittney didn't know who the one-armed geezer was, whether he was important enough to try and save (seriously, how much time did he even have left anyway?) but there were people who were already on it so she might as well head off with someone who sounded like there was less drama.
She was Moon right? And she was supposed to protect right? Damn it, she was being a shitty protector if she was letting Lin and Nora and whoever else do all the work of taking down things.
Spotting the target, Joebob urged her on (and there was a muted roar at the nickname), and Brittney was glad to do just that. A quick stab of her spikes and she quickly fell back to act as a shield for some of the more injured members of the group. But that was when she noticed a stinging sensation spreading along her other arm.
At Lawr's side A tent was on fire, bugs shooting up from the land, and a few hunters looms traumatized but this didn't seem out of the ordinary for being a bunch of newbies to meet Famine. What stood out was Lawr bleeding out from more of a already missing hand gone.
Moving in, he rushed down to be by Lawr's side and while he knew it was pointless, fored his charge into him. "Lawr! What the ******** happened?! Lawr?!" He moved to touch his face to see if he registered the contact.
Charge used: The Chill Healing Lawr for 25hp.

Talking to no one in particular she remembered what Lawrence had said earlier and began to explain to Roland what needed to happen. To Tyra, to the guy who said this wasn't for 'lady eyes'. "Keep his arm elevated, best you can. Keep that tight." She pulled her hands back so that others could take over because she knew that staying here, herself, was not going to fly for much longer.
While all of this was happening her Ama's world was shattering around her. Where an angry woman had stood there was now a blank, almost ravaged look on the redhead's face as she knelt in the sand.
Immediately bloodied hands smeared themselves against her clothes to clean them as Camille pushed up and ran over to her mother, all but throwing herself down. Saving Lawrence had been important because he was dying. But now he was being cared for and she could return to focus on the people she loved.
"I didn't! Ama...Ama he was dying. But I'm right here." A hand reached out, careful, afraid of what the touch of bloodied hands might do. "I'm here."
