Nkosazana fell to her knees in pain as she felt the heaviness begin to build on her shoulders, but she knew she couldn't stop. She couldn't let herself stop, not now, not ever.
And so, she chugged on.
She would make it. She had to. She had to do this, for all the people who had lost what they thought were their lives because this insane Voice was so determined to make fake people for his fake games. Did he think this was a card game? Did he think this was a strategy game? She wasn't at all certain what the strategy was to this.
This time, she noted the desperation in The Voice's voice, attempting to cajol her.
The promise of her own Kingdom? King Nkosazana of The Silver Kingdom, she would be. What would she do with that? Everything she ruled over would be a shadow of people who existed in other worlds. She knew that. Her kingdom had never mattered--The Voice had made sure of that--and why would she trust him now for anything?

Sinclair would have started laughing at the ridiculousness of Zephyros' expression. It was so ludicrously serious that he couldn't help it. He laughed to distract himself. The Voice spoke again, for what felt like the last, tired protest it could muster. That was enough for Sinclair to feel like he had won. But as it was, silent laughter looked even sillier than Zephyros' faces. OOC Step Count: 290 Edited all previous rolls because I just realized we didn't need to roll all the way from 1-300. 8||

Unlike before, the climb up had become strenuous. Like there was a weigh he was pushing against constantly, slowing him down. The Voice again, warningly, never closer than before. Speaking of the same kingdom it had long since destroyed. He stumbled for a moment, the implication that he was just a fragment - what - I survived! This climb was becoming unbearable, but she knew she needed to continue on.
It felt like something was pressing on her chest, trying to stop her from getting to the truth that waited for her at the top, but she refused to be stopped. No. Not after she had come this far, without the companionship she so desperately needed. She needed to make it to the end.

Nevena was panting at this point, but her golden eyes never wavered from their target. She would have howled his name if she could, her fingers flexing as though ready to sink them into that stupid hair of his and ride him like the dragon he was.
Then, he picked up the speed, and she was left baring her fangs with frustration.
Aymet might suddenly feel fingers raking against his back...

As the climb grew more difficult, the Voice's power seemed to wane. It promised him everything - but the one promise it had already made remained yet unfulfilled. He wanted to believe it though, as he had tried to believe in it all this time, but- He felt something silently scrape along his back, and redoubled his efforts even as things grew hazy around him. Wait.
Why couldn't she say anything? Why was it still so quiet? What was going on? Something was more than wrong here, and she was only just starting to realize it. The first hundred steps had somewhat wore down the pure, confused anger that coursed through her veins, and now the oddly compressed feeling on this floor was doing the same.
What was going on?

This felt so hopeless.
There had to be an end soon, right? How many stairs had she climbed already? She felt like she was aching, like there was literally someone sitting on her back and shoving her down, forcing her to go slower as she climbed stair upon stair upon infinite stair. Where was the light? He'd been right there. Right there. Her feet pounded silently against the stairs, and just when she was about to slam herself into Aymet's back, the Voice had the audacity to speak up at that very moment.
Anything? Anything she wanted. To become a King of this place...
Her hesitation was enough that she didn't even realize she'd stumbled past the King, thinking for a moment. No. A false promise, at best.
But if she thought it could truly be real...

The stairs seemed to twist and go on forever. As the Voice had grown less commanding, the spite of the King of Revenge began to increase. Had he been betrayed? Something was going on, and he was going to get to the bottom of it. He passed by a shadowy shape, familiar, but his eyes were locked on the stairs above him, climbing ever higher. It hurt.
So much ... hurt.
When would this end? Nkosazana felt some of her determination leaking out of her with every step she took, replaced with an emotion that begged for the end of this Tower, with all of its steps. What kind of cruel joke was this? Was The Voice just trying to become them up infinite stairs?
And then she heard The Voice again.
The malice, this time, was unmistakable. It was resentful of her very presence, attempting to bargain with her to go back down. Yes, she already knew what The Voice supposedly wanted, but that wasn't what she was looking for. She didn't care about whatever fake thing this cruel and unusual Voice was looking out for. She just cared about an identity.
