He squeezed her lightly and nodded to Doc Jane, tucking Moya's hair out of the way and kissing her head lightly. "It lasts about as long as the baby takes, luv. All we can really do is wait." He didn't like having to tell her that, but that was all he really knew. Lugaru weren't born that often, not that he saw. Not when they lived for so long. "You'll be ok. And I'll be right here."

Moya sighed heavily and closed her eyes, a sudden fatigue hitting her. She slept until Doc Jane came in.
Doc Jane nodded to Nik and waited for him to get off. When he did get off she made Moya lay on her back and put her feet on the little stands and sat between her legs, poking about. "Alright Moya, you are about a forth of the way there. A few more hours hopefully then it will be time to deliver your baby." She nodded to Nik to let him know it was OK to lay down with her again hooked up monitors. She wouldn't but the IV in just yet so Moya could walk around if she wanted to. She left with a smile and went into her office to check some medical things about Nik and Moya.
Moya looked up at Nik and moved her feet back down onto the bed, another contraction hitting her. "I hate this Nik, I just want it to be over"

His eyes were sad at her words, but he nodded to Doc Jane as she left and went back up in the bed. This time though he sat Moya up for a minute, crawling in so she was leaning back against him. His hand immediately went to her stomach again, the other arm simply wrapping around her. Anything he could do. "Tell me what names you like, Moya. What you would want to name the baby."

Moya sighed and closed her eyes as she thought. "How about if its a boy we name it after your dad. I don't know what I want if its a girl." Anther contraction hit and it was worse then last time. She groaned and sweat beaded on her forehead.

Spotting a towel on the table next to them he grabbed it, patting the sweat on her forehead away. "How about.....Shilo?" That was a different name, and it was a good name for a girl. Spelt differently it meant peaceful, but he wanted it to be spelt different if she agreed.

After a moment of breathing heavily she looked at Nik with a tired smile. "I like Shilo." She sighed heavily and closed her eyes. This was going to be a long night for her. She fell asleep slowly, afraid another contraction would hit while she slept.
When Moya was asleep, Doc Jane came into the room, checking things quietly and carefully. She put a little red button by Nik so he could press it. "When she wakes up we want to get some food into her. Maybe trying to digest something will lessen the pain for a bit. You can press this button if something happens ok?"

Looking up at the doctor he nodded slightly, trying not to move too much except for rubbing Moya's stomach even as she slept. He knew she was scared of the contractions, afraid of the pain they brought with them. "I didn't expect this. I knew labor was hard and there was a lot of pain, but this...." Moya hadn't been scared since they found out she was pregnant. And now she was nearly in tears every time a contraction hit.

Doc Jane nodded and pulled up a chair. "I know its scary, but its also a normal part of life. In all honesty Nik, labor and delivery is the closest a woman can get to death without dying. This is nothing compared to what will happen in a while. Just be ready for her to be screaming at you and yet gripping you until something almost breaks." She stood up and looked at the clock. "Alright, Lets have her sleep but she can't for long, I will have to do another check."

He held Moya a little tighter at the words, nodding but not looking up as she left. He couldn't imagine losing Moya, and the doctor was half right. In some cases it wasn't close to death, it was death. And he only knew this because one of his mother's friends had died during child birth, the infant surviving but the mother suffering from a burst. Continuing to rub her stomach he sat there with her, hoping she was sleeping peacefully.

Moya slept for about an hour and a half, sleeping through some contractions but one was strong enough to wake her. She grabbed her stomach tightly and groaned loudly, it almost sounding like a scream. She finally gave up and started to cry in pain, looking at Nik and her body shaking. "Nik, please make it stop, just please make it go away." She grabbed onto his shirt and hid her face in the crook of his neck.

Her groan startled him, he thought she truly was hurt now. When she hid against him he knew it was bad, she almost never did that anymore. Tightening his arms around her he pressed the button Doc Jane had left, trying to soothe her, feeling her tears against his neck and feeling bad that he couldn't do anything for her.

Doc Jane came in the room quickly but not in a run. "Alright, lets see how far the baby has moved down." She jerked her head to the side so Nik would get out of the bed. He didn't have to let go but she needed him off. When he was off she made her lay on her back again and put her legs back up, doing the same thing like last time. "Oh Moya you are almost there sweetie. I'm guessing about another hour then comes the hard part."
Moya groaned and took her legs back when Doc Jane was done. "I just want it to stop doc, please make it all stop hurting." Her body was shaking in pain, her contractions getting very close together now. She yelled again as another one hit, more tears streaming down her face. "This is all your fault Nik." She glared at him as she groaned and curled up in a ball around her stomach.

The glare would have made him laugh if he didn't know how much pain she was in. Instead he rolled with it as he crawled in behind her again, squeezing her. "Yes, yes, I know it's my fault, luv." Might as well try to protect himself now, but she would probably realize he was simply humoring her.

Moya grabbed his hand and squeezed tightly. "God damn it! If you ever do this to me again I'll skin you alive." She continued to glare at Nik as nurses started to get the room ready for the delivery.

Surprisingly the squeezing of his hand didn't affect him at all. She had grown, but she still wasn't that strong. As the nurses moved around he stayed with her, patting her forehead with the towel still. "They should have given you drugs, I imagine you would be a much happier person then."
