She watched him, unsure what to say or do. His words.... they made her feel special. No one treated hr like something worth protecting in years. She was almost afraid to react, because she didn't know how any more.

She swallowed a bit, not sure how to react. Why wasn't he mad at her, or yelling, or something.....

About that time Maria bustled forward, reaching to feel the girl's forehead. "We're just so glad that you're alright dear. We could have lost you."
Antonio nodded, "Yes, we were all very worried."

"M ...me?" she croaked out, a hiccup wracking her chest. "Why...." Why her, why did they care, why couldn't her parents have cared... so many questions ran through her mind as more tears fell.

"Shh...Everything is well Little One. There are no need for your tears." He brushed two of them off of her cheek, moving them into his palm and closing it, applying pressure and heat to the saltwater tears. He flipped his palm back over and opened it, to reveal two perfect diamonds where the tears were. "Even in the darkest hours there can be found a speck of light."
