Elgarez sat up slowly, hearing the screams and ruckus of the other guests. He heard Devi crying. Would it really be worth getting in the middle of that?, he thought. She just confessed her love to Eros. It's his problem now. He left his room and did not bother glancing at the others in the hallway. Exiting the castle, he summoned forth a pair of wings and took off into the sky. He soared about the castle for a few moments and finally landed on the highest point of the castle. He looked up into the nightsky, thick with dark clouds and the scent of rain. He could only think about if what he did was right. Had she really wanted him to stay? Did she play him for a fool? Elgarez finally let out a small sigh and said, "So, this is sadness." His wings covered his body as he rested his forehead upon his knees.

Eros was far from the castle. He knew the others would likely despise him now, and he sickly hoped they were not the only ones. The director had walked out. This could be the performance of a lifetime, yet he left after only one scene. Spitefully, he hoped the audience hated him. Sadly, he hoped the audience wept for the tragedy of the lovers. Sickly, he hoped his primadonna hated him much more than the audience ever could. He hoped all these things would be true, but knew they were not so. He stopped to glance at the castle once more. At the top, the once-angel Elgarez stood forlornly. Eros felt nothing for the man. He stared at the white wings, pale face, and gold-spun hair. Eros whispered into the thick air surrounding him, "You know nothing of true sorrow. You have killed millions, yet you are still pure. I killed one, and henceforth have been condemned. You are a lucky one." He turned and began to walk again, his steady pace seeming as the rhythm of a poem. "How I hate you for it."

The men around him were drunk. They were pissed enough that if he grabbed one of them, right there, in the open, and drained 'em dry, no body would notice or care. He, on the other hand, hadn't touched his drink at all. The barkeep looked at him a few times wondering why the stranger had even ordered. After a while he'd look away again. It really wasn't his business, the guy had paid after all. The old fashioned pub was dirty and filled with working men who smelled worse than they looked. A man sat down next to the stranger and ordered a scotch. He wasn't like the other men. He didn't smell, wasn't covered in alcohol and sweat, nor was he drunkedly singing every irish tune he could recall. Eros thought he was spectatcular. Never before had he seen a mortal man with such thoughts as those belonging to the being beside him. "What are you staring at?" The young man asked with so much as batting an eyelash in Eros' direction. "Your thoughts," was the simple answer. "My what? Sir, i think you've had enough to drink. Let me-" his own gasp interrupted him as he felt something. Eros had reached the man's mind with his own. "Let you walk me home? I'm afraid there's no need. I'm perfectly sober.."

"I havent felt this sickness in so long..." Devi whispered to herself. "This is the pain of failure again on my part, this blame lies on my shoulder and every person here knows it...But if this be but a play then let this be my grand performance, if it goes well we go in history. If it fails may this be the swan song to my world." She sighed, feeling only the drama of the situation riseing. "If he truely loves me then he will fight for me...If he weakens, if he faulters, for a moment in time then we are not the fair destined ones I wish us to be." Devi knew what she must do. And she knew what she wanted to do...Her choice remained unclear. Her mind seeked out through the castle..."Elgarez...I need you..."

Elgarez appeared before the melancholy Devi. "I heard what happened," he said, "and I'd rather not take part in it." He crossed his arms. "After all, you two do love each other, right?"

"If he loved me...wouldent he be here with me now?" She answered simply. "I'm in need of company for the night is all. I thought you could help with that." She said, sitting down on the bed. Part of her felt she would be useing Elgarez, another truely belived Eros couldent really love her. And as she stared up into Elgarez's sparkling eyes, she seemed to only notice that she was alone with a pure and powerful angel. She smiled, wanting him to stay more and more.

Elgarez sighed slightly. "Very well," he said, "I'll stay here until you fall asleep." He took a seat in a nearby chair and summoned a book to his hands. He began to read, looking up periodically to see if she was sleeping.

Devi felt not the slightest bit tired, she lay on the bed in a small black nightgown toying with her hair as her own nervous habit. "Elgarez..." she pushed the book down very gently. Her eyes looking hopefully up to his as though he knew the answer to this great mystery surrounding her. Then she whispered. "I wanted you to stay for a reason..."
