Well, it would have been nice to determine my own character's reaction. What if I had been planning on her being a bit more stoic and less emotive? I hadn't, but still I could've.

If you wanted to incorporate my character like that you should've sent me a pm first; I probably would've okay'd it.

I can tell that this is going to be interesting, Aurak's waiting for the duel to finish so he and Marlec can duel, then a rock's being thrown from Liam to get his attention. Dear Aeros, He won't be a happy dragon soon. xD

Stupid mistakes I know, welcome to the club. But better here then elsewhere, right? (or so I tell myself)

No, I don't mind the grilling, I probably need it anyways to keep from accidentally writing myself into a corner because I didn't have everything laid out properly.

I use the term 'null' because it is an effect that brings the value of magic within a given area to zero. Although the black-hole discription is probably a bit more accurate, power is pulled in and stored but cannot be accessed or released. So far, this is open to change if a good story idea comes up, but it'd have to be a really good one as having her being able to access that would probably overbalance the character.

I've been thinking of it as a broad range effect for magical and psychic abilities, but I imagine there might be some that are beyond the 'wavelength' range that she does draw on.

The dampening comments were made in description because Inuki dosn't really understand how her powers work (she's still pretty new to the idea of magic, how could she not be when most effects would be wiped out before she consiously noticed them). Spells or power sources that can restore their magic independantly will do so once she goes away, so to her it seemed that the effects were temporarily suspended (er- information received from third parties, of course).

As cool as physics is (I took a physics for non-majors a while back so I know what you mean) why does magic have to follow the laws of physics? It's magic, by it's nature it's beyond the bounds of physics.

Edit: I just though of a couple of additional items that, though you didn't mention them, are in line with your questions. The 'third eye' simply allows Inuki to sense and identify the different magics around her, with practice she should be able to sense even the quick flashes of power before they're absorbed. The shields she uses are a series of flat planes that as they are pulled on from within lock together and block her from absorbing anything beyond them, when the pull becomes stronger then the force that made them or if the pull is unevenly focused or if there is some flaw in their structure they will crumble. I'm still working out where the power for the shields actually comes from. sweatdrop

Edit2: Never mind, figured it out. If we expand on the black hole analogy as some light escapes from the black hole some power can excape from a null. This power is a raw, broad spectrum, unfocused mess and is only a tiny fraction of what gets pulled in. This is what she taps into to make the shields, and it can't do anything else beyond that because it gets re-absorbed.

@Inuki: All rightie then. biggrin This really gives me something to fiddle with. For one, I really like how you said that Inuki may have made some incorrect or unclear statements about her power(s?) since she doesn't completely understand them. That's EXCELLENT in my book, as for one it allows for more wiggle room when it comes to mistakes (^^ wink and also adds a degree of realism to your character. Honestly, if you suddenly woke up with some new power you wouldn't know everything about it right? The only way to learn is by trial and error (both yours and your characters), knowledge doesn't (and shouldn't) just magically appear in your mind.

...Unless, y'know that's your power.

I do like the idea for the shields, and just double checking, the power for them comes from the power she absorbs right? If we follow that, I think it opens up a whole lot of interesting plot devices. You said that the power is stored, but cannot be accessed or released correct? Well, even though in you edit you said that Inuki accesses a bit of it for her shields why make that an exception? Personally I think even one exception weakens the whole thing. Instead, didn't you earlier tell us that Inuki and a friend helped set it up? How about if Inuki herself is not able to get to the power (if using the black hole analogy, I suppose she'd be like in the event horizon) but other people under certain circumstances can? That would mean that to get her shields back up she would need to either call her friend back because she knows how, or have to have someone who knows magic study it and re-create the shields. (CHARACTER INTERACTION!) And then even from that, if she finds the wrong person, bad things could happen. After all, there must be a lot of power accumulated in her 'battery' so to speak.

@Anima: Oh no problem! I completely understand, in fact if I don't get my grades going then I may be taking a small break too... ^^;
Also, I don't really know if a flashback is needed, there's about to be a lot of action going on momentarily (Inuki's Sheilds breaking, the duel, the rock hitting Aurauk...) so any more big things might make it more complicated.
I don't think you've actually missed too much time, there have been a few posts but it hasn't been more than a minute or two. Just try to incorporate what you can. Maybe something like this?

"It had taken Sylvia a moment more to follow Inuki through the gate. After their brief conversation, she had noticed that the side pocket on her bag was unzipped and the contents were precariously in danger of spilling out onto the the dusty, dirty road. She spent a moment re-fastening the side and making sure she hadn't lost anything. Then she slipped through the still-open gate when a chill that had nothing to do with the weather rippled through her body. Directly in front of her, Inuki stood grasping the arm of the dusty-haired boy that had passed them on the way in, a look of utmost shock and terror etched into her features....."
