I'm beginning to think I'm never going to get a job.
I got called back for a second interview, a good sign I thought. They told me I'd hear from them yesterday. I rang today, got through to an answering machine, left a "please call me back" message at half three.
I am absolutely gutted.

I rang today, got through to an answering machine, left a "please call me back" message at half three. I am absolutely gutted. Go in and speak to them directly. Not only does it show initiative (which is good), but it's also harder to reject an applicant face-to-face.

Some employers whittle down the applicant list by seeing who comes back repeatedly, because those are the applicants who really want the job.
