Serenity laughed inwardly. Ah, I see. Well, normally the first snows are gentle, and they don't get bad until mid-winter - though it seems as if we're getting the bad weather right away. We'll see what happens, if it gets worse at mid-month then it's a regular winter but worse; if not, then it's an odd winter.

Hmmm....
Daemon thought about that, yes that was unusual in a way.
Kind of makes you wonder which is worse.. .though for travels sake the former would be.
He finally replied.
I guess the only choice is to get there as quickly as possible, I guess we won't be going anywhere after we finally reach our destination.

I most certainly hope not, Serenity agreed. And for purely selfish reasons I hope that everyone is snowed in in the Borderlands. Or that it happens when we're there.
Since of course she would have the best excuse to stay with and get to know her son then, without having to worry about the wrong people finding out. After all, if they couldn't travel, they couldn't follow her.
Though as things stood she had no idea how they found out when she talked with people anyways. But the Borderlands did seem to be the only place where she was safe. Oddly enough.

You mean for safety reasons.
Daemon could read between the lines on that one, he really wished he could 'see' to help her, but that would require someone also helping her, she couldn't do that on her own.

Yes, for safety reasons, Serenity nodded inwardly. For Gion's more than my own. Though also for reasons of just having the opportunity to be happy for once. And not lonely ...
She felt that she would be able to bear her situation far better if only she weren't so lonely all the time.

You don't often get to talk to people?
He thought her exile was only with her family, though he supposed that not many people would like to talk to her.

Very rarely, Serenity replied. I can't contact any of my family, my non-family fears me ... the only ones I can talk with are Ulani and Ulrich, and the others of the Borderlands - but I daren't visit too often, I don't know if they're a close enough relation to be put in danger or not, and I don't want to bring trouble to their door after all they've done for me and my children.

I see....
Daemon replied slowly, and he thought he and his family had problems.
It would be very lonely...

Serenity gave off the impression of shrugging. I just remind myself that it's for my family's safety, she told Daemon. And then I remember that it's worth it. For them. If anything happened to them because of me, I would never forgive myself ... just as I cannot forgive myself for what I brought upon Garrick.
She thought the last bit in a very sad tone. She ached from missing him ... she always would.

Garrick?
Her husband he assumed, though he wished she wouldn't blame herself for that. The people who did such acts were the awful ones.

My husband, she replied, confirming Daemon's thought. The first person besides my parents to know what I was and accept me with it ... according to him it made him love me more ...
She trailed off, remembering him.
If he knew Elnara was also a shapeshifter, she added slowly, he would be proud.
Proud. An odd thought, considering Serenity's own situation. But that was what Elnara deserved, really.

It was times like this that he wanted to see.... see the threads that bind so he could give some sort of consolation. But well, he couldn't and that was that.
And it should be, she was very nice.
From what little he talked with her.

Serenity gave off the impression of mirthless laughter. Isn't it odd that I find out the most about my children from other people? she mused sadly. It shouldn't have to be this way.
Not that she had a choice, but she hated it.

Not really, I'll probably be the same way when I get back... if I can find out that is.
It was so easy to drop off the face of the planet in Gaia that he wasn't sure if he could track them down only his hope would be that they did stay in the mansion.

I hope that you find your family again, Serenity told him sincerely. I truly do. No one should have to be separated from their family. For any reason ...
She sighed, both inwardly and out, and looked down at Gion again. What she wouldn't give to be with all of her children ...
