kaori_c What do you mean by three ways? As in politeness? ok: atashi no namae wa alyshia desu. watashi wa Arisah desu watashi no namae wa Rabbits Galore desu. Though it seems the first isn't right, as it's the same as the first, only missing the w? or maybe it's the 3rd that isn't right. and it seems there's more than 3 ways said here: Boku ha Momotaru desu There may be more that I have missed. And then there's this, which I don't think is really right? Kaori desu I am super confused. If I remember correctly: no denotes ownership?

Konnichiwa, I'm nas. I like Japan, that's why I'm trying to learn Japanese. My other reason is I want to speak japanese with my japanese friends, not in english anymore coz it kinda hard to understand what they are saying sometimes. i'm learning on my own coz it too expensive to go to any japanese language class. So, yoroshiku...

Konnichiwa. Watakushi no namae wa Shimo desu. Nihongo wa, wakarimasen.
(Hello. My name is Shimo. I don't understand Japanese.)
Well at least not yet. Currently learning and thought it would be helpful to speak to others that are attempt to learn as well. So that if I make mistake people can correct me and I can correct others as well.
I currently use Barron's Japanese Grammar book to teach me the grammar part of japanese and use Rosetta Stone to help teach me the language. Hope I can get to know everyone!

Hi, I'm new. I was trying to teach myself japanese by trying to learn hiragana and katakana first. I can recognize a few letters (only hiragana) and I know a few words but that's about it. Its hard trying to teach yourself and not knowing any japanese speaking people. sweatdrop Also, that thing called determination and commitment..yeah...So, I hope to maybe come here from time to time and do a little studying and maybe even...someday..talk a little conversation with ya'll in japanese for practice. 3nodding

hi hi ~_~
としえです! (i am toshie) i am study 日本語 (japanese) right now! me and my friend/band vocalist, なおみさん(naomi) are go to 日本 before next year to live in 東京 (tokyo-to) shibuya-ku ^^
we get our band started there with bass player 悲し (Kanashi). Our band is 冷たい (Tsumetai , meaning..cold...bloodless..without feelings) and i am ギター player in band 8D.
also, i master ひらがなとカタカナ (hiragana and katakana) the sentence forms of ですとあります (-desu and arimasu) and know over 200 kanji characters 8D) and i am now study more vocabulary words and more kanji and ...あのう.... xd
i used "japanese step by step" orange book with helpful example and charts and stuff..and my hiragana and katakana book "lets learn hiragana and katakana" and my kanji book "Kanji Power" but u need to know hiragana and katakana for it! and many grammer books ..each grammer book has slightly different informations...and....O_O japanese slang books!!!!!!!! BIG MUST! also "making out in japanese" good for informal way to talk!
i am study definaltely more verb for ありますform 8D...i will like to perhaps help people as much as possible to help them get start and talk to more people in 日本語 for practice! ありがとう じゃぬ!!!!!
oh yes..pls visit band myspace! 8D http://www.myspace.com/vk_tsumetai

And then there's this, which I don't think is really right? Kaori desu I am super confused. If I remember correctly: no denotes ownership? the first is is right! atashi is the girl way of saying me...or i the next 2 are also correct! watashi use by man and women! and good job for say watashi no namae wa...! no wa after watashi though..wa is use for subject marker and your name i.i. watashi no namae wa is subject..just wa after namae ^^ or you can just say [your name] desu! when speaking informal 8D
BOKU is most used by men to say "i" and the kaori desu is right as i say its like informal introduction and yes no is like possession..rule of thumb ..."no" is like possession or like apostrophe for ownership phrases... in ...for example...his dog...kare no inu...or like..my cat...watashi no neko =^.^=....or....toshie's rabbit toshie no usagi !!!! remember study study! you do good so far ^^

Hello, I'm Kaesom and I'm new to Gaia. I've seen around for a long while but never really checked it out until now. Anyway, I studied Japanese through high school and college classes and visited Japan just two summers ago. I'm hoping to improve my fluency by talking to more speakers.
Nice to meet you all!

Hey
I'm Lucy. I'm trying to learn Japanese. I don't have a tutor (you can't get them around here) and I can't take Japanese at school. I don't really know why I wanted to learn it. I think I wanted to learn a language that didn't originate from Europe. I speak three other languages ^^

(I may have introduced myself already, but I'm not quite sure, so I apologize. ^^; But I figure that since I wasn't active before anyway and plan to change that now, I ought to just do this again.)
Komban wa. Watashi wa Doroshii desu. Watashi wa gosai desu.
Good evening. My name is Dorothy. I'm 15 years old.
I've been interested in Japanese culture for about 3 or 4 years now, and began learning the language in 7th grade with the help of 3 books my dad had bought on his overseas travels as a marine engineer but never used, + online resources and a dictionary that I bought early this year (the books are rather old so they're not completely reliable [the one I use most if from 1947 ^^; ], but they're still very useful.) It's been kind of an on-and-off thing for me, and the past few months when I have studied, a lot of it is just reviewing what I've learned and memorizing/writing hiragana. I know a few katakana characters, but switched to learning hiragana after I realized that it is much more used than the prior.
Um, personally, I'm into all kinds of artsy & creative things, listening to music and experimenting with it, playing computer and video games, daydreaming, and other foreign languages & cultures. Plus, I'm a huuuuuuuge nature-lover. It's my favorite thing in the world besides friends, family, and compassion.

I got interested in the Japanese language around 7th grade as well. I used to be into art--still have a great appreciation for it but I realized that I was more skilled in other things and that I should put all my energies into getting even better at them. Do you do photography? Good luck to you on your studies!
