in "Watashi wa namae" you should use "watashi no". "no" indicates possession. for example, watashi no negami = my glasses. im a beginner at japanese sweatdrop , but im positive about the usage of "no"

oh, and:
hajimemashite minnasan. watakushi wa ragnarok91 desu. sumimasen, nihongo ga yoku hanashimasen. douzo yoroshikuonegaishimasu.

nice to meet you everyone. my name is ragnarok91. i dont speak japanese well.

Your mom is a woman.
(please somebody tell me how to say woman)

I'm just learning sentence particles, so I'm piecing together random sentences. Please correct my mistakes.

Anata no osaaka wa onnanohito desu.

Your mom is a woman.

Is that a correct sentence then?

@ chocosamurai - eigo means to say? de is a particle that means "how" (or something of the sort)?
PostPosted: Wed Oct 17, 2007 9:08 pm

if you want to say your mum is a woman it would go something like:

okaasan wa onnanohito desu.

okaasan [your mum] /haha[my own mum]

eigo means english[language] so eigo de=in english ..

im no good at particles so i won't explain them sweatdrop [im sure there's thread here-subforum i think- that can explain them to help you understand them and where to use them a bit better] but i know that set phrase-...noun..wa eigo/nihongo de ..translation.. desu [what is ..noun..in english/japanese is ..translation..]

does that help? im sorry if i couldn't explain better

Sou desu ka, Natarii-san! Watashi mo hitori de nihongo o benkyou shimasu. Hitori de benkyou suru no wa totemo muzukashii desu kara, watashi no nihongo ga heta desu.

Soshite, nihongo wa totemo omoshiroi desu ne! Watashi wa tokidoki nihongo de bideo geemu o shittari (to?), hon o yondari.

Er. x___x Not much has come out of my self-teaching for three years, but at least this much has. I was pretty loose with my speech here, taking a few guesses here and there (ie. my use of the -ttari form, and 'benkyou suru no', and my use of the word 'hitori'). I still consider this relatively beginner speech, so... especially considering how advanced most of the learners in the advanced discussion are.

Help would be appreciated, and I suppose I should provide a translation.

"Really, Natarii-san? I also study Japanese on my own. I'm not very good, though, because studying by yourself is hard.

Though, Japanese is really fun. Sometimes I play video games or read books in Japanese."

XD Yeah, my Japanese isn't very good, so again, help is nice.
