Bardane's icy glare snapped on Antigone's back as she made to leave. "If you leave this classroom without completeing the assignment, Miss Antigone, your school record will be permenantly docked." And then Bardane watched Ubel move to sit next to Torrid to console him. To this Bardane said nothing, so long as they both attended to their schoolwork, he did not begrudge the injured boy his solace. But when Aysel raised her high-and-mighty views Bardane turned on her. "The damage I have wrought will heal. The damage an Empyrean - any Empyrean will incure from breaking any of the laws at the hands of a Metatron is irrevocable. The punishment for breaking Laws in this city is Extinguishment. It is my job to educate you all so that you will not be extinguished. While my Lessons may be harsh, they are important, and the message dire. There is no time after you have been mauled by a monster, or cut down by Outsiders, or trespassed the Law and Extinguished to say 'I did not know.' Ignorance is not forgivable if it is maintained. I aim to educate, and I will use any tool at my disposal to ensure these lessons are never forgotten." Bardane let his ringing voice fade into echoes. And then he stepped closer to Aysel, and there was a hint of softness in his voice. "If after you have taken my class, and completed your schooling and are deciding your desired Position to best serve your city... If then you find my Class was in some way lacking, by all means, apply for Chorus, and we can discuss the matter then." Bardane returned to his desk and tapped the wall behind himself. "Number 4. No Empyrean below Stage 2 may talk to or with an Outsider."

For a moment, Antigone considered to simply continue, not pausing at all, taking whatever punishment she had coming to her for walking out. Then of course, Bardane dared to speak to her lover like that. "You'll notice, Professor Bardane," she said softly, turning to look at him. "That Aysel is still wearing bandages to cover the burn marks she suffered from being attacked- with clear intent to harm- by the weapons maker Gregor. So perhaps you're able to see, Professor, why your harsh treatment for a fellow student who had only missed a few moments of a class that had only just begun is affecting her so." And she continued on her way.

Kallisto looked on with a look of astonishment that quickly turned ugly. What an incredible.... "Prude." She said the thought out loud as she stared at the strict professor. Was everybody around here so physical all the time? And how arrogant! Her lips curled up in a look of distaste.

The usual amount of respect she entered something with had been knocked down by these actions. Rules were rules, yes, but she doubted Bardan had been so careful to follow them in his own youth. She wondered if he was making up for such actions with this stern wall he faced everyone with. Either way it annoyed her and she said simply, "This makes me -not- want to be part of the Chorus at all. So much for inspiration." She huffed and stopped, putting her quill down to sit with her arms crossed. "I refuse to support such treatment by writing down these rules. If knowing them is the point, then surely, you can't object to my listening."

"Sir." Aysel began, cold intelligence burning in her eyes as she spoke to him, her voice still quiet and vaguely whiplike, "While the material you cover in this class is indeed invaluable and absolutely necessary, such methods as harming one of your students for a mere error is, in my eyes, inexcusable. If you are to impress upon us the importance of these laws, i would suggest not angering the majority of your students by striking them. I know that I, for one, am not afraid of you. Through fear, one may gain submission from those they teach...but through understanding, one may gain eagerness, competance, and a true desire to learn from said students." She continued to take down the laws as she spoke, careful to copy each word, but yet was no less firm in voicing her opinions.

"I can assure you, sir, that the majority of this class will agree with one another and find your teaching skills incredibly lack and very much infuriating," came a snappish tone from Ubel, who sounded angrier than he had in a while, glaring at Bardane without fear. "It is low to strike a student for something to simple as being late, as Aysel has said, and most disgusting to me that you seem to find yourself justified in your actions."

Torrid didn't look up from his seat, hearing and not seeing Antigone's exit. Unaware of his surroundings, he didn't notice Ubel till he felt the touch on his cheek. He looked up, offering a weak and grateful smile, and cast a look past him for Grave. He saw him crying, and despite the pain in his hands he felt a pang of concern. He opened his mouth to answer Ubel's question when Aysel spoke up, and so he held his tongue.

His heart leapt. He saw that it was Antigone that had made to leave, staging a protest of her own, and now the girl she seemed so attatched to was speaking up for him. Aysel's words were a comfort, though he worried she and Antigone would be reprimanded.

Torrid was unsuprised to hear Bardane immediately spout promises of punishment, and silently hoped Antigone would return to her seat. His justification for the injury dealt was a strong one, and though he ached Torrid knew he wouldn't forget the lesson learned.

And then his schoolmates continued. Oh no... guys, just cut it out... He prayed inwardly, wishing desperately they wouldn't get in trouble on his behalf.

A weathered teacher, who had dealt with many years of students, Bardane was not in the least plussed by the student's outrage. The worst response from a class he had ever incured was a particularily uppity Sanguine boy who had actually attacked him a few years back. Sadly, the boy had died. And to that, although there had been an inquiry, Bardane had not been punished. The verdict had been that the boy had a latent violence that could pose further problems. It was none of Bardane's concern as to whether the students liked him. It was not a point of interest or importance what they thought of him, so long as they behaved. He coldy regarded the class, carefully deciding which snarky and self-important remark he would rebuke. Finally he addressed the class as a whole. "It would do you well to take a lesson the easy way. If you think my methods strict, or my punishment harsh, I take it none of you have attended Bellona's class yet." A small smirk flickered across his lips as he pictured what Bellona would say later when he related this anecdote to her. "It seems that some of you are under the impression that you might be able to live your entire existence avoiding pain or discomfiture. I do not see it as my place to break such a precious and naive preconception as this, but I assure you, there is not a single Empyrean in this city above Stage One that has not encountered danger or pain of some variety. You need to grow strong. You need to function in this society by the rules that time has proven to be essential. Actions such as those of Antigone will not benefit this city. She will never be passed to Transcend without full credits. While you may be outraged at the way of things, they are not acted lightly. The behavious of Gregor, or any other Three are not of my concern as a teacher, only as a Chorus. Gregor has been reprimanded as is just. It is not permitted to disclose the nature of his punishment, but I assure you, it was equal to his crime." Bardane let his glance linger meaningfully on Aysel. "Attend to your studies, learn, become the best you can be, and you will be exalted. But trying to make a point of directing angers at me or your other professors for their methods of teaching is a waste of your energies. All of the professors have been specifically chosen, and all of us have taught for many years. Number 5. No Empyrean below Stage 1 may leave the White District, without the express permission of the Metatrons to allow exit with a Professor escort." Bardane continued seemlessly with the next rule, making sure to keep on a punctual schedule.

Aysel blinked slowly at Bardane's mini-lecture. Part of her cried out a bit at his mention of Gregor...what had been done to him? Aysel was not angry at the one who had harmed her any longer, now that she could see well through his eyes. What had befallen him? Another part of her yet rebelled at the professor's reprimanding of what seemed to be her, personally, and her cheeks burned. "I direct not my anger at you, professor..." she murmured to herself, barely audibly. "Only judgement...judgement and the hope of understanding."

Antigone doubted it would be worth her breath to continue. Pain was a part of everyones life... Of course it was! She wasn't a ******** simpleton, for the love of any higher beings. Pain wasn't meant to be a teacher. Pain wasn't meant to be handed out by those who were meant to educate and protect. It just wasn't. It wasn't right that someone justify their actions because it would happen anyway. Death would happen anyway. And yet she couldn't see dealing herself a deathblow. She let her golden eyes rest upon the form of Bardane for a moment. "Then so be it," she murmured softly, and exited the classroom.

At least Gregor had gotten what he deserved. Kallisto watched the professor, somewhat amused by his response. She continued to watch, a smirk curling the edges of her mouth, as he continued on. As far as she could tell the only thing this man seemed to be concerned about was being timely.

Bardane, she decided, was cold and unfeeling, not the worth the time to care about. If he wanted to act as though they didn't matter, then so would she. After all, treat others as you want to be treated, right?

Noticing Grave's distress, she looked over at him, concerned, "Are you okay?" She wondered why he was crying.

"Anti," breathed Ubel, feeling a great pain as she walked from the classroom, knowing that she had just brought a great trouble down on herself. "Please... please, come back..." He stroked at Torrid's hair, closing his eyes tightly and wishing that class hadn't taken such a terrible turn as this... His anger burned in him, writhing in his chest, but he refused to speak up again, not wanting to waste his words on this Empyrean.

Bardane overheard Aysel's comment and graced her with a rare smile. "Understanding is gravely important. If you have any further queries, feel free to voice them after class. Now then..." he glanced at a beautifully ornate hourglass on his desk and tsked. "We're behind. Number 6. No Empyrean below Stage 2 may leave the Coloured Districts." Bardane tapped his wand against the wall and the shimmering letters joined the ranks of the other 5 rules already floating timidly against the wall.

Grave sat hunched in his seat, weakly copying out the Laws. Although his script was clear and his notes concise, Grave wasn't paying attention to what he was copying out. He carefully avoided the appology that interrupted the centre of his page, and continued his lines out on the far side of the scrawled words. He heard Kallisto murmure to hima nd looked up startled and dismayed to find that he was still in the classroom. He nodded, wiping at the tears on his cheeks with a sleeve. "Just a little lost in my thoughts." Grave murmured back, darting a fearful glance at the Professor, afraid to be reprimanded again for talking.

Ubel carefully took out his notebook and whatnot again, setting them down so he could go about writing the notes he needed, shakily writing out the laws, mumbling for Torrid to not write, so he didn't hurt his hands any further, that he would make him a copy later. He glared at Bardane each time he looked up, refusing to speak to him at all now, merely writing what he needed to.

Aysel's eyes widened in dismay and alarm as Antigone left the classroom. What was she doing!? She actually got to her feet and took a few steps toward the door, willing with all her might for her to come back. She didn't want to anger this professor any further...as a matter of fact, she was rather intrigued by him, even though she strongly disapproved of his methods of punishment. But...oh, Anti! Biting her lip in indecision and unhappiness, she whined softly. She wished she had the bravery to go after her, to convince her to come back...but even leaving the room might get her in trouble, and she didn't want that.
