Houri would try two more times but both times the energy she managed to manifest was still just Normal energy, cloaking her fur in it like she would when using Tackle. It was clear to Sub she was having difficulty manifesting the Bug energy needed for a Pin Missile and so he brought out the one Pokemon of his that could help with that; Legrand the Drapion.

"Pion!" Cried the large purple scorpion as it appeared from its ball, the little Galarian Zigzagoon becoming slightly intimidated by the big bug and thus hid behind her trainer's leg. Sub would reassure her that it was okay, that Legrand was one of his Pokemon and thus one of her teammates and was friendly. He did have to admit to himself though that it had been awhile since he used Legrand and so was a bit ashamed to call him a 'teammate' when he had been benched for so long.

"Legrand, this is Houri, she is one of our recent additions and she is having trouble learning Pin Missile. I want you to not only show her how you use Pin Missile but maybe explain to her how to manifest the proper energy to use the move." He explained to the Bug and while it didn't understand his words it did understand the intent and what Sub wanted and with a confident stride it walked up to the edge of the virtual clifftop and aimed its tail at the targets, signalling to Sub it was in agreement with him. "Good, now then watch this Houri...Legrand, use Pin Missile!" Sub called out.

With a cry Legrand would launch one pin from its tail at each of the five targets, the pins themselves small pieces of his carapace infused with Bug energy. Each pin would strike the targets dead center and shatter them one after the other. Houri watched in awe as her comrade effortless used Pin Missile and destroyed all the targets the first time. He made it look so easy! Plus was that the Bug energy she felt? What she needed to create to use Pin Missile? That was a very help example.

"Drapion drap drap!" The scorpion called out to Houri as he looked over his shoulder. The Galarian Zigzagoon would jump as it appeared Legrand called her over, Sub giving her a nod of approval when he too realized what Legrand wanted. With a gulp Houri would slowly walk up to the waiting Drapion. Once she arrived Legrand would begin to discuss things further with her, the two having a minutes long conversation in Pokespeak before anything happened, Sub standing there wondering to himself what they could be talking about.

He'd soon figure out what was going on as Legrand began to glow with pale green Bug energy, the Drapion teaching Houri how to manifest the needed energy before moving onto actually learning Pin Missile. Sub would just stay back and let them do their thing, watching as Houri concentrated really hard to pull the energy out, only for once again for her fur to be cloaked in the Normal energy of a Tackle attack, much to her disappointment. From what Sub could see Legrand reassured her it was okay and once again showed her how to do it. This was nice to see but it looked like learning Pin Missile was going to take longer than expected.

The two Pokemon would spend a fair amount of time getting down how to manifest Bug energy but by the time they were done Houri was able to freely pull out the green colored energy and cloak her fur in it, the Galarian Zigzagoon realizing it was far easier to do than she had previously been making it. With that step out of the way the next step was to concentrate it into her individual hairs and then send them flying at a target.

At this point Drapion had stood back and Sub created a single target with the room's controls, both trainer and Pokemon then waiting to see what Houri could do. The Zigzagoon would summon forth the Bug energy, concentrate it into her back fur, and condense it down into a small patch of fur, not quit down to individual strands of hair though. She would then attempt to launch the fur and to their surprise did get it off her back...though with only enough force to create a 'poof' of loose fur and not enough to send a 'pin' flying. Legrand would speak up with some words of advice and Houri would try again.

After several more tries Houri managed to concentrate the Bug energy down to the hairs, the glowing of the Bug energy far less spread out but highly condensed. With that done she would attempt to launch one of the five hairs she concentrated the energy into but again she just couldn't get enough force behind the attack to send it flying, the 'pin' blowing away harmlessly. At this point Sub stepped up as he thought of an idea. "Get a running start." He told the Zigzagoon, both her and Legrand looking at her confused. "Try to do something similar to Tackle, concentrate the energy as you run then when you're ready to launch stop and send that momentum into your hairs and launch them. Can't hurt to try, right?"

Figuring it wouldn't hurt Houri took walked far away from the clifftop and once there was enough space she would begin to run towards the edge at full speed, summoning forth a bunch of energy to surround her body like Tackle, ensuring it was Bug energy, then concentrated it into her back and finally into five individual hairs. Once she got close to the edge she stopped suddenly, arched her back and...launched a single Pin Missile! The Bug energy empowered hair missed the target but it was sent flying with enough force to actually hurt something had it hit! Both Sub and Legrand jumped in surprise and cheered for Houri, the Zigzagoon immediately beginning to run around in circles, happy and pleased with herself.

"Good job Houri! Now don't stop there! Let's try that again and see if we can't work on that aim, you're doing so good!" He praised the girl, not wanting her to settle for this just yet. With a nod the Pokemon would walk away from the edge and begin again. She was going to hit that target.

An hour later Houri was launching Pin Missiles with ease, the length she had to run getting shorter and shorter each time. She had also managed to hit the targets several times, once even hitting four in one attack but never could get that fifth one out. Sub was so surprised by Houri's rapid progress in learning Pin Missile and it was all thanks to Legrand's advice and tutelage, Sub complimenting his Drapion at one time, the bashful scorpion just shying away. Sub would then turn back to Houri who looked to be getting exhausted but really wanted to hit all five targets in one go, preferably without having to get a running start but that didn't look like it would happen yet.

"It's okay, Houri, you've made a ton of progress, we can take a break now." He tried to tell the Pokemon but she wouldn't give up, instead she walked back again, gained her space and ran for the edge and the targets, launching another four strike Pin Missile and hitting four out of the five targets, getting frustrated with herself that she couldn't get that fifth one out. "Houri, take a break. Here, I got a Poffin for you." Sub said, taking out a Poffin from his backpack and holding it up for her to see, however she ignored him and went back to practicing Pin Missile. Sub sighed and simply presented the Poffin to Legrand, the Drapion greedily eating it. "...hungry?" Sub said, shaking his head before sitting down on the ground.

About a half an hour passed and both Sub and Legrand fell asleep, the scorpion curled up on the ground and Sub laying up against the Drapion. While they napped Houri kept practicing, over and over and failing to get that fifth needle out each time. Like before she got a running start and stopped briefly at the edge only to trip, fail her Pin Missile this time and go tumbling over the edge of the cliff...except this was still just a room and much to the Galarian Zigzagoon's delight she was still on solid ground, it only looked like she was floating in midair.

Once the adrenaline of almost dying left her the Pokemon broke down and sobbed to itself, frustrated that it couldn't get that fifth attack off. After all it had been through, being Shadowfied, getting Purified, training to use its moves, and every time something gets in her way. Every time she has to push herself more and more, the tasks getting harder and harder. If only she was bigger, stronger, had more strength to draw upon. If only she was...evolved.

A bright white like would engulf Houri...

Fifteen minutes later Sub and Legrand would wake up to the sound of a Pokemon barking, Sub opening his eyes to see a black and white Linoone running around in circles excitedly, barking all the while. For a split second Sub looked around for Houri only to quickly realize that the strange looking Linoone was Houri, that she had evolved. "Houri!? You evolved?" Sub asked in disbelief. The Galarian Linoone would stop its celebrating and nodded excitedly before turning to the targets, gave off a confident growl, and without the need of a running start launched off a Pin Missile from her back and struck each of the five targets, one after the other, in a display of a full powered Pin Missile.

"And you master Pin Missile! You did! I'm so proud of her, Houri!" Sub said, celebrating with the Pokemon as he ran over, picking her up, and holding her in a hug, Legrand scuttling over to join them in celebration. It was at times like this that Sub really enjoyed being a Pokemon trainer.

Over the course of one year, Deo and his machop would be practing and slowly curing him of his shadow. The bonding between them would be enough to try to, if not, successfully cause the machop to remove his hatred and shadow.
As it was not an adventure for both, without some hiccups and some trials and tribulations. Hopefully Deo would not have a shadow machop for a while. (this might not age well)

Over the course of months, Deo suffered from the Machop several injuries. A broken arm and a broken nose Both suffered as the Machop threw him into the wall and caused the machop to be held down and Doc Owl having a not so nice day fixing and setting back Deos arm. Not just physical injuries either. He mentally suffered. Often he would be wondering why and what could make a pokemon turn against his master. This would trouble him visibly read up on what the shadow virus does to pokemon.

While Deo suffered, he also learned. What was the shadow virus, and how it affected pokemon. Reading up on it he learned of its contagious style on how pokemon can get it just from an attack. He also learned medicines that can cure a shadow virus. After talking to Sub and Doc Owl, he got his hands on a vaccine and will use it later. As for right now, he was happy that his Machop was back in his hands, safe and sound.

Brian walked into the Super Training Room with a single Pokeball in hand. Tuning the settings to a training room with targets, both moving and stationary, he tossed the ball into the air, releasing Grace, his shiny Ralts. She'd responded a bit to the time he'd spent with her one-on-one, but he knew it was time to fully purify her. A bit of her personality was starting to show through the closer she came to being purified. The Psychic/Fairy-type turned to look at him, the dead look in her eyes evidence that she was still affected by the Shadow Virus.

"Alright, Grace, let's do a bit of training, OK?" he said. She gave no indication that she understood, but when he pointed to one of the stationary targets and gave an order, she fired off a Magical Leaf, hitting it squarely in the center. He gave a nod before indicating another target, and she repeated the action. When she missed her target at one point, he could see her start to get a little irritated, but he stamped that out. "Easy, Grace, it happens," he said. "Just brush it off and keep going." The shiny Ralts tried to ignore him, but he gained her attention again by pointing to a moving target. "I want ye to try something a little different," he said. "Try to hit one of the moving targets with Dazzling Gleam."

Once again, Grace fired off the attack, and when it hit, he could see something changing with her. While the look in her eyes was still mostly dead, there was a spark of something else there, something almost... familiar. It was like she was responding to positive reinforcement. Hmm, he could work with that. "Again!" he said, giving a grin when she hit a second moving target. The next one was missed, but he reassured her that she was doing just fine. For some reason, this seemed to keep her emotions from running out of control, like they had in the past. Every accurate hit, every hit and every reassurance that she was doing just fine, all of it brought just a little more light to her eyes. He was happy to see that his positive reassurance and attention seemed to be bringing her closer and closer to purification.

They kept up the training for a couple of hours before Brian called a halt. Hitting a button, he turned the environment from a training area to a grassy field where they could relax. Taking a seat on the grass, he relaxed, motioning to the Ralts. She didn't move for a long time, and Brian closed his eyes as he laid back, placing his cap over his eyes and his hands behind his head as he pretended to take a nap. He laid there for about half an hour when he felt a light weight on his chest, and he carefully moved his right arm to lift the brim of his cap. He couldn't help smiling when he saw Grace lying there, apparently having decided that he was safe enough to let her guard down around. The sound of her breathing indicated that she was asleep, and he stroked her hair a few times before closing his eyes, humming softly as he actually managed to fall asleep.

Waking up an hour later, he lifted his cap and saw Grace sitting up on his chest, staring at him. The look in her orange eyes was far different from what it had been two hours before, when they'd first started training. Instead of a look devoid of all emotion, he could see intelligence, curiosity, and a few other emotions there. If he had to guess, he was willing to say that spending that time with Grace had gotten her to the point she was ready to be purified. Picking Grace up in his arms, he gingerly sat up, watching how she reacted to being touched. She didn't seem to mind, and he carefully got up, walking to the door and activating the button that would return the room to its inactive state. "Let's go get ye purified, shall we?" he asked, glancing down at the small Pokemon in his arms. For the first time since he'd snagged her, he could see a tiny smile on the Ralts' face, and he knew things would be alright from here on out.

In the time after the trip in Kitakami and everyone got settled back into the headquarters, for better for worse, structure changes started to go about to make this a functioning headquarters and if nothing else to show that Team Snagem wasn’t just a bunch of rag tag loose cannons that cause more damage than it does good. One of the things that got implemented in the headquarters was Sub ended up assigning people to start dealing with Shadow Pokémon, effectively to track, hunt, and contain to prevent further pandemics. Including but not limited to breaking up Shadow Pokémon illicit battling rings that started to crop up in light of it, throwing other trainers, let alone the trainers instigating it, at risk. Members would rotate out to take point in the matter, following up on leads, reports, and so ons and if they come back with Shadow Pokémon, be left responsible for trying to getting them purified. Effectively a on-call Snagem, for lack of a better term. It wasn’t perfect mind. At times it felt like for every one Shadow Pokémon that gets taken out of the mix, two more crops up, either because of the Shadow Pokémon they captured or a completely unrelated issue. Tracing sources and such becomes borderline impossible due to just how long the Shadow Virus concocted by Ein has been in circulation and in spite efforts between regions raising awareness and trying to combat the virus in any way they could, the ‘blaze’ that Ein started didn’t seem to have any end to it. Ein’s final solution, as it were.

Freth would be one of those Snagems that was on-call. And she had an idea like most Snagems would at this point. Since there was nothing doing other than focusing on the Shadow Pokémon, why not try to take care of the Shadow Pokémon that was already had. In Freth’s particular case, she had a Grovile that she captured from a trainer in Hoenn, in a bunch of utility tunnels underneath Mauville City. Freth figured a grass type would probably do her party some justice. While she would have still preferred ice types herself, she long since came to adopting a similar mentality to her significant other. So as long as she was in Snagem, she was going to need all the help she could get. And if she wanted to, she could teach ice attacks if the Pokémon was capable of it. Though, considering her dabbling in the ways of Psychic typing, she’s starting to warm up more to that all the more lately. She wasn’t too sure what to think about that, actually.

Training the Grovile to break it out of its shadowfied condition was pretty much to be expected. That was to say, a complete pain in the hide. Freth at first would try to do a similar regimen to when she purified the Hakamo-o; just pure pedal to the metal, hard, fast, frantic grind to work the virus out of the Grovile’s system. Freth quickly realized that it was not going to work out all that hot, however, when unlike Hakamo-o, Grovvile didn’t not have that kind of endurance in spite of the Shadow virus making it think otherwise. Never mind Hyper Mode wasn’t making things any easier. Eris, watching from the depths of Freth’s inner palace, started to realize that apparently that in spite of how Shadow Pokémon are, still are needing to be tended to all differently.

Freth would then try to take a gentler approach with the Grovile, just gradually get tougher to keep the Grovile ‘interested’ in its own twisted way. However, Hyper Mode would throw a wrench into the works. It left Freth to wonder just if triggering Hyper Mode wasn’t just something random. Granted, it seemed to happen more when Shadow attacks get used more often than not, even though she was trying to feed into that Shadow Pokémon nature to counter-intuitively work the virus out of the Pokémon, but it then left her to wonder if there was more to it than that. For all the information they had about Shadow Pokémon, from its history, to what goes on with it now, it made it all around troublesome to deal with. Once again, Ein’s final solution. It wasn’t meant to be easy to overcome. In fact, it should have been effectively impossible between a Shadow Pokémon’s imbued nature and how such a thing can become wide spread. It was to inflict hopelessness.

For the Grovile, it took more than a single trip to actually try to get this Grovile out of its condition in recent history. Though, then again, it wasn’t like she actually lead up with say a trip to a random Safari to allow it to fight random Pokémon that might come about. Never mind the fact that she still had other Shadow Pokémon to contend with as they started to crop up here and there in the regions. And oddly some of those Pokémon she would eventually end up taking in to purify wouldn’t be as stubborn to purify as this Grovile. All the same, she was using the resources she had on hand. And as she continued on through her training regimen in the training room, Hyper Mode started to rear its proverbial ugly head more often. It was a sign that purification was starting to be seen over the horizon. Though that also meant more of an issue keeping it under control. Freth ended up having to defend herself more than once with her own telekinetic power; at one point actually Freezing Glare attacked Grovile to hold it still. Though at the time, she only managed to hold it in place for all of about five seconds. Her psychic power, in spite of her training, still immature for the time being, could only resist the likes of a Shadow Pokémon for so long.

Once Freth started to realize things were at its worst with Hyper Mode, Freth decided to once again kick the regimen into high gear again. She wanted to give Grovile that push over the edge, practically break the grass type with the various regimens the training room had to offer. Some of the hardest stuff, but more so just so that she wasn’t taking a Shadow attack herself. She needed to push Grovile as hard as she could in one final hurrah to finally get it towards purification. She didn’t like the fact that this was borderline torture to the Pokémon, rather it or anyone else thought so or not, as she tried to get the Grovile to work the virus out of its system, but unfortunately the virus had to go. Make that final solution irrelevant.

After that final training session, and finally off call, she would go on to get the Grovile for examination to check on if she was right about it being ready for purification. To her relief, Grovile was. The vaccination would be administered and now it was time to wait. It was about a day or so before the vaccination managed to work its magic and Grovile was finally back to normal, no longer afflicted by the blight that Ein had inflicted on it and may others like it. Groggy from being finally free from the grip of the Shadow virus, Freth spent time with the Grovile, trying to reassure the now purified Pokémon that the nightmare was finally over. She would take care of this grass type from here on, asking for his help in trying to get after others that had the Shadow affliction like it did. No Pokémon deserved to be like this.

They looked like massive, metal goalie pads. Had someone gone to Unova to outfit a Steel-type hockey team and come back to Snagem? Monique thought to herself the first time she put them on.

After the events of Kitakami, Snagem had gotten busier and way more organized. It was a cue that it was time to train some of these Pokémon she had picked up of late. She started with the one she'd traded for: Poloka, formerly Sub's Croagunk, now hers.

And that's how a Zoroark hybrid found herself wearing steel padding in an attempt to cushion her from the Fighting-type blows and especially any potential poison.

She stood there, peering at Poloka behind a mask, crouched in a butterfly pose. She'd seen videos of hockey players from Unova and Galar before thanks to a couple of exchange students whose primary disappointment in Paldea was that it had no hockey scene. Poloka, for her part, seemed a little confused.

"Hit me!" She banged her leg pads with an arm pad, a metal clangor ringing out.

"Cro!" The Croagunk seemed to finally figure it out. Fighting types... Given the proper motivation, it responded to the challenge. It came at Monique, making a Low Kick into the pad. It didn't seem to dent it, which made the Croagunk a bit discouraged.

"You gotta hit a little harder, froggy!"

Monique was relieved to see that Poloka had finally listened. Fighting-types, being very different to her and her weakness, took a bit of time to get used to.

But Monique had been around ChiChi at the dance studio back in Paldea. It had been tremendously helpful, given everything. Fighting-types liked to get themselves worked up. They needed motivation. They fed off it. It generated a certain type of chi that they craved. Put a few of them in a room and it was bound to happen at some point if they weren't rivalrous. If it was strong enough, even Pokémon of other types could pick up on it and join in.

"Hey! Poloka! Silly frog. You barely hit me!" Monique called out, her voice comparatively unrestrained, a bit of its natural accent showing through. "Come on now!" She pounded the heavy metal pads against each other, showing Poloka that the pad had barely been hit.

Poloka seemed to register the insult correctly. She jumped back and ran from a distance toward Monique, trying to build enough momentum to amplify her Low Kick.

Boom!

This time, the Croagunk made more of a connection, pushing Monique back and leaving a distinct dent in the lower left shin pad. The sheriff looked down at the pad, her body strained by the weight of all the "goalie equipment", and saw the damage, her gaze meeting Poloka's eyes approvingly. "That's it!" she called out to the Toxic Mouth Pokémon.

"Gunk guuuunk!" it called back. So that's how this works, Monique thought.

Monique looked at Poloka. Her Low Kick had improved. Now it was time to induce a bit of quickness. She knew Sucker Punch, but if she made any attempt to attack, would Sucker Punch connect fast enough?

She shed the goalie pads, heavy instruments that her body was not designed for or accustomed to, and put on lighter pads that would be similar to someone a boxer would wear in training. They even covered most of her face. I am so limber now compared to those steel pads, Monique thought.

"Alright, now I'm gonna try and attack you but I want you to do your thing. Sucker Punch me before I even go at you, okay?"

Poloka was silent. Was she trying to process the instructions? For a moment, Monique waited. She hoped that she would. She decided to try a right hook, but just as her arm nearly connected, Poloka swiftly moved in and hit from the left side. The blow, imbued with Dark-type chi and cushioned by her pads, didn't hurt much, but it did startle.

The sheriff was hoping for a bit more agile reaction. "Come on, Poloka."

"Cro cro?" It seemed to whine a bit.

"I know you can move faster. What if you were fighting a Shadow Pokémon?"

She could sense the Dark-type chi as it formed, trace it on its path. "Faster!" She tried different "moves": leg kicks (almost as if she were holding a pole), jabs, lunges. Slowly, Poloka started getting at it. The reaction time decreased, Monique finding she was getting hit earlier and earlier in the process.

"Think of me like I'm the biggest baddie you've ever seen! Not that I ain't a baddie already..." She flashed a smile. "Work it, boo!"

Monique kicked out her right leg. It wasn't even fully extended when she felt Poloka strike her other leg, a weird mix of Sucker Punch and Low Kick, almost knocking her to the floor.

"Whoa! You're working it!"

((For free Purification during time skip))

“Alright, Carnation, let’s do this! You’ve almost got the virus under control.” Wren called out to his Sunkern. The tiny Grass-type hopped from side to side, shaking her leaves aggressively at the training dummy before her. Wren had found she wasn’t strong enough to battle another Pokemon but her aggression seemed to be higher than the average Pokemon of her level of power so she was entirely willing to just wail on training dummies for as long as he would allow her. He’d taken a break from working on Lentimas Town’s fungal purification to come back for a bit and train up some of his weaker Pokemon while things were calming down. They’d been in the STR for three days in a row now with Carnation spending several hours a day absolutely wailing on training dummies with her various Seed attacks, mainly, but throwing in occasional Tackle and Double Edge attacks. And the extremely rare Shadow move Wren was uncomfortable with every time he saw it happen.

“Alright, Carnation, use Bullet Seed!” He called to the Sunkern. She quickly hopped around the training dummy, spitting seeds like a machine gun at it in short bursts after each hop.

“And now Seed Bomb!” Hopping into the air, Carnation formed a large ball of Grass energy above her head and threw it down at the training dummy. The force of the attack’s explosion launched her higher and further back, causing her to land flat on her face.

“Sun…KERN!” She screamed as she hopped back up, unleashing a Shadow Blitz upon the training dummy. A shadowy aura enveloped her as she rapidly hopped forward, slamming her whole body into the dummy and leaving a sickening, twisted “burn” on the dummy where the Shadow Energy burned at it on contact.

“Not a fan of that… That energy still feels wrong… And the rage is just unsettling for such a small and normally delightful creature.” Wren commented to himself.

After that attack, however, something seemed different. Carnation seemed calmer, sort of. She was still aggressive but not actively trying to destroy him or the dummy. Just growling, sort of.

“Is that it?!” He asked GRAY, who he’d asked to monitor her Shadow energy levels and help him track when she’d finally achieved homeostasis.

”It looks like it. You should be able to give her the Shadow Vaccine at this point and it should fully purge the virus within a few hours at most. In most cases it’s almost instantaneous, however.” GRAY responded.

Wren pulled the vial of vaccine from his pocket and loaded it into the vaccination gun he’d borrowed from the Med Bay for this each of the last three days, just in case that was the day it happened. Approaching carefully, he held out a hand, finding that Carnation didn’t immediately attempt to tackle it as she had done since he’d caught her, which what why it had taken so long to purify her in the first place. “Hold still and we’ll get rid of this nasty bug you’ve had for so long.” He assured the Seed Pokemon. Quickly injecting the vaccine, he stepped back as Carnation thrashed for a few seconds afterward.

THAT HURT! She thrashed for a bit, aggressively shaking her leaves and throwing Razor Leaves into the air a few times before suddenly stopping, blinking and then staring up at Wren.

“Feel like yourself again?” He asked her quietly.

“Sun sun.” She agreed, nodding and smiling at him for the first time.

“Well… I have a surprise for you if you want it?” He told her, reaching into his other pocket and pulling out a Sun Stone. “How would you like to evolve?” He asked, holding the Stone out toward her. “The choice is yours after fighting the virus for so long, of course. I won’t blame you if you want to spend some more time as you are first.”

Carnation didn’t hesitate to tackle Wren’s hand, though it wasn’t with the aggression she’d done so with before. This time it seemed to be excitement. As a bright light enveloped her, she quickly more than doubled in height, sprouting a body complete with legs and two beautiful leaves for arms. The Seed Pokemon bloomed into her as-currently-known, final stage and the Sun Pokemon that stood in her place moments later, waved her arms and cheered happily as she danced in place. “Sun sunflora! Flora flora! Sunflora!”

“I’m so happy for you!” Wren assured the sunflower Pokemon, picking her up and setting her on his shoulders as they headed out of the super training room. On their way out, they passed Clare on their way in. “Best of luck if you’re working on purifying a Pokemon. I’m learning it’s a challenge, myself.” He told them sincerely.

((Posting for points on this one))

Clare waved politely to Wren as they entered the training room. “Yeah, this is my first time trying to focus on purifying one… “ They admitted as Wren carried his newly evolved Sunflora out of the room Taking up a spot in the center of the room, Clare thought for a moment about what would be best for a trainin session for Eidolon, their Pincurchin. The Electric-type had shown signs of infection, at last, a few months ago but Clare had been so busy with classes in the time since, they hadn’t had the chance to really focus on trying to purify him.

“I think… GRAY, can you get us a beachside setting?” They asked of the team’s AI. “And I’ve heard you can make training partners, too. Do you think you can get us a Galarian Pokemon native to Pincurchin’s habitat? Thank you!”

GRAY didn’t verbally respond but the STR’s interior flickered a bit as the holographic projectors that created it’s scenery changed things up. GRAY had decided, apparently, that because of the request to generate a Galarian training partner, to use a scene from Galar’s Route 9. The snowy beachside scenery flickered to life just as a holographic Clobbopus crawled out of the water and gave a funny look to Clare.

Releasing Eidolon from his ball, the hybrid could feel the current from his Electric Surge as it activated, triggering an Electric Terrain upon entering the battlefield. Upon landing, the Pincurchin gurgled out a bubbling growl at the Tantrum Pokemon, his eyes narrowing as his rage boiled just below the surface. “Alright, Eidolon, let’s see if we can’t get this virus under control. Use Spark!”

Eidolon Charged up electric energy for the moment, not quite ready to unleash hell, gurgling another bubbling growl as Clobbopus circled him. The cephalopod rushed toward Eidolon, six tiny tentacles working overtime to make the small octopus move quickly, one of its tentacles beginning to glow with Fighting energy as it prepared to strike with a Rock Smash. Eidolon tanked the hit, turning his body in just such a way to use the incoming attack for a bit of Acupressure. As Clobbopus struck, it hit a pressure point that released a surge of energy and a rush of hormones that pumped up Eidolon’s Special Defense. Not really helpful here, unfortunately.

“Eidolon, I said use Spark!” Clare ordered once again, being firmer with their directions for the Electric type now.

Eidolon growled yet again but his body sparked before he… didn’t move?

Clobbopus backed up slightly, watching the Pincurchin spark in place for a moment. The moment it stopped, Clobbopus waved one of its tentacles at the Pincurchin, daring him to fight it directly. Eidolon fell for the taunt, his rage mounting.

“Be careful, Eidolon! Wait for it to come at you again and use Zing Zap!” Clare directed. Clobbopus was proving to be an aggressive training partner so they were sure it wouldn’t give Eidolon long before trying to strike again. They’d be proven right only a few moments later as Clobbopus ran at the Pincurchin once again, tentacles blazing with Fighitng energy. This time, however, the Sea Urchin Pokemon was ready. His spikes sparked violently as he tilted forward, causing Clobbopus to quickly dash around him and try striking with another Rock Smash from his other side.

Clobbopus didn’t account for Eidolon’s reaction speed, however, as the Electric -type spun around, spikes still sparking, and slammed them into the cephalopod’s chest. As the spikes made contact, an electric current was unleashed that shot straight through the Pokemon. It would travel only a short distance before it reversed course and returned to crash into Eidolon again, passing right through Clobbopus a second time. Clobbopus stumbled backward, clenching at its chest and gasping, clearly pained by that attack .

“It flinched! Let’s get another attack in!” Clare called to their partner, cheering for him. Use Poison Jab this time!” The Pincurchin’s spikes began to glow a sickening purple as they were infused with it’s natural toxins before Eidolon hopped toward Clobbopus, jabbing it in the torso once more.

Clobbopus staggered backward again as the spikes made contact. The cephalopod’s face showed it wasn’t faring well after that, looking like it might be sick. “I think it’s poisoned!” Clare announced.

Eidolon’s expression filled with a wicked mirth at that, its spikes glowing purple again. “No! Don’t use Poison Jab again! We’ve got a good chance to hit it with-” Clare was cut off as the purple glow from all of Eidolon’s spikes converged into its frontmost “horn” spike, shooting out in an electric spark-like jolt toward Clobbopus. The doubled-over octopus Pokemon failed to dodge the purple jolt and as it struck, the Pokemon reacted as if it had been electrified before falling flat on its back, twitching a bit. “Venoshock? When did you learn to use that?” Clare asked, recognizing that move from one of Ms. Dendra’s battle classes. The Pincurchin just foamed at the mouth a bit as he laughed at the Tantrum Pokemon’s suffering.

Clobbopus clambered back to its feet after a moment or two, Leering at Eidolon as it did. The Shadowfied Pincurchin felt little fear from the look but it’s defense was lowered slightly as it laughed in Clobbopus’ face.

“Don’t get cocky! Use Spark again!” Clare called out from behind Eidolon, watching how he battled. Clobbopus was hitting hard but Eidolon wasn’t giving in yet. That might not be a good thing, however. Clare had heard Shadow Pokemon would quite literally fight themselves to death if they were allowed to do so so they had to watch for signs of weakness and not let it go overboard.

Eidolon’s spikes sparked as he gathered up electrical energy and began to crawl, slowly, toward Clobbopus. The cephalopods’ tentacles glowed with energy once more but not Fighting energy this time. Rather, it was preparing something Normal-type, it looked like. The white glow in the Tantrum Pokemon’s “fists” wasn’t immediately apparent to Clare but as Eidolon got close enough to try tackling with his electrified body, Clobbopus unleashed its most Mega of Punches directly into the Pincurchin’s face. Clare didn’t know what to do but, apparently, Eidolon had an idea. The Pincurchin spit a Bubble Beam at the incoming fist and while it didn’t stop the attack, it did reduce Clobbopus’ speed a bit so the punch didn’t hurt quite as bad.

Eidolon tried to resist the force of the blow but, sadly, he was launched away by it, bouncing erratically across the beach scenery for several long seconds before coming to a stop looking rather dizzy but mostly looking angry. “Stay calm, Eidolon!” Clare urged, seeing the look on the Electric-type’s face.

Pin….cur…CHIN!” Eidolon screeched as Shadow energy flared around it, needles of the vile energy erupting from surfaces all over the room. The Shadow Rave barely missed skewering Clare in three different places but Clobbopus wasn’t so lucky. Despite its attempts to avoid the needles, the cephalopod was most assuredly made into a living takoyaki by the needles.

“Clobb….opus….” The Tantrum Pokemon groaned as the needles shrank away once again, pulling back out of its ravaged body as it was dropped back to the ground. “Clob… clobbopus.” Mercy. Please. The pain was too much at this point.

“I think we’re done, Eidolon. I know it’s a hologram but I can’t put it through any more punishment.” Clare announced, covering their mouth at the sound of Clobbopus’ begging.

Eidolon, however, didn’t seem to care, crawling closer to the barely conscious octopus brawler. “Eidolon, no.” Clare insisted, watching as the Pincurchin crawled closer, evil in its gaze. Eidolon, yes, the Pincurchin thought. Crawling up to Clobbopus, the Electric-type used his front most spike to lift Clobbpus’ head to look at him. “Pin… pincurchin. Pin pin cur.” With a quick move, the cephalopod’s head was released and the horn was jabbed into its throat, cutting off its airway and silencing its begging.

Clobbopus gasped with raspy breaths as it tried once more to beg for mercy. “Die in silence, weakling.” Had been Eidolon’s final words before attacking. Clare gasped as the Throat Chop was executed, grabbing for Eidolon’s ball and trying to recall him but fumbling and dropping it. As a result, the Pincurchin was able to deliver its final blow. Clare felt tears welling up in their eyes as Clobbopus slowly stopped gasping. And moving.

“Eidolon… How could you?!” They asked, recalling the Electric-type as it laughed over the body of its fallen foe.

Over the remainder of their time int he training room for the day, Clare decided to try bonding with Eidolon more. After that display of ruthlessness, they were afraid to let the Pokemon battle again if they couldn't purify the virus from it first. They'd been informed that something called "scents" were available in the Golden Sarcophagus that could combat the Shadow Virus in small increments by using them for aromatherapy or even as massage oils. So they were currently using a bottle to massage Eidolon, rubbing around his spikes and tryin to find those acupressure points he seemed to like striking whenever he used Acupressure in battle.

"Cuuuuuuuur!" The Pincurchin almost purred as they found one of them, kneading at the spot with their thumb as they did.

"You like that, huh?" They asked the Sea Urchin Pokemon as he sat in their lap, eyes drifting closed. Something about this scent was just...overwhelmingly calming in spite of the strange bloodthirsty rage within him.

It took a little while to get through the full bottle despite how small it was(Pincurchin are tiny, ok?) but by the time Clare was done, they felt perhaps they could forgive Eidolon for how he had acted toward the Clobbopus hologram. It wasn't the Pincurchin's fault he was being overwhelmingly cruel at the moment, after all. This was the effect of the Shadow Virus, wasn't it? Shttering off a Pokemon's heart and blocking them from feeling positive emotions? Standing up and looking down at the little Electric-type, they nodded to him. "Let's just try using some attacks without a target for a bit this time. Maybe these Scents will help keep the virus from getting the better of you now?" They suggested, holding up the other three bottles they'd gone out to pick up after that battle had concluded in such a grisley manner.

"Why don't you try using Discharge?" They asked the Sea Urchin Pokemon.

Eidolon nodded, feeling rather calm for the moment, and crawled a bit away from Clare before his spikes began to spark for a moment before he released a wild blast of electrical energy that lashed out in all directions.
