Sinclair had a pretty good idea who that was for. The Voice sounded different now, softer, and though part of him was admittedly slightly -- just slightly -- tempted by its promises... a world that acknowledged him, revered him... he felt no pity when he remembered everything else it had put him through. Snorting, he fluttered his eyelashes at Zephyros. My hero.

Good lord, just how many stairs did this place have? Ofelia was not really surprised to see even more stairs ahead and she just sighed and marched on.

Ofelia thought she heard something but was likely mistaken. She needed to keep walking since there was stuff that needed to be done.

It was easy to lose her voice, really.
She didn't notice it slipping away until she opened her mouth to attempt to speak. Sure, she couldn't hear in the first place, but now she couldn't feel the vibrations of her vocal cords as she spoke, proving that her voice was indeed taken away by ... well, The Voice.
Funny.
Was this how it got the ability to talk?
No matter, really. Nkosazana had to press on. She couldn't think of the deep loneliness she felt at having no one to climb this Tower with. Maybe she would find Davyne, or Sinclair, or even David if she kept going. She had to find something. Friendship, even if it was with fellow people who were supposedly fake...

The voice was speaking again, talking about something. It told her how she was nothing, just a fragment that was meant to be thrown away. Ofelia might have taken offense at that if she stopped to listen but rather she kept moving.
Who cared if the castle fell and she vanished? At least for the time being she was herself and that was all that mattered. She was a citizen of Green, even if they turned against her.
Or turned her away when she needed to be there to defend her King. Or was that all in her mind as she now was nothing but a figment of change?

As the stairs got on, her loneliness grew stronger.
Even when she tried to look at others, it felt like they were fading away. Why did they have to be so isolated? What was the purpose of any of this? Did The Voice take joy in tormenting them?
Probably.
Though she wasn't sure how this would convince her to stop climbing.
She was even less certain about how The Voice's attempts at convincing her to stop would make her stop. With her Kingdom, she would be lost? Her Kingdom was already lost. The Silver Kingdom was the first to die and the first to be brushed over before she found out that none of it ever had existed in the first place.
She snorted, a whuff of air coming out of her nose.
Save it for someone who cares, Voice.

Ofelia flew up several flights of stairs with a single bound, or maybe she was just running up them fast enough it made it look like she had jumped them all at once.
Passing one of the floors had the Voice enter her mind again, this time with a tone...that was strange. It sounded like it was trying to make her a deal and that was...ridiculous.

Ignoring The Voice, she continued onwards, attempting to ignore the shoving sense of isolation that she was beginning to feel. There was no one with her, only stairs. Lots and ... lots ... of stairs, that seemed to go on into infinity. She couldn't see where the end was, couldn't tell where the beginning was, couldn't make out the people on the floors or where they were all headed.
But she had no choice but to continue on. There was no other place for her to go, now. No other place for her to attempt to stop and go down. Once she entered, there was no turning back, and did it really matter?
No, she didn't need to turn back.
She was Nkosazana of the Silver Kingdom, a Fragment of someone from another world, and she would make it up these stairs, so she could show this stupid Voice who the boss was.

There that b*****d was. As her foot hit a step, the Voice rang through her thoughts again, and Nevena's nostrils flared. You may have the others fooled. She thought contemptuously, resisting the urge to punch the wall with rage. But I would choose my world any day over this one!
