You should pick a squad you want to join then make up some silly character is what you should do.
Then you should ask in the squads application thread and then when you get accepted you should erm... post your profile in the profiles section
Mmmhmmm I think that's what you do

*bows and looks around* Um, hi, I'm Satoshi Vi Britannia, but Satoshi for short and because it'd be rather silly to get called by my full username when Satoshi is much simpler. Nice to meet you all. I'm currently point by point going through the getting started phase of joining this guild now that I've been approved as a member. I hope to have a lot of fun amongst your ranks once I figure out which Squad I want to join...my character being pretty much already made aside from Zanpakuto. lol
Well, once again, thank you for accepting me into the guild and I hope to become an addition to your active ranks rather than a face that no one ever sees again after I post this.

The seats in Squad 8 are up for grabs at the moment and we have a ever present Captain who will listen to all your questions and answer back as fast as he can he's also rather well informed and will teach Kido along with his Luitenant
Oh and Thrombosis the 3rd seat is great because he helped me get my Shikai in less than a day
I haven't seen much of the rest of the squad

@TechaHolic: All the squads are equally great. Just pick one that you like, instead of over-thinking it. Base your choice on the kind of character you want to have. After being accepted, you can ask your Captain for help in how to get started. That's my advice to you.
Also, there's a whole sub-forum on this guild, with mentors available to help you in every issue you might have.
