Rotting Gnarl Digital Malevolence Rotting Gnarl The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and World Without End by Ken Follet are both win. 3nodding I read that a few months ago. I suprisingly enjoyed it, I wasn't expecting to. Now I'm waiting for the next one that comes out April 16th. I read it like a year ago, one of my favs. 3nodding Oooooh, I didn't know the new one was coming out... surprised Yeah, I'm glad I decided to read it a few months before the sequal came out, makes waiting a hell of a lot easier. Speaking of which I just finished a book, now I need a new one...

Get with the program, man, shop the intertubes. cool Or, ya know, there's always your friendly neighborhood library.

I like to read a few chapters before buying a book, I've made to many mistakes of just reading the back of a boook or something and buying it, only to find out I hate it. I'm pickier about books then I am about music, the worse part is, I don't even know what kinds of books I like. gonk

But yeah, more people should remember their local libraries. I'm annoyed at how libraries have been on the downslope over the past decade.
Also, on a somewhat related topic, does anyone else think the Kindle is the stupidest idea Amazon has ever had?

Also, on a somewhat related topic, does anyone else think the Kindle is the stupidest idea Amazon has ever had?I've kind of figured out I enjoy science fiction that goes less on the whole outerspace/fairies/really odd stuff and that goes more towards a story that could really happen but not quite. I also enjoy a good autobiography, or factual book about something that interests me. However, finding books in either of those is really hard for me. I don't know what this "kindle" is...

I'm very picky about the nature of my sci-fi as well. The "really odd stuff" you mentioned is something I enjoy, though--Douglas Adams' books are some of the funniest literature I've ever read.
Stupid idea.

Stupid idea.I bought the book Dune because I heard it was good, but I couldn't get into it. I read seven chapters then just gave up and bought a different book. Dune isn't even really that odd either, it was mostly the writers writing style I didn't like. That is stupid, reading on the computer gives me headaches. I sometimes get headaches from just reading stuff from Gaia or myspace.

Other titles have caught my eye and I kinda forgot about it. Maybe I'll do it over spring break. I also wanna read Blood Music by Greg Bear, but it seems to be a pretty hard-to-find title.
I hate it. I'm fairly certain that the Kindle is one of the horsemen of the digital distribution apocalypse.

Digital Malevolence I've never heard of Blood Music, I should check it out. Whos the other three? ninja It's a near-future sci-fi novel about about nanotechnology. Well, more specifically, nanotechnology gone horribly wrong.
Digital distribution of movies, digital distribution of games, and digital distribution of music (well, that's already here in force, I just mean the complete death of physical recorded media). The Kindle represents digital distribution of all print media, like books, but like also magazines and newspapers.

If you're into fantasy at all, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is a good, really dark series.
