Kinnara looked at himself in the mirror of the changing room before he stepped out. Kinnara didn't look like himself. He looked older and someone with a strong will to live. The kimono fit fine. Kinnara then stepped outside of the fitting room.
"Well .....umm.....what do you think?" he asked doing a bit of a turn to show the whole yukata he was wearing.

"Such a strong gentleman to lead a lady and her son through the dangerous streets!"
Bijin's mother chuckled a bit and nodded to him.
"You make a very handsome Japanese man, Kinnara-san."
"Hai hai Kin-sempai! You look great! It really matches your eyes and hair. But you can wear that when we visit the temples. Its very important to show respect when visiting big temples. And you can see ours! Tonight you should just wear your nice yukata for the festival. It's going to be so fun!."
"Hai hai Bijin, but you boys can't stay out long. We are leaving in the morning for one of the zodiac temples, the temple of the ox I blieve, and there is another temple where Bijin and I can search for his fable near by."

"Arigato," said Kinnara with a bow. He was trying to seem more Japanese.
Kinnara then looked to Bijin and spoke, "So where should we go? Back to the hotel and do some swimming or something else?" He heard that Bijin's mother didn't want them to stay out to late. It was already about 5 o'clock. Kinnara had the strange feeling that if Bijin were a girl that Bijin's mother would make them go out on lots of dates.
"Which temple is near by?" he asked tilting his head. He thought to himself, 'How many temples are there in Japan?'

"Maybe we should go back to the hotel and rest a bit. I'm a little tired from all that walking. And we are going to do a lot of walking tomorrow. The Night Festival won't start for another two hours so we have time."
Bijin smiled brightly as they headed back to the hotel. During the two hour wait, Bijin brushed out his hair and read a book in Japanese. Bijin's mother had gotten Kinnara a "Beginner's Japanese" book so he could at least know a few simple phrases. She even helped him pronouce things he didn't know. She also explained about all the temples of Japan. How some are simply free standing while others house monks who study martial arts or seek ultimate knowledge. Some are also repositories for anicent text.
Two hours later.
Bijin decided to actually wear normal looking clothes, or at least something that wasn't overly traditional. He wore his favorite skirt and tank top. His mother wore a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
The festival was brightly lit by paper lanterns. The smell of food surrounded them and other children laughed at the games.
"What would you like to do first, Kin-sempai?"

Kinnara wore the outfit that he had bought earlier at the Japanese store. IN his back jean pocket he had the translator book. Though he doubt it would help because learning a new language was heard. As he walked about he gingled a bit because of his accessories. Kinnara smelled the air at the festival. It smelt good. It smelled like fish and other things.
"I am not really sure what to do. Maybe we should play games?"

"Yeah, there are some carnival games we can play. Maybe we can win some prizes before the firewords start!"
Bijin went over to a ring toss and did his best but wasn't the best shot. He tried a few others without much success.
"Aww...ne, Kin-sempai, can you win something for me?"
He looked up at the feline with big brown eyes and wibbled a bit. He really wanted something. Bijin's mother smirked at the two as she watched. Kinnara was a very nice boy and seemed to be a good role model for Bijin. She was glad he had come with them.

Kinnara looked at the ring toss. He looked to see what he could get Bijin, though he wasn't sure if he should go for something big or something small. Then Kinnara smirked and got three rings for about 100 yen. Kinnara carefully aim toward a bottle with large plushie of a fox. He gracefully aimed three times so that way he wouldn't miss. Then Kinnara through the ring.
The ring went through the air and hit the bottle. It landed on the bottle and swirled about a bit on the bottle lip. The ring successfully landed onto the bottle. "There ya go," he said as he was handed the fox plushie and then handed it to Bijin. "I hope you like it."

"Yay!! Arigato Kin-sempai!!"
Bijin hugged his fox toy and giggled.
"It is a pretty kitsne, Kin-sempai. Oooo!! Look! The fireworks!!"
Bijin pointed into the night sky as colors exploded and brighten the area. Bijin 'yayed' and clapped all while hugging his new stuffed animal. As they watched the wonderful display, Bijin's mother brought over some fish treats and a few candies for the boys to enjoy. Bijin showed off his new fox.
"Look okaa-san! Kin-sempai won me a fox!"
"That was very nice of you, Kinnara-san. Foxes are good signs. Are you enjoying the festival?"

"Yes, I am enjoying the festival." replied Kinnara with a smile. Kinnara took a small hand full of fish treats and slowly ate them. They were quiet good. Kinnara had to brush the crumbs off his shirt.
"So umm.....what else shall we do?" he asked with a tilt of his head.

"I think we should go back to the hotel for now. You boys need to rest for our trip tomorrow."
"aww, can't we stay out a little longer?"
"Alright, but only to watch the parade. Then you both need to get some sleep."
Bijin smiled happily and dragged Kinnara over to the main street where the processions were about to start. Large dragons, acrobats, and a traveling shrine all carried on down the street. The dragons threw firecrackers to surprise the people. One landed right near Bijin which only caused him to 'eep' and grab hold of Kin's arm. He laughed a bit with a blush before he let go and continued enjoying the show.

Kinnara just looked down and smiled at Bijin. Then he went back to watching the parade. Then he saw something across the street that sent shivers down his spine. He knew who it was but kept his cool so that way Bijin wouldn't worry about him.
"Say Bijin after this we should head back to the hotel and get some sleep."

"Ok Kin-sempai. We are going to do a lot of traveling tomorrow so we had best get some sleep."
Once the parade was over, Bijin walked back to the hotel with his friend. The two boys were sharing a room with two beds. Bijin dressed in his little night shirt that had a fox on it and tucked his new fox into bed with him.
"Oyasumi nasai, Kin-sempai."
He turned over in his bed and slowly started to drift off to sleep. His arms wrapped around the fox plushie.

Kinnara fell asleep though it took him a while because his ears were senstive to everything around him at night. He could hear couples snoring and others doing stuff he didn't want to know of. He could also here Bijin's heart beat. Kinnara sleep dead with the pillow over his head so he could stop hearing things.
As he dreamt he tossed.
In his dream.
Kinnara looked around. It was a forest but it was dead and twisted. "What...where am I," he said as the world seemed to spin around him. there was a laugh.
"So cat you have return to the land of which you were born. The Jade emporer isn't pleased and will see that you will have misfortant and sadness if you don't leave."
"I came to find answers and finally defeat you. YOU DAMN rat. You betrayed our friend ship."
"heh...betrayed betrayed. That is all you talk about." continue the voice. "So your human form is Kinnara. You should be thankful for what I did or else you might have been or become nothing but a legend with words. At least you get to be real. Cat you should grateful for the gift you have."
"Gift! GIFT!" yelled Kinnara. "This gift .......you and everyone laugh at me."
"Kinnara......I would do your best to keep what you have as a human before you become like us. " said the voice as a large human like rat appeared. It had many robes on and seemed sad and ghostly. "you really are lucky."
Kinnara awoke covered in sweat and breathing hard. It was morning and the sun was peeking through the shades. He could see it was about 7:30 am; he could see that Bijin was still asleep.

Bijin yawned as he slowly awoke hearing his roommate stir. He rubbed his little eyes and blinked over at Kinnara. He frowned, he must have had a nightmare again. He pushed his sheets off and padded gently over to the cat and climbed into his bed.
"Ne, Kin-sempai. Did you have another bad dream?"
He pushed the damp bangs from his friends eyes and looked into the crimson gaze of the feline. His own brown eyes were soft and full of concern for his friend.

"No...no......just a dream of something to come," he said slowly calming down. "Did I wake you up?" He then push the sheets and covers off of him and the bed. "I am sorry if I did. "
