Anyone ever watch Degrassi: The Next Generation on the N? It tackles a lot of issues modern teens have to deal with. It follows the story of a whole high school of students as they progress through school. One is named Marco. He finds out he is gay and breaks up with his girlfriend because of it. He and her lie about it and say they are still together. Later, one of his friends beats the truth out of him and gay bashes him. Later, he is beat up on the way to a hockey game because of it, and his friend comes to his senses. He goes out with Dylan, his friend Paige's older brother, but he cheats on him. gonk Poor kid.

I used to obsessivly watch that show xD But I stopped around the time when he "came out." Man, that's a rediculous show. Yes, they deal with teen issues, but I find the show pretty inappropriate. One thing that really bothered me was that girl who cut...what was her name...Eh. Anyway, I think they dealt with that the wrong way. Just a matter that hits close to home, and it rather pissed me off.

MissDeadly Empress of the World is one of the greatest books I've ever read. Every one of you that has not read it yet needs to. Now. I've also read the Rainbow Boys books, Keeping You a Secret, Annie on my Mind, and I've seen But I'm a Cheerleader. Hours and hours of entertainment that I recommend to people of all sexualities. color=indigo]That's a great book. I read it last summer and it made me so sad that I didn't have a girlfriend! Ranklechick WOW i just read Luna by the lady who wrote Keeping you Secret, and it was great, it was aboot a girl's transgendered brother. shes the only one that knows liam is a trannie, and keeps it secret, but then when he comes out as Luna, she has a difficult time supporting her. i read it in one sitting and forgot to do my homework. whoops This is also a great book. A friend of mine bought it for me and I loved it. Another wonderful GLBTQ book is Boy Meets Boy by David Levithen. It's soo cute! I highly reccomend it.

Theres a good moive that I think everyone should watch (and should be added to the list). Its called 'But I'm a Cheerleader' Its a great story. And I just rented it the other day because I love it so much. ^-^ We watched it in GSA on one of our Moive nights at the Prez's house. I'll miss her. Anyway, this is what it says on the back of the moive: This candy-box colored comedy of sexual discover chronicles the life of Megan (Natasha Lyonne), a typical teenager coming of age in anything but a typical fashion. Megan's super normal suberan existence is filled with friends, pom-poms and rah-rah entusiasm until her straight-laced parents (Mink Strole and Bud Cort) suspect that their 'little poodle' may, in fact, be showing deviant tendencies. In a complete panic, Megan's parents elicit the help of her friends and the guidance of a rehabilitation camp to mount an all out intervention. Mike (an out-of-drag RuPaul Charles), a True Directions counselor, leads the intervention and before Megan can pack her pom-poms she is whisked off to learn how to be a perfect woman. True directions is run under the strict, all-seeing eyes of the sadistic Mary (Cathy Moriatry), Megan dutifully gets with the deprogramming so she can quickly return to her life of boyfriends, footbacll games, and her absolute favorite activity - cheerleading. Everything seems perfect, but the fun begins when her hormones start to rage, and her friends and family wonder where she'll find love! ~~~~ Rated: R I love this moive. I think why I like it so much is because it gives a inside look of what it would be like living with 'homo hating parents' not only for Megan, but a good few of the other kid's parents. So it really opens a few things up for me to see. The best part of the moive I would say is the very end of it. Now, I wont give the end away and ruin the moive. But I'm sure everyone here has heard of, 'Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays'. Its a real crack up that everyone should watch. I showed it to a couple of my to-be GSA member firends (their coming into High school next year) this movie, and now they just love it. This moive really is for everyone. ~~~ Pics: Cover - RuPaul Charles as one of the 'True Directions' counselors - Mary tries to teach the girls where 'women' belong. - Some of the boys at the camp - (Isn't the second one from the right just adorable? ^-^ He gets a bit more screen action towards the end of the moive.) Meg's Family - Mary (Creepy, ne?) - Some of the kids getting ready to take their 'Final test to become a Hetro-sexual' - Some of the girls (Bad pic) - ( I still don't understand the one on the left. I still think its a guy. But why is he/she wearing the girls uniform then?)

Shmoo-Chan ( I still don't understand the one on the left. I still think its a guy. But why is he/she wearing the girls uniform then?) She's a "dyke." She plays softball, has short hair, looks like a boy, etc. But she exclaims that she's not a lesbian, everybody just thinks she is because she "looks like one." It's about breaking the steriotype wink

So far I'm loving the "Rainbow" series...there's Rainbow High out now along with one other book that i can't remember the name of (and none of the book stores in my area carry it!) They're unlike any books that I've ever read (or waere ALLOWED to read! sweatdrop )
And there's a movie that I didn't see on your list that my mom and I love called "Mambo Italiano"-it's about this gay italian who decides to come out to his family against his boyfriends wishes, becasue italian men are supposed to marry nice italian girls! It's kindof like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" only with Italians instead of greeks.....
Then if your a Mia Verdos fan there's Connie and Carla that deals with homosexuality and cross-dressing in a funny way.....it's kinda-sorta like Victor/Victoria only not....that didn't make much sense did it? sweatdrop
YA! Those are my reviews! biggrin

I remeber this one scene from a movie where a gay military officer was dishonourably discharged for being gay. It was really stupid and it was some kind of parody film but I don't remember what it was called.

I've read Annie on my mind... i loved it. it was so.... i'm not even sure... it was good.
i've also been thinking about reading Boy meets Boy... has anyone read it? and if so is it good?
Also another good book i didn't see was Luna... it's by Julie Anne Peters. i'm bad at explaining what things are about so here's amazon's thing...
"Grade 9 Up-"Yeah, I loved her. I couldn't help it. She was my brother." Regan has always been there for her Transgender brother, Liam, sacrificing her needs for his, but when he announces that he is ready to "transition" into Luna permanently, Regan is not sure she can handle the consequences. She has been his confidant all her life, letting Luna dress in her room, buying underwear for her when Liam couldn't, and giving support. However, when the attractive new guy in chemistry class shows an interest in Regan, she wishes her sibling would just go away and give her a chance to live her own life. Liam realizes that in order for his sister to be free, he, too, must free himself to become the woman who lives inside him. Told from Regan's point of view in the present and in flashback, this novel breaks new ground in YA literature with a sensitive and poignant portrayal of a young man's determination to live his true identity and his family's struggle to accept Luna for who she really is."

The movie Lilies is a beautifully made film about.... let me plagarize someone else's description..... "This film is easily one of my favorites of all time. It is so beautifully made that I don't think anything I could write here would do it justice. The drama, and the love between the two characters is so intense and, dare I say, pure, that the fact that they are two boys is almost a non-issue. Beware the style of the film however; it is different from what you are used to, but honstly it makes the story much more poignant. The film is a recount of an old prisoner's memory to a bishop he was once friends with in childhood. The prisoner, Simón, holds the bishop captive while other inmates carefully act out the events that took place 40 years earlier. Even stranger still, is that throughout the telling of the story, the film jumps beautifully between the crude prison setting and the vibrant, colorful reality of real life, yet the actors remain the same. This means there are no 'women', only men (the inmates) acting as women, and they do so brilliantly. Honorable mention is definately Brent Carver, who plays the Countess, Vallier's mother. His character is so moving, and he plays her so well. I hope you decide to try this movie out, I really do. Rarely does something come along that I fall so in love with. This film deserves recognition for its classic, yet unorthodox sense of drama, romance, the loss of innocence, beauty and betrayal." Lilies WebsiteIt's a sad, moving movie, that can get confusing in parts but in other parts is just to sad. sweatdrop That's my two cents. 3nodding
