The big stallion almost reared in surprise at that, but only folded his wing tighter against her. "Maybe try to take a few steps, to be sure." he attempted the smile again. "If you aren't all right, I won't be giving you credit for anything." he mock-warned.

Akila rolled her eyes with a light snort, but moved forward a few steps with only a slight limp. "See? Nothing broken, just a little sore." Maybe more than a little, considering that it'd hurt twofold the next day, but she wasn't about to mention that. She turned her head and winked. "Now you have to give me credit."

He relaxed slightly, and the smile became a little more genuine. "Of course, of course. ....it's the least I can do, since I won the race." he added, tossing his mane with a teasing smirk.

Akila tossed her head defiantly. "Only by default!" she quipped. "Just you wait, one of these days I'll beat you." To emphasize her point, she stepped closer and tugged on his mane. A part of her wondered at her own familiarity, but...it felt natural, like it belonged. Tail flickering around her hocks, she smiled.

He was a little less surprised, that time, and now that it seemed certain there was no lasting harm to her....he suddenly realized just how close he was that she could n** his mane. His eyes widened as he stared into hers.

Whether or not he had the presence of mind to deny it, that she was still injured was not entirely the reason he did not shie away.

This wasn't bad at all. In fact, this was quite pleasa--

Akila's thoughts were suddenly interrupted as Tsani's violet eyes locked with hers. His eyes were purple. Why hadn't she noticed that earlier? Why did it matter? Because, for some reason Akila wasn't quite sure of, it did matter to her. She kept looking, caught in his stare.

"It's....a long way back to the village." he said at last, blinking and backing up, nostrils flared. He fanned out his wings, not sure of what else to say, and needing the breeze. His side burned with the lingering warmth of her. "Are you sure you can walk that far? You....you should rest a while."

Akila nearly protested when Tsani stepped away, but caught herself. Why did he keep mentioning the village? He must think she lived there... "The village is not my home," she corrected. Softening a little, she added, "But...a rest sounds nice." What could it hurt, after all?

He nodded. "Then right here. The grass is soft enough, if you don't fall in it." The edge had returned to his voice, though the tremulous smile returned as well. Now he tried to look anywhere but her direction, scanning the horizon for invisibles.

He couldn't see her as he did at first, a leggy filly. She was definitely a mare. A beautiful mare that didn't need wings to fly....he shook his mane sharply. What happened to born to lead?

"It wasn't like I was trying to fall..." Akila bristled slightly, but slowly sank down upon the grass anyways. She was careful to stay off of the side she had fallen on so as not to antagonize the soreness. The mare looked back up, watching Tsani scan the horizon. Aside from perhaps a few birds in the sky, she herself could see few other living creatures. Certainly nothing harmful. Then...why was he staring away so intently? "You okay?" she queried.

"I'm fine!" he blurted, too abrupt to be true. He gave a snort, glancing down at last to the mare.

He felt like he needed to sit down himself.

"I'm fine," he repeated, sounding more sure of himself. "It's YOU I'm worried about."

Akila tilted her head, a smile crossing her face. "You didn't sound fine. I don't know what you sounded like, but fine was definitely not a word I'd use to describe it. I, however, am perfectly fine, if curious as to what the not-fine thing you were is. Care to tell me, Tsani?" She nibbled at the grass a little. "You should rest too...not like I'll bite. Hard."

He thudded heavily to the grass before a protest could escape his lips. "Not like you can fall down again this way, either." he husked at last, tail lashing his flanks. He winced. The tease had sounded a lot sharper than he'd intended. Rather than risk adding to it, he fanned his wings out instead, providing her a bit of impromptu shade.

The look Akila gave Tsani was just as sharp. "Would you care to try it again sometime then, this time with you grounded?" she quipped with a toss of her head. The shade provided by his wings gave her just one more reason to envy those who could fly. After all, who wouldn't be comfortable with their own portable shade? Shifting away from him a little bit, she mock-sniffled, doing her best to sound convincing. If he was going to mock her, she'd mock right back.
