"N-no, I'm--" RuiZhi uttered a soft sound of surprise as Rylenn removed his cap and glasses, leaving the boy to blink at him in a total loss. Sleep? In Rylenn's bed? RuiZhi swallowed hard, suddenly very aware of the fact that the covers smelled like Rylenn, a soft, musty frangrance that reminded him of rain.

Rather than protest, RuiZhi curled into the corner of the bed, watching Rylenn work. If he fell asleep, then he'd fall asleep, but right now the idea of sleep was somewhat elusive.

Rylenn hummed along with the music as he tilted to the side to see if the other was asleep and was suprised he wasn't. He smiled. "Mmm... music too loud?" He tilted his head more and set the skillet down. He moved to the rhythm of the music and turned it down some. "It's old Swedish rock opera.. I love the stuff." He grinned sheepishly. "It gets the creative cooking juices flowing." He grabbed a piece of fish and blew on it as he walked over. He got to one knee and offered it to the other to eat whether from his fingers or to take it and eat it on his own.

RuiZhi smiled when Rylenn looked over at him, shaking his head in response to the question. He'd never heard Swedish rock opera before - in fact, he was pretty sure he hadn't heard opera in a real sense before - and he'd been quite content to sit and listen to the trills of the music and voices, watching the shirtless boy work.

He gave a little start when Rylenn kneeled by him, offering a piece of cooked fish. RuiZhi briefly looked at his hands, which were mostly covered by his sleeves, before looking at the boy in front of him. He lifted one of his hands, gently clasping Rylenn's wrist, leaning forward and gingerly taking the food out of the other's hand with his teeth. Releasing Rylenn, he leaned back, chewing on the food thoughtfully.

"It's fish," he said, "but it's edible." He swallowed the little piece, smiling sheepishly. "Thank you."

Rylenn laughed softly and stroked RuiZhi's cheek. "I can still make beef, Rui. Do you want me to?"

Frankly he had been suprised that the other took the food from his fingertips. He poked Rui's nose and smirked. "I'll leave it on..." He turned and went back to work, his hips going with the music.

RuiZhi was still naive enough that he didn't recognize every motion as something more than he thought of it, such as hugging at the fountain or laying with Rylenn. Taking the food had simply been a gesture, and it had been one of trust. "It's good," he affirmed as the Rylenn danced away, "keep up the good work!"

Cheesy, but he didn't know what more to say as Rylenn swung his hips to the rock opera. His eyes strayed to the books again, remembering what he meant to ask when they were first at the mall. It seemed ages ago already. "Rylenn, what are you studying for here?"

Rylenn looked over his shoulder and smiled. "I.. don't know yet.. I have ties... to both sides.. I want to know more about magic and about the cultures behind magic... about the creatures held within those books.. but.. I have ties to science as well.." He blushed a bit when he thought of Lorioth. He sighed. "But... I might head to magic."

RuiZhi picked at one of his sleeves, thoughtful. It wasn't the exact answer he would have given, but it was close. In school, it seemed he'd have something of a kindred spirit in Rylenn. "I also have ties to both sides," he said, the image of the four teachers he'd met coming to mind, "but I'm leaning on Science. I-I hope I can incorporate both, though." He was a little embarrassed to talk about himself, but after all Rylenn had said, it was the least he could do. That, and he wanted to know more of why the jovial red-head had decided to come to this school, as well as his goals.

Rylenn smiled as he brought the plates over. "Done..." He sat on his bed and turned up the volume so it was a bit louder, but not loud enough they couldn't talk over. He leaned close and smiled. "You'll like it.. I promise.. it's fish, spinach, onion, cheese and garlic."

Accpeting the plate carefully with his hands, RuiZhi flashed a grin at Rylenn. "S-so you're a cook? What are you doing here?" He turned his brown eyes to the meal, the aroma making his mouth water. Picking up the utensils, he speared a piece of fish and scooped up some of the vegitables, taking a dainty bite.

He smiled gently. "I cook on the side.. and as soon as I heard about this place.. I had to come here.. and become someone important.. and save our planet. Not for the people I've known.. but for the people I will know.. like you.. like Dante.. like Lorioth.."

He paused for a long moment then smiled. "What about you, Rui? You haven't told me anything about yourself..." He ate silently, with fairly good manners.

"Mmm," he purred appreciatively, swallowing his food and smiling. "This is very good!" He fell silent as he listened to why Rylenn had decided to come. RuiZhi found his reason to be far more altruistic than his own, and very selfless.

Looking down at his food, RuiZhi replied, "I'm here to be a Doctor. I was inspired by a great and selfless man, who was able to save my people within twenty-four hours with my brother's help." He lifted his gaze to Rylenn, smiling a little. "If I knew even a little of what he did, there are so many people I could help." He didn't know if Rylenn would catch on to what he was talking about and inquire about the magic, so he left it at that for the time being.

He smiled and laughed. He didn't catch on, though... he wasn't yanno.. bright all the time. "Who was this doctor?" He wiped a bit of spinach off the other's face and wiped it on his plate as if it were nothing. "And tell me of your childhood and your life and how you came to be inspired... "

RuiZhi sat still while Rylenn removed the rogue spinach, smiling with a faint, "Thank you." Situating himself on the bed so he could watch his friend, he thought about his own story. First question first. "His name is Doctor Kenth Larine. My sister got to work with him, so I got a real good idea of how things happened." He smiled, pleased that he was able to say that. He could see her in his mind's eye, waving him off with a roll of her eyes.

"I am...very normal," he started, taking a thoughtful bite of his dinner, careful to swallow before he continued, "My father worked in the rice patties. He stuck himself with one of our tools and died to tetanus when I was five." Another bite, swallow. "We couldn't treat it in our small village, we could only take off the worst symptoms. My mother died five years later; she was a midwife and had a big heart with small blood vessels." Bite, swallow. "I have no brothers or sisters, not by blood anyway. I helped other families for a long time, until the disease came."

He paused in eating, licking his lips in memory, his eyes seeing a green field, far away from here. "It'd been around for a long time, but after a really bad year of rain, it became wild. It could kill people instantly. Some of the townsfolk swore it was the work of the Goddess Luna, but I'm not blind. Not completely." He tapped his temple to indicate his eyes, as his glasses were still with his cap. "Anyway. The disease killed some foreign researchers who had built on sacred ground. I met my sister - she pretty much adopted me - shortly before it happened. That's when Doctor Kenth came in. He, and my sister, her friend Scientist Lina and my brother - Weiyuan, he's a student here, too - worked together and solved the real mystery of the disease."

RuiZhi had become very animated as he talked, especially mentioning the Doctor's name. "In one day! Doctor Kenth found it and the cure. My sister doesn't talk much about the cure and how she survived the disease, but she says they found some of the less friendly townsfolk." His face darkened briefly; he harbored an anger at how things had happened, but that was long enough ago that he knew he shouldn't be holding onto it. Taking a deep breath, he smiled apologetically to Rylenn. "I haven't talked that much since I learned English," he said out loud, amused. "But, that's me. One boy from a lone village, adopted by a foreigner and inspired by a brilliant doctor."

If he'd known a little more than midwife solutions, or had the power to heal the body from the inside...no, he musn't think that way. If his parents had been alive, he may not have been here today. In a round about way, everything in his life had lead him here; he was not going to disappoint the forces that had done so.

Rylenn smiled and nodded. "That's amazing..." He finished his plate and set it aside. He laid down, beginning to lounge like a big cat. He purred softly as he scratched his stomach. He looked up at RuiZhi and smiled. He was getting tired.. which was rare for him to be so tired so early, but he hadn't had a day so full of events in a while..

"Thanks you, RuiZhi."

RuiZhi finished the last few bites of his meal, standing to take his plate to the kitchen area. He scooped down and picked up Rylenn's as well, putting them on the counter, "Thank you, Rylenn, for listening, and for the meal," he said with smile, "I guess I can eat fish."

Turning back to face the big man-cat on the bed, the boy chuckled, "Should I go so you can rest? It's been quite a day."
