Lol! I've actually seen that website before when I first started learning about satanism. I am not sure what my own opinion on magic is. Its never really made sense to me but its really interesting to learn about. But anyways, isn't just the manipulation of your own energy? Or is that completely wrong? I know that the Harry Potter magic is not real. I'm still not even sure if I believe it to be real or not.

Magic, simply defined is using the power of your will to effect change in yourself or the world around you.

Basically, You're not physically changing anything, but the power of your mind creates a sort of cause and effect thing in the world. I good example is concentrating on healing a person, and your spiritual energy will aid their energy in rebuilding the injured part of their body faster than normal.

You can use power from within yourself, from God or the gods (or other spirits), or from the world and the energies embedded in plants, stones, the elements, etc.

Next question, converting. What are the Church of Satan's views on this? Do they send people out like the Moroms do, or do they hardly ever let people into their church?

The Church of Satan does not believe in converting people. You are either "born a Satanist", or you aren't. Born a satanist, simply meaning that you read the Satanic Bible, found yourself reflected in it, and realized you were a Satanist all along.

That is a solid stratagy. The more you force the religion, the more the person is going to hate your religion. If you let people come on their own, you have a chance.

"Well, my point of view is that some people do have a moral concsiuos (sp?). Some people know the difference between right and wrong. I ultimatley believe that it's in the person's head. Phycology. If the person knows what he/she wants, then that person will go out and accomplish it. If the person truly loves his/her partner then neither of them will cheat. "
Good point, Lovey.

I don't agree with the "Santanist" all along. People change. And their morals change. They may read it and not see themselves in it at all, and then read it 20 years later and feel much more familiar with it. Why did the first founders of the Satanic Church choose Satanism, if they don't really believe in God or his counterpart. Or... at least that's what I've gathered from the posts... Am I completely wrong? My ignorance in religion is most embarassing. sweatdrop

I agree with darkangel's most recent. I definitely think that if I had much more freedom with my religion when I was younger, I would probably still see myself as Catholic...

Mr. Lafay had a sense of humor plus wanted a catchy name? What better than the Church of Satan? You get a lot of free publicity from those Christians. Think about it. You won't forget the name. Plus, what is better than laughing your head off at the ingorant people that don't know what your religion stands for. That must be a great t.v show. They are paying the Christians back; after all, now there is another group to attack with a perfect name. Lavay was a genius naming his church this.

Plus, the Church of Satan believes in being selfish, the complete opposite of Christianity. They believe in getting everything in this life because there is no life after death. Also the opposite.

That is very true. People constantly change. And if, in twenty years they see themselves as a Satanist, they will be most welcome. Satanists are called Satanists partly for shock value. We figure if we are seen as evil for not following a Christian God, we might as well be the black sheep. It's a slight oxymoron, really.

Those who do not understand the word "Satanism" when it is called lack the mental capacity to comprehend it, and they are welcome to be ignorant. For those who seek knowledge are not ignorant

It's "LaVey". With Christianity being an obvious counterpart, we get, em.... oogled... alot. However, the aim of Satanism isn't to rub our ways into the face of every Christian that we see. That would take too much time sweatdrop

I think you only talk about it if someone wants to have a real converstation about it. No use in the people who will still think you are Satan worshipers.

Of course, this is my view from outside the religion. I am not a Satanist.

I really don't beleive in sins at all, in fact, I think humans were made to sin. However, if we were not to sin, then we wouldn't be able to live. And so forth, so... basically what I am saying is that humans live, then become part of the world and that's when we find peace and understanding. Sins are just ravinous and sometimes hurtful feelings/actions humans do to one another wether it be on purpose or not... so... yeah..

You have a point there. How would we learn anything if we didn't sin?

You are not ignorant. smile The fact that you are showing interest and tolerance makes you open-minded and not ignorant.

And to reply to your post, you are right. If I had read the Satanic Bible a long time ago, I would have thought it to be evil or wicked and crazy. But now when I read, I see myself reflected in it.

You are right, the atheistic Satanists don't believe in God or the Devil as actual beings, but the name 'Satanism' captures what the religion is about. It's symbolic, they believe Satan represents what a human being naturally is in terms of carnal instinct and inherent nature.

To answer the last part of your post, I think when people are forced a religion onto them, after a while, they tend to stray away from it. If I was given more religious freedom, maybe I would still be a Muslim. But I'm not. For now, I'm proud of I what I currently believe.

Thank you again for all the great replies. I know it's been almost two years since anyone posted here, but I still have tons to talk about....if you all don't mind. wink

I wanted to hear what your thoughts are about Adam and Eve. Again I'll leave a lot of room for discussion. I think Jehova's Witness's believe that all the diversity we have came from Adam and Eve in terms of different backgrounds. That all the different Races and people were born from them.(Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

I believe, that when Satan came in the form of a snake and gave Eve the fruit, he had freed her by giving her knowledge.

Some will say, that's when the 7 deadly sins were created, and from that point on, we became evil. Of course, I don't believe that. (We have already discussed the 7 deadly sins). So for now....

*Discuss*

~ What you believe about Adam and Eve and...
~ Whether you believe they even existed or not.

Just a reminder, I'm very truely sorry if I offend anyone. I'm just interested in other points of view. It is a learning experience for me and the best way to learn is not only to read books, but to also talk to other people.

Thank you all once again.
