Children Of The Flame

Gion blinked. Something about this seemed too familiar ...
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 9:29 pm

Anyhow....

Daemon finished.

I digress.... The point is that thing they summoned even after the war was still loose, every day it was loose the stronger it became. At the time Yume and I didn't realize this, we were busy raising Kara and then Kyoko. Yume died on the job, and while we both knew dealing with the things that went bump in the night was dangerous well.....
He trailed off a bit.

By the time the creature came into our knowledge it was clear that if nothing was done it would cause an unimagable deal of damage. Since it was Demons who summoned it the main fear between me and Long is that it would start another war.

He sighed.

I had a choice to make and I made it, even with vision in tack, I'd rather that then seeing a war break out that could involve the children because of their backgrounds. It became very unacceptable because we had been hiding the fact Kara was an angel for years in hopes she wouldn't fledge hence giving herself away to the council. The old stick in the muds would have just brainwashed her with their bigot-ness against Demons and other races.

Gion blinked. What does that mean? he asked. That you hoped she wouldn't fledge? Why would it be bad that she was with you? And what was the choice that you made?

He was a little confused.

Well... techically after Luna died the 'state' as in the city took control of Kara's upbringing even though it was Luna's wish for her to be raised by us. She requested this for several reasons, one she didn't want Kara growing up to be one of those zealots who started the whole mess. So... I kind of asked Long for a favour... I never asked how he got her out of the city... but I'm sure it wasn't legal.

Daemon coughed a bit.

Besides Angels themselves are a target for other beings, so it was best for her not to fledge, by doing so her aura alone for those who could 'see' would be able to find her.

But what do you mean by 'fledge'? Gion questioned. He pulled out a canteen and took a drink. It was really starting to get hot out ...

Some angels, specifically the ones with large wings like Luna's aren't born with them, it's a very delicate process that takes longer to develop than they spend time in the womb. So as they grow up their wings develop inside of their bodies, these are also the angels that can take on a human form. When they reach puberty they begin to fledge, or rather they sprout wings, but since they haven't learnt how to fly it's called fledging.

Daemon explained this all in a very textbook sort of manner before adding the end note.

Of course.... strangely enough angels who grew up believing they are... mainly human since that's the only race you could get away with claiming they would be at that stage, they fail to fledge until they know otherwise.

Ah, of course, Gion smiled. Yukito told me that...

And suddenly he realized two things: first, that the Kara Daemon was telling him about reminded him of the angel Kara who had visited them ... and second, that if Daemon had been in the healer's house since before the war, that was well over twenty-five years at the least, and Kara was far too young to have been thirty eight. Which of course meant that the Kara who had visited was not Daemon's Kara, and so was not worth mentioning.

Although I find it difficult that people can grow up not knowing what they are, he added.

Well look at it this way...

Daemon pointed out.

Angels... minus the wing bit, are.. physically on the outside are like humans. Sure they tend to be shorter, than humans but no more than say.... five foot... one maybe? Five foot sometimes.... and then some angels can become very tall. Which is very normal among humans depending on where you come from. Sure they are magical beings, but Gaia as you have probably noticed has no bounds in which races can do magic..

It was how they got away with it for so long with Kara growing up. Besides she hit puberty when he left so...

So, if you're raised by humans, and you look for sake of arguement human, you probably would think you're one. Any unusual gifts could be explained off that her family probably had a long line of mages, it's happened.

I see, Gion nodded. Well, if the races are similar enough, I suppose that makes sense. It's just that here the races are so radically different that it's not really possible not to know what you are. Or what others are ...
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:03 pm

True... from what you've told me that is greatly the case unlike in Gaia. But there are races that are like that.

Daemon would have shrugged but well his mind gave off the illusion of a shrug.

That's what I know, and the point is, that creature had to be stopped. Yes, I suppose I could have tried to get someone else to do it, but the fear was what if they didn't realize how serious it was? So... Long and I went, he was suppose to ahndle the sword, he was the mage and as Long likes to tell me. I would have probably injuried myself on it by accident.

So if he had the sword, how did you end up inside it? Gion questioned.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:10 pm

It happened pretty quickly, if I may be cliche in saying so. Daemon replied. But somewhere in the fight Long was... as I had mentioned rammed into a wall and knocked unconcious. He dropped it at that point and I didn't think, I just grabbed it and tried to finish the spell he started.

He paused.

So yes... the spell with the sword was to seal the creature up since it was far too powerful to kill, it was in hopes the sealing spell would drain it of it's power. It was put back to where it belonged before it was summoned all those years ago, and me... I was put into a sword.

I think that if I ever make it to your world, I'll try to avoid that area, Gion thought drily. Nothing personal ... I'm sure you understand.

He peered ahead and grinned. The mountain's in sight.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:31 pm

I don't blame you, I don't want to be back there... it was creepy.

Daemon stated as if it was a fact and seemed to shudder.

Ooo.. We are? Does it still look like a wolf?

Gion scratched his head and squinted at the mountain. It was still a day's journey ahead, miles and miles away ...

Not ... really, he thought slowly. But it's been a few thousand years since it was called that, and I know time affects mountains and stuff ...

He showed Daemon a mental picture of the mountain: in reality, it looked more like a hill, at least from this distance. It had only one peak, and it was very rounded. He wondered if the cave would even still be there now.
