Briar held Kechara as she cried. He stroked a paw through her hair, rubbing her back in a soothing manner as he whispered reassurances into her ears. When her tears stopped, he continued to hold her. "Don't apologize," he whispered. "You didn't burden me. You've never burdened me. I'm here for you no matter what."

Kechara clenched hers eyelids tighter, desperately wishing that this was true, "B-but...All I've ever done is be a burden! I'm horribly shy, you've had to help me when I got hurt, you had to help me with my family and I've never done anything back for you!" She whispered, "A-and now I'm here blubbering like a fool! You m-must be tired of all this by now!" She shook her head, "A-and I couldn't even tell you why I'm acting like this. You must be annoyed, you must be tired of me, a-and I completely understand if you never w-want to see me again!" She sniffed faintly, perparing herself for him to draw away from her and leave, surely the evidence was enough to make him realize the mistake he had made in taking her as his mate.

"You don't need to do anything back for me," Briar told her, nuzzling his nose against her cheek. "I help you because I want to, because I like to, because I don't want to watch you suffer. You're not a burden. I would never see you like that, and I could never be tired of having you around me."

Kechara's eyes opened, dark pink irises merely shades darker then the skin around them. She blushed despite herself at his touch and it darkened more as his words sank in. She drew away from him slowly, and with great reluctance, staring up at him, heat in her cheeks quite evident, "Y-you wouldn't be ashamed of having an outcast as a mate?" She asked softly, eyes intent on his.
She should have told him beforehand, she should have been more careful. There were so many things she should have done. Telling him about her past, telling him about her secrets, there was so much they should have done before this, but there was no going back now.

Briar drew himself up a bit at the question. "You're not an outcast to me," he said. "I like you, and no one is going to change that. I don't care about mean people's opinion of you, and you shouldn't either. Their opinions don't matter. What matters is that I like you just as you are."

Kechara stared up at him, mouth open slightly in surprise. He didn't care? He didn't care what others thought? He didn't care that she was an outcast? She turned scarlet, "B-but..." She clutched at her loose ribbons, slowly pulling them off to reveal the secret beneath.
Scars, intricately carved into her so that no fur grew there and likewise tattooed with multiple colors, crawled over her form. They had been hidden expertly by her bows. They were a testament to her position as a disgraced family member. Many were clearly old, the tissue surrounding it having already recovered as best it could, a few were newer, still a shade of pink around the edges of color.
She looked back at him, a trembling smile and tears in her eyes, "Still? Do you still like me? O-or do you also see...my disgrace?" She whispered, desperation and hope leaking into her voice.

Briar's gaze softened as he stared at Kechara. He was sad that she was forced to endure the pain of receiving those scars and angered at the ones who had done this to her. Kechara was beautiful despite the ugly scars marring her body.
"I would never see you as a disgrace," Briar said, pulling her back to him. "You're beautiful to me."

Kechara stared at him and kept staring. Everything she had ever learned, perfection was in a body unmarred, unscathed, with a mind dedicated to keeping it that way. Beauty meant being a gorgeous shade of color, with other gorgeous symbols in similar colors, which she clearly didn't have. She gasped as he pulled her to him and buried her face in his fur. "I don't understand," She whispered, "I don't understand at all." she clung to him desperately, "But I love it."

Briar chuckled lightly at her words. "You don't think you have to understand," he told her, nuzzling against her. Something tugged at his mind, and he pulled back a little. "I should finish bandaging your leg."

Kechara nodded, suddenly conscious of the fact that her leg still bled, and it still hurt. She shifted, allowing him access to her hurt leg once again. She looked at her ribbons, which lay discarded next to her. Slowly and meticulously she began to wind them over her scars and tattoos once again, hiding them from the rest of the world.

Briar picked up the new strips and began wrapping the wound again. He hoped the wound would stop bleeding again soon. Out of the corner of his eyes, he watched as Kechara replaced the bows that hid her scars. He only disliked the scars because they filled with anger toward the ones who hurt Kechara.

Kechara finished tying the last bow, using her teeth to pull it tight. "There." She said before tilting her head to look at Briar. Her eyes grew concerned, "Are you okay, Briar?" She asked softly, looking at him carefully, "Are you hungry? Should we go find something to eat?" She waited for him to finish bandaging her wound before standing and offering him a hand, "Hee, my turn to help you up." She giggled, smiling. It was such a relief to know that someone didn't care about her physical appearance or past, they cared about her.

Briar finished tying the bandages around Kechara's wound and took her hand to pull himself to his feet. "Are you sure you're ready to start walking again?" he asked out of concern, not wanting her wound to get worse from walking too much.

Kechara smiled and shook her head, squeezing his paw, "I'm fine." She told him, "I have a feeling it's going to be much better now." She stepped forward, still holding his hand, "Let's go," She said, tugging gently, "I know a certain numa who should eat," She tilted her head back at him, eyes sparkling merrily, "Despite the fact he has the strange thought he's fat."

Briar nodded and stepped forward along with Kechara. "All right," he said with a light chuckle. "But we'll go slow," he added in a sterner tone. "I don't want to risk your wound reopening again."
