Mayu had found herself distracted again with watching the blossoms, so much so that she hadn't even realized that Demare had taken off a little while ago.

"Say, Demare, aren't they pretty?" she said out loud, waiting for an answer. When she didn't receive one, Mayu frowned. "Say, Demare?"

It was then that she noticed that her outstretched hand was empty. Mayu looked up in surprise, to find no one walking alongside her. ...Crap. Had she walked ahead of him? Maybe he was somewhere behind her...

The girl did a full 360 spin, becoming increasingly worried as she couldn't see the teen anywhere. This... this wasn't good.

Demare had managed to walk himself to the far end of the park, away from the cherry trees. He hadn't realized it until he came to an empty bench, his monochrome eyes scanning the area for people. There wasn't anyone else this far out, most everyone staying close to the trees.

Sighing lightly, he set his basket of flowers down by his feet before flopping down onto the wooden seat, sloaching so that he could rest his head against the backboards when he leaned it back. Closing his eyes, the halfling tried to calm himself down, his whole body feeling tense from the anger and frustration that he'd felt only moments ago.

Why did he act like that? He'd just gotten over the whole acceptance thing, but when he grew older, it was as if he had to relearn how to let it all go. Or maybe it wasn't him, but everyone else that had the problem...?

Carefully, the legend reached into his pants pocket and took out a small black, velvet box, holding it over his head as he slowly pulled it open with his thumb. Opening his left eye, he gazed at the contents of the box, idly wondering if any of this was a good idea anymore. He couldn't help but think that he ruined things for Mayu, and he was no longer sure of what to do.

"Demare?" Mayu called, a glum expression coming onto her face when no one answered. Nope, this definitely was not good. The girl looked around once more before moving over to a nearby bench, sitting down quietly.

She swung her feet as she watched the crowds of people pass by slowly, none of them paying any remote attention to her. How was she going to find Demare now? There were too many people, and she was utterly unfamiliar with the park. What was she supposed to do, though, just sit there all day?!

Her stomach grumbled quietly. Mayu pouted. And now she was hungry... Well, at least she had the picnic basket right here. She flipped open the straw lid, shuffling the contents of the basket around before pulling out an onigiri in plastic wrap, unwrapping it before taking a big bite out of it.

Curling his fingers around the box, Demare snapped it shut before dropping his arm down onto the bench, taking in another deep breath and exhaling it slowly. Perhaps he'd just wait here until the crowd settled down, and then just head home. He doubted Mayu would stick around by herself, but he also wasn't sure if she knew how to get home.

Maybe she'd get lost long enough for him to calm down and find her, so he could at least escort her home.

Kicking his feet up onto the now makeshift bed, the halfling layed back, folding his hands, with the box in the middle, over his stomach. At least it was fairly quiet over here, most of the noise disappating before reaching where he was. He'd have to keep this place in mind the next time he wanted to relax.

Chomping down the rest of the rice ball, Mayu wadded the plastic wrap and tossed it into a nearby trash can. That would sustain her for a little bit, at least. Her stomach wasn't grumbling anymore.

She stood herself up, shutting the lid on her basket and sliding it back onto her arm before starting down the path again. Okay! It was time to find Demare!

...Okay, so she really had no idea how she would manage that. He could be anywhere by then, and the park seemed pretty big. She closed her eyes and twirled around, stopping herself after ten seconds and opening her eyes. She would start in this direction first!

After her head had settled, Mayu set off in her chosen direction, stumbling off of the path and through a few bushes before pushing out onto another section of the path.

"Demare?" she called, waiting for a reply.

There was no answer, at least from a human being. A few birds chirped from the tree tops, and a small red butterfly fluttered past Mayu.

Darn. Mayu looked back, wondering if she should go back in the direction that she came from and start over again.

...Nah, she would test her luck today. The girl continued down the path, calling out Demare's name at whim to see if anyone would answer.

She finally made her way out of the tree-lined path. There were practically no people around here... perhaps she had gone too far?

Mayu was about to turn back before she noticed a familiar-looking teenager lying on a bench just a few more meters off from where she was standing.

"Found you!" she called, running over to Demare quickly. That was some lucky break she had gotten right there. She gave a sigh of relief as she placed the picnic basket down, sitting herself down on one of the armrests of the bench.

Demare blinked a few times as he heard a voice, turning his head and watching Mayu situate herself on the arm of the bench. Honestly, he was kind of surprised.

"You... didn't go home?" he asked, slowly sitting himself up so she could sit down if she wanted to. He quickly shoved the box he was holding into his pocket before adjusting the kimono so that it was closed.

"Why would I go home?" Mayu replied. "The day's not over yet!"

She nodded in thanks before taking a seat besides Demare. Leaning against the back of the bench, Mayu closed her eyes and gave another long sigh.

"You know, I was really worried," she finally said, "that maybe I had gone too far ahead of you. How'd you end up here of all places?"

"I'm not really sure," the halfling responded, looking up toward the sky. "I was just so mad... I kept walking, and I ended up here."

He closed his eyes for a moment. "It's nice here, though. Quieter... and you can still see the trees."

"Mad?" Mayu asked, a slight frown forming on her face. "At... what?"

She looked back in the direction of the trees, nodding and smiling. "It's nicer than being jostled around in the crowd." Mayu could feel the wind on her face, and she silently hoped that the breeze would blow some of the flower petals their way.

"...Say, are you hungry now?" the child asked all of a sudden, reaching over to pick up the picnic basket. "This is a nice spot to have lunch."

The halfling lulled his eyes open. At what...? He leaned forward a bit, resting his elbows onto his knees.

"Could you not hear them...?" he asked, almost glaring at the people in the distance. "Could you not hear what they were saying...?"

As if by request, a few lone petals began to flutter past. The petals were white instead of pink, however, differing from the blooms on the cherry trees.

"I'm not that hungry... But if you are, please eat," Demare told her, hanging his head slightly as he thought. What was he supposed to do?

Mayu shook her head. She hadn't been paying attention to the chatter amongst the crowd at all. She had been there to look at the trees, after all, not eavesdrop on other peoples' conversations.

"What'd they say?" she asked, in pure curiosity. Her eyes followed the trailing petals as they danced in the breeze, lifting higher and higher before floating slowly to the ground.

The child grinned happily as she flipped open the lid of the picnic basket, pulling out another rice ball, along with a thermos and a cup. She poured herself a full cup of tea and set it on the arm of the bench, scarfing down the rice ball quickly before downing the beverage.

Demare sighed softly, running a hand through his reddish hair. For some reason, he wasn't sure if she would understand.

"They were talking about us..." he tried to explain, frowning. "Not... the good kind, either."

He blinked a few times as he noticed who quickly she ate, having not realized how hungry she must have been. Maybe they should have eatten first. Straightening himself out, he took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

"Do... Do you think this is wrong...?"

Mayu nodded as she listened to him talk, pouring herself another glass of tea while she was at it. The blank expression on her face showed obviously that she had no idea what he was talking about, however.

She took out another rice ball, nibbling on it slowly this time. The girl chewed her mouthful slowly as she thought about Demare's question, the blank look still remaining on her face.

"What's 'this'? Being at the park together?" she asked, once she had swallowed her food. "If so, then I think it's perfectly fine! It's been fun so far!" she grinned to show her approval.
