>> Only the blackest of hearts
Well, not really on a Paganistic/Wiccan basis, but some people like to go by the names of their true selfs. The name of my true self is Xaviera (I found meant "bright, splendid; new house" - which, if any of you ever come across me in the realms - you would know doesn't fit me in any way, shape, or form). My given name means "Protector of Mankind" "Victory" "Hillside" - *theory, could you use this to look up my real name - yes, I just don't care*. Now, the other two I can live with - last names mean nothing more then your ancestry, and have little less then your origin deep within them - and hell, who doesn't want to be called "victorious" (it's Victoria - if you couldn't guess). However, the title "Protector of Mankin" just sorta annoys me... I hate mankind, in general. I would never protect them, perhaps some special individuals, but if I had to protect the whole species - well... they wouldn't get protected. However, the name itself (Alexandra) is quite a nice name - so I live with it... the only reasons I can think of for changing my name is that (a) nobody can pronounce my last name (b) my full name... is longer then John-Jacob-Jingle-Heimer-Schmitt, both in syllables and letters.

The Wiccan/pagan name thing is a name you give yourself. That's the whole problem. People who chose their own names tend to want the most ostentacious ones out there.

Yeah, if I were to change my name... I don't know what I would change it to you... for the purposes mentioned earlier, my first name would be Xaviera, my middle name would stay Victoria, to keep to my given identity... then I would probably find a Japanese or Greek last name with a Z or Q in it (at this point - I have an Arabic name with an X and a Latin name with a V... might as well go all out, you know?). Except... none of the names with those two letters of that origin are that long - and I'd want it long... so... I'll get a German one. Zilberschlag will do *nods* If I ever attempt to change my name, legally, to Xaviera Victoria Zilberschlag - please hit me over the head with something heavy.

Good point - I don't know if the Greeks did, but the Japanese don't have them (well, technically they don't use our alphabet... but the sound is usually represented kuwa...) - I am too lazy to find a surname with a Z elsewhere though, so I will stick with Zilberschlag *nods*

Laren Honestly, I don't think the True Name is something that can be spoken. It's a resonance. Your part in the celestial chorus. You sing it with your whole being, and people can control you if they learn how to affect your resonance. All of this is fluffy-fru-fru pillow talk for your personality. PILLOW FRIEND!!! rofl rofl rofl Oh. My. God. I think I need to be shot. @dras and Dragon: I used to really hate my name. It got worse once I was immersed in a class where there were *four* of us. Then I said screw it and molded people's perception of the name so it'd fit me. I now know with absolute *certainty* that the name "Emily" evokes, for at least a given portion of the population, the association "The Evil One". Poor jilted bastards that they are. But really, I have done my bit to make my name mean intelligence and a progressive attitude. Huzzah for me. Same happened with a girl I know who was named Bunny. Her parents legally changed it later, but they still called her the same thing. I now think of someone racked who prefers girls and has a mean left hook anytime I hear the name. Shape reality to fit you. Speaks loads more about your strength of character than making up a new name to fit your persona. Or at least that's my preference.
