"We are about to arrive at Kuroi-dono's residence, Nekozawa-san."

The clear blue eyes of the blond adverted themselves away from the scenery passing by the limo's window as it sped along, coming to rest on the back of the driver's head before returning to the window. He was feeling somewhat guilty for not being able to get to his Vice-President's party sooner, but sometimes a private jet wasn't always going to get you there as fast as you wanted it to. After all, the speed 'instant' had yet to be perfected.

"I had been hoping that my parents would have found something to occupy themselves with so that I would have been able to attend the New Year's Ball. I hope she's not too mad at me."

The driver simply chuckled, turning a corner and starting down the road that lead up to the Kousetsu Estate. The gates were already open and waiting for them, allowing the driver to simply glide past them and come to a stop in front of the road leading up to her house. Nekozawa nodded towards the driver and smiled before stepping out onto the lit path. A bit painful yes, but it was nothing that a flick of his hooded robe couldn't fix. Hopefully the inside would be less bright.

Hitori was here wasn't he? Most likely he wouldn't want to see his dear father but nonetheless Lawrence came, the gothic cinderella-esque carriage he rode in being a few blocks away as the jet came to a stop in front of the house that Lawrence identified as the home where Hitori was located at. He had heard about Hikaru, Hitori's half brother who had no relation to the dark prince himself. The carriage had stopped a few blocks down, dropping him off so he could walk the rest of the way. With his black hair down over his shoulders and wearing a lovely tailed suit, he walked along the concrete sidewalk, dancing with the darkness.

He had a red shirt and a black tie along with his blazer piece, red pants and black boots to dress his legs. on the tie a little bat wing pendant shone with black jewels, his hands adorned with gloves. Of course, he had to have some modern fashion on so his entire outfit was made of a sort of latex, giving him the look of the type of man you'd see owning a night club- and he did.

"I swear if I had had Kaito or Jinbu there..."

The modern day maiko Kuroi moved quickly from the open door of the limo down the still decorated path to the front door. Cheeks puffed out, eyes narrowed into an angry glare, and her face flushed a light crimson showed that she was upset about something to a very extreme degree. Indeed she was, and for a few very good reasons too.

'Since Hitori-kun wont let me do him I'll have to settle.'

"I have never been so insulted in all of my life! Not even when Hitori-kun fell asleep at my tea ceremony and later called it boring did I feel so offended! If I see his face within the next week, I'm going to take my binder and..."

She paused on the front step, having caught something in the corner of her eye. While she had been stewing over the event that had just happened, she had completely missed the fact that it had snowed. Fresh and loose powder lay around her and stirred only when the wind swept by to place a soft kiss upon her warm cheeks. Turning off to the side, Kuroi slowly moved out away from the front path and began to round the house to the hillside that was her backyard. The ground was completely covered in a veil of white. Every barren tree branch held a small handful of the angel's silk within the nooks and corners, and the miniature shrines that littered the base of the trees held their own on their small roofs. Of she hadn't known better, she would have sworn that someone had come along and taken the color from her eyes. The contrasting of the white and the grey hues of the trees and shrines were all that could be seen.

Kuroi didn't wish to breath, fearing that it would stir the wind and this pure moment would be swept away. But as if to show her that this scene would not end just yet, she felt a cold touch upon her still warm face. The snow was beginning to fall again. Kuroi tilted her head backwards to gaze upwards towards the winter sky, a soft smile gracing her lips.

"Night deepens
The big dipper spills
Cold white dew"

A haiku she had heard long ago, and one to perfectly fit this moment in time. Pulling her black winter hat from her head, she held it low in both hands and closed her eyes to soak in all that was. If one had been looking on the scene would have been something like this:

A field of complete nothingness, blanketed by the newly fallen snow save for the grey trunks of the standing trees. And as if to add to the contrast, a girl in a black skirt and shirt stood with her eyes closed towards the heavens. Her hair was dotted by the still falling snow, giving it the appearance of fallen stars within her dark chocolate brown locks.

"Kuroi-chan, it's time for bed."

It was as if she had snapped out of a trance, her eyes having to readjust from the darkness of her eyelids to the blinding white of the snow. Turning around to see who it had been, she spotted Viri at the back door of their house, beconing her inside before she became sick from the cold. Feeling as if she was only a shell of herself she turned and started towards the calling maid, each step seeming to bring her back down to Earth. When she had reached the doorway of the back door she suddenly realized that she had left something great. Turning around to gaze back at the backyard, she caught only a glimpse of what had been her temporary relief from reality before Viri closed the door. A look of slight sorrow crossed her face, but it was soon gone as she was overcome by a sense of peace.

Kuroi went to bed, and thought nothing more about the incident with Hikaru until the next morning.

The soft winter sunlight shone on the black curtains that covered the window leading into Kuroi's room, lightening the color ever so slightly. For one reason or another this was enough to stir Kuroi from her sleep. Several of her soft yet define curled locks shifted to fall in front of her face as she turned over to the open side of her bed, her grey eyes fluttering open and adjusting to the darkness of her room. One of the maids had come in and turned off her bedroom light while she was sleeping, so besides the small bit of light coming from the window the entire room was pitch black. Now we all know that Kuroi is the Vice-President of the Black Magic Club, meaning that she did dabble in the Dark Arts and thrived in the shadows. But it became a completely different story when there was very little or no light involved at all. Not allowing her imagination to get away with her, Kuroi scrambled to the light switch in a very non-geisha fashion and flicked it on. Only when the dark light illuminated the room in full did she finally relax.

"Ah. I hate my irrational fears."

Sighing softly to herself, she slunk over to her dresser drawer and began rummaging through it for something to wear today. Seeing as her wardrobe was made up of entirely black dresses, it wouldn't be too hard to predict what it could be.

Knocking the newest blanket of snow off of her shoes, Kuroi slipped them off at the front door and slipped into a pair of dark purple fuzzy slippers instead. She had completely forgotten about this tradition while her party had been going on a few days ago, leaving her to panic over some very small scuff marks on the wooden floor. They had been easy enough to get out, but from then on Kuroi had placed a small sign outside the door asking visitors to take off their shoes when entering. Still standing in the small indentation in the floor just for the entrance, she shook her head some and loosened up the light gathering of snow that had become trapped in her hair. Like the gentle snow fall outside the frees snowflakes drifted to the floor below her, but soon melted on contact and became nothing more than small droplettes of water. her eyes lingered on the changed form of her beloved snowflakes, then sighed as she stepped up onto the main floor of the house and started towards her bedroom.

"It's so lonely in this house, even if I do have my brother and sister here with me."

A smile crossed her lips, soft, delicate, and all the while filled with a sorrow. By the way, where were her siblings at the moment? Usually Ketsueki would run up o the door to greet her, and Taka would be sitting in the gameroom watching T.V. But instead she had been met with silence. Walking into the kitchen, Kuroi couldn't help but notice that there was a sheet of paper crudely stuck to the marble counter top.

'Me and Taka went to a party at Kiyo's. We'll be back around seven.'

The bottom of the paper held the signatures of them both, neither of them bothering with cursive and simply wrote out their names with curly ends. Such a lazy set of siblings she had. Setting the notice back down on the counter, Kuroi moved out of the kitchen and down the hallway to the stairway leading up to the bedrooms. She would more than likely sit in her room for the next few hours, reading over scrolls and pouring over books to further her studies as a follower of the Dark Arts. But all in all...

"... Maybe I need to throw another party. That way there's a bit more life in this place. "

Kuroi hadn't gotten to sleep until very late that night, seeing as her siblings had decided to stay out until ten instead of seven. They reasoned with her that there was another party that they were invited to join, and if they didn't want to have a lack of social life like her then they couldn't have refused it. She had been half asleep then, so she didn't catch the insult to the fact she only had two or three friends. Instead she scolded them for not calling her and sent them up to their rooms. It was all she could do, seeing as she was only acting as mother in place of the real one. Afterwards she slunk up to her bedroom and was asleep before her head hit the pillow.

The next morning was different than what had been the day before, for the sun was not what woke her up. Instead her eyelids were lit up by the dark and caring light of her bedroom light fixture, meaning that when her eyes did open they did not meet the looming darkness of her room. Viri had been nice enough to wake up early and turn the light on for the young Mistress, having heard her stumbling around for the light switch while making breakfast downstairs. None of the other family members had such a fear, but whenever Kuroi showed it it either looked very cute or very embarassing for her. Opening her eyes, she turned towards the activated light and then towards Viri in the doorway.

"Breakfast will be ready shortly, Kuroi-chan. Get yourself a shower, dressed for school and hurry on down."

To Kuroi, the servants here treated her more like a younger sister than an actual heir to her mother's line of work. Not that she minded it or anything, but that just meant that she had a whole lot of older siblings. Nodding towards Viri, she sat up in bed just as she maind left to head back downstairs. Maybe this day would start out a bit better than the one before. Sliding out of bed, she grabbed her silk bathrobe and and headed to the bathroom that sat between her brother and sister's rooms.
