Son of Axeman
On the pentacle issue: If you wear a pentacle (as I do), you have to be prepared for ignorance and stupidity. You're basically asking for it. So, be careful where and when you wear it. I remember I went to a Catholic church once, and it slipped out from under my suit...

Hooooo, boy, were all them Catholics mad at me.

This is how it used to go with me when I was Wiccan:

Ignorant Idiot Scoundrel (IIS): Do you worship the devil?
Me: I don't believe in the devil.
IIS: You're gonna go to hell!
Me: I don't believe in hell either.
IIS: So you're an atheist?
Me: No.
IIS: Then what are you?
Me: (sigh) I'm Wiccan.
IIS: What's that?
Me: It's a religion that focuses on life and rebirth instead of death.
IIS: So does christianity.
Me: Does it?
IIS: Yes, you should convert to our conformist ways and find out for yourself.
Me: How 'bout not, eh?

anyway... I found my way out of it usually. You have to learn to say things the exact right way. But then I decided that religion wasn't for me... now I really am not sure what I believe in anymore...

Oh, and I hate when people think the Budhha was fat just because of the happy buddha statues.
I don't like that either.
It's hard to get fat from living under a tree with no material possessions.(almost)
Apparently he did get fat at the end of his life, though, but I personnally disagree with the idea of selling statues, or them even existing, as I feel a Manefestation of God (Prophet, ect.) shouldn't be represented by a statue/painting/ect. Doing this increases the likelihood that the idols or the person will be worshipped as a god.(In my view-bad.)

I usually call LDS people "Mormons" with no problem. I've only met one who was bothered before this, so I don't use the phrase around him anymore. Simple. I don't like LDS, as I have minor dyslexic moments and read, write, or say LSD. And that just confused people even more, believe me.

As for polygamy, it is practices by the FLDS (Fundamentalist Latter Day Saint) Churches in backwater Utah. The LDS church had it at the time of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, up until they scrapped it because the government was forcefully seperating families and becoming quite angry. At least, according to the book I read on it. Under The Banner of Heaven, I believe was the title.

And, I get called a Satanist fairly often, too, because I used to wear a pentacle ring. Unfortunately, it was actually at toe ring I wore on my finger, and one day I lost it when I hit my hand on a fence and it literally flew off. Going to buy a new one, soon.

Psychedelic Midnight
Personally, I think it'd be quite amusing if people returned to calling Catholics "papists."

*laughs* Ooooh, that wouldn't go over too well with most of my friends. (I went to Catholic school for high school, and I'm currently at a college run by the Jesuit order, so a lot of my friends are Catholic.) I myself have been guilty of using the term "Mormon," but usually I try very hard to get that one right, because I know how upset I would be if someone just mislabled my religion. Religions a pretty personal thing, and to have someone just blatantly mislabel it is annoying. Personally though, I've never really gone through that, but that's probably because I wasn't really raised with a religious background. Now that I want to get baptized Catholic though, I'm starting to notice any and all anti-Catholic stuff that I see, and it's really starting to drive me crazy. I mean, just looking at all those anti-Pope Benedict XVI threads yesterday in the general discussion subforum... I thought I was going to cry, it was getting so bad.
