I've got something interesting. A few months ago my aunt called my house to talk with my grandma. We got into a conversation about something, I don't remember what, and she pauses and asks me, and I quote "Are you gay?" eek I couldn't believe it. I asked her how could she ask me such a thing and she tells me, well, "I saw two girls making out on the train and I thought about you." And that kinda threw me into a loop. I didn't speak to her for a few days after that. She shouldn't have brought it up randomly in a conversation. She assumes just cause I didn't have a boyfriend at the time (which I did, but she didn't know) that I was gay. How messed up is that? I asked her not to long ago, "If I was gay, would you have a problem." And she gave me one of those looks, you know, the kind that parents give their kids when they want to criticize you. And she goes "I really wouldn't have a problem. Its cause since I never heard you say anything about a boyfriend and since you do went to an all girls school, I thought you were gay. It's your choice to like whoever you want, I won't bother you." To this day I'm still miffed at her for bring it out like that. And the fact that she didn't approve of my boyfriend (who she thought was just a friend) being bisexual. What kinda crap is that?

Man, I feel so much better after getting that off my chest smile

That does indeed seem a tad messed up; but at least you now know that she is supportive of you and any desicions that you wish to make, even if they do go slightly against her primary beliefs.

You know, Grandparents always surprise me. They seem to be enshrouded in a "must disagree with everything" stereotype. The fact of the matter is that they are often the most supportive familly members of all, not just for things like orientation, but for anything that's slightly more controversial.

It might be because they've seen alot in their day. And being gay isn't anything new. Just because alot of people were against it then doesnt mean that all were. I mean look at our forefathers. They were some kickass dudes! (or so it seems)

That does seem to be the most logical explanation, the thought kinda crossed my mind too. Yet one must remember that experience wouldn't be the only factor within their ability to accept. To some extent, I feel that the typical streak of rebellion plays a role here.

A couple of generations back, the UK, USA etcetera were all primarilly religious communities. Hence religion would have been considered the norm. That fact alone makes me wonder how many people actually were religious, and therefore how many people would actually have negative issues concerning homosexuality.

Then of course there's things like ones general upbringing, where they were raised etcetera. That too is an extremally important factor, which can often get overlooked.

I was raised in the bible belt, where really you can't go a day without seeing either homosexuals, nonrepublicans, or racial minorities go a day without being lambasted with some new crime. Am I rebelling? Perhaps, but mainly I was, not a few years ago quite homophobic, then one of my better friends came out, and all of a sudden homosexuals weren't the boogyman under your bed that everybody around here makes homosexuals out to be. But that is what you get for being so close to the home base of the KKK.

Basically, every kid here (they start to change around 16) grows up affraid of the LGBT community, affraid of foreigners (all noneuropean ones anyways), and religious republicans. I guess I lost out being an atheist- I was a bad seed to begin with lol.

Also; the only reason America was so danged religious is because we were almost entirely founded by Puritan zealots who were being persecuted everywhere else for being such zealots. And Georgia (who really is the only one that fits this profile) was colony for prisoners; who were usually down right assaulted with religious dogma (because it was thought to help them become rehabilitated).

However, today I do have to say Deism is about the only form of religiousness that still play a part in everyday life and culture (except for lunatic fringe groups); that is the belief that there is a God, but not necessarily anything else.

I'll start off...

Does anyone else have problems with people immediately saying "Why, are you gay?" when it comes up that you care about gay rights?

That happens to me all the time. It's so stupid! Do they think I should be fine with racism just because I'm white? (Yes, I realize there can be racism against whites, but I'm sure you get my point.)
I've gotten that almost every time i've said anything about gay rights, especially in my academic classes at school.
i learned in my first year in highschool why everyone in middle school hated me... they all thought i was gay because two of my close friends were lesbians. it totally sucked hearing that but at least now i know why they hated me... mad
also people think i'm lesbial simply because i am so open to people. i'm just not afraid of going out and doing something crazy...

I never much cared for her either, though whenever I did try to watch porn back in the day, i'd say 6 years ago lol, yes, it's been that long, I couldn't really get into it because I ended up feeling too sorry for the "actors/actresses".

I wouldn't. There's good money in the porn industry, especially gay porn. Did ou know a good chunk of the men in gay porn aren't actually gay? That'as right, a large chunk of themen in gay porn are actually straight. There's very good money in the porn industry... so lnog as it's th reputable studios, anyway.

Though really, I don't find many porn stars that attractive. Their beuty to me is purely superficial, and that's part of the reason I prefer hentai dojin/anime/manga over all other forms of porn: There tens to be some emotions in the characters, even character development, which live-action porn tends to lack.

I've never seen an actual porn vid or whatever...but to me it seems like it would all be stereotypical with the "oo. I love you so much."..... "Yes, me too." all in monotone voices.
It's sad when manga offers more emotional connection than ACTUAL people!
