I got it. Haven't read it yet though. (I have another book to finish first.) Not what I had expected though.

Okay. I finished it. It was funny. Not exactly worth the $13. Did really like the little story at the beginning.

I just picked it up today. ^_^ I'll collect my thoughts on it after I read it over the weekend.
The World is Quiet Here,
RS
Edit: Ok, I finished it this morning. It was nice to get some of the good quotes all together in one place, though I wish he'd have put down where they came from so we could know for certain what was new and what was old. confused But I must say it really does show the strength of Snicket's writing...he can say very poignant and truthful things while making you laugh at the absurdity. I was curious is anyone else though the introduction could be any sort of clue to LS or Beatrice's backstory...since the quotes (all from Snicket's work) are all organized into the same categories as the woman from the intro thought about. Perhaps they're near the island from The End? I was also amused that he continued the "one letter makes a difference" thread from TBL. Anyone else's thoughts?

I didn't see any clues in the book.. But I loved it all the same. It's a completly Snicket-esque (<-- that should be added to the dictionary) book of small algorithms and pieces of advice. I highly reccomend it. whee
Some of my favorites were defenitely
"Perhaps if we saw what was ahead of us, and glimpsed the crimes, follies, and misfortunes that would befall us later on, we would all stay in our mother's wombs, and then there would be nobody in the world but a great number of very fat, very irritated women."
"There are some people who believe that home is where one hangs one's hat, but these people tend to live in closets and on little pegs."

I loved the pregnant women quote too. ^_^;; I also always love the lovely one about death from Reptile Room. I loved the advertisements in a bookstore suggesting to give this to grads as an advice book. xd PS Sincere apologies for my LONG absence from the guild, school caught up with me, and now I'm abroad in Cambridge! Quite exciting...I will be on the lookout for VFD in our glorious library. wink

I suppose school is moderately important, after all.

But yeah, got to see many amazing places, lots of Shakespeare related activities, and made some new friends. Yay! ^_^ ...speaking of Snicket, I just realized I haven't gotten a response from him from the letter (in Sebald) that I sent him. neutral Ah well...mayhaps his research has overwhelmed him...or it got intercepted by not so noble volunteers... crying
