If you look at some of the first artworks concerning dragons, they pop up all over the world at about the same time, and all the dragons have:

large, unblinking eyes
scaley or serpentine skin
some use of magic or divine powers
claws and teeth
can talk/ like riddles/ some can write
have a huge impact on the culture's religion

plus, the anatomy of a dragon is not that different from that of a dinosaur.

so.... i rest my case. if they still don't today, then dragons at least existed at some time in history. ROK ON!!!

I agree. I mean yes word can spread by story tellers about things but for multiple cultures to have them look different yet have the same features they were some type of dinosaur or very large lizard that have been killed off in some way shape or form.

But if so, are faries, pixies, sprites, monsers, gremlims and such all real too-people tell stories about them, andI seriuosly doubt they're real.

while i agree that they don't exist (i do believe in dragons mainly because it'd seem that evolution would favor the dragon more than any other creature), fairies, sprites, elves, and the other fae's are supposedly very good at concealing themselves. so, it's kinda open to debate......

I agree with you. There is a lot of debate on that subject. But i do agree with knight, evolution is kind of on the side of dragons.

I doubt it.

howso? it's a lizard/dinosaur thing (we had those, they can exist!) and it's got wings and powerful muscles. granted, the wings would have to be much bigger than most drawings depict, and the bones would have to be super-light, but other than that, there's no real issure with evolutionarily making a dragon.
fire: there's a slew of natural chemicals that are combustive, and a few that when mixed, will spontaneosly ignite. just add a nice strong exhale, and you've got a nice, handy, hot jet of flame from your mouth. (if nothing else, it would work like napalm or greek fire)
ice: again, its not too hard to make an endo-thermic reaction with room-temperature chemicals.
acid: well, the thing could just puke on you. digestive enzymes are quite acidic, and would do nicely to make room for that other tastey treat you saw earlier, but didn't have room for...

I don't know whether or not they truly exist. if you believe in such a thing, they could be in other worlds that havn't been discovered, but they do exist in our imagination.

I think somebody already said most of this, but I'm gonna say it again anyway!

It only makes sense that Dragons existed at some point. Virtually every culture has some sort of record of dragons, either in stories or pictures, and most of them NEVER MET. All those people must have seen something to write all those tales and paint all those pictures.

Also, there is a beetle called the Bombardier beetle that mixes chemicals in its abdomen to create a chemical reaction that produces something similar to fire. It then sprays it out at enemies and either blinds or kills them...usually kill because the thing as amazing aim. Here's the link, cause it's kinda complicated. Wikipedia has the best explanation I could find...I checked other sites and they were a bit too scientific for my little brain. redface Bombardier Beetle Website

And if you check it out, the T-Rex skull has extra holes and such in its skull that are just kinda there for no apparent reason...I don't think it's that far of a stretch that Dragons did exist at some point. May sound a lot like the Reign of Fire movie, but I have researched this stuff and it is all true and rather plausable (sp?) in my opinion. You can Google Image it if you want.

But I gotta ask, who says the government is looking for dragons? I'm sure they have better things to do than look for a creature that may or may not exist. Like the war.

I agree that there are places where humans don't go and it is entirely possible--if not probable--that dragons are still alive...but I think I just contradicted myself...that's what happens when you stay up all night and then go to class all day. My brain is kinda mushy. Is that bad??? confused rolleyes

Think about it-what are the chances of the government letting something like that roam around so that any country has access to it?

The government suits are most likely not the type to believe in dragons. I doubt that has even occurred to them! Besides, I imagine that if dragons did suddenly appear, their first act wouldn't be to choose a government to side with...lol...the word "food" comes to mind for some reason...

What I mean is they wouldn't want something like dragons (if they exist) to be controlled by anyone else.

Just because we dont have remains or a living creature does not mean they never existed. I mean look at it this way we have the bible and scrolls writen by people about things that happend and everyone believes in god and all the apostals*spelling*. we believe in angels and demons, hell and heaven. noa's ark and the great flood. david and golieth*spelling* yet all we have are paintings and words by humans. And people are dying in the name of their god/gods and model a life as close to perfect to have a chance to meet them in the after life. yet not a lot of people ask if they really existed. So yeah i dunno if you get my point off of this or not and sorry if i offended any of you. But we have stories and drawings of dragons so why cant they also be real?
