Silence watched anxiously as the white and black chick brazenly approached H'raik. She stilled her hands' motions and moved to intercept any possible attack H'raik might make. As she had expected, he dropped into a crouch from which he would be able to do easy damage to the chick.

"H'raik," she said warningly, though it was, naturally, to no avail. He only listened to Valour. He merely tolerated her. "Don't."

She watched muscles ripple on H'raik's feline hindquarters as he prepared to spring, and then gasped with fear as Trill darted between Ming-Ming and H'raik, hissing menacingly.

"Trill," she whispered, terrified that she would lose him.

To her surprise, H'raik settled back on his haunches and folded his wings back. They had been half-spread intimidatingly before. He shrugged to rearrange his feathers and make his fur lie flat, and then settled into a sphynx-like position with his talons crossed in front of him. He seemed almost to be smirking.

Silence's heart, meanwhile, pounded in her chest. That had been frighteningly close.

"You have something there, about ferals," she said in a forcedly normal tone. "Their behavior is very different from that of the captive ones."

Trill's fur and feathers were fully fluffed and his eyes were wide and his pupils dialated, and his limbs trembled, but he remained where he stood for several more moments, holding H'raik's gaze. Then he walked, stiff-legged into the older griffin's enclosure to stand by Silence, who knelt and stroked the short feathers on his head.

"That was very brave of you, dearest," she whispered, leading the chick out of the enclosure. "And it was very brave of you, too," she said to Ming-Ming.

What's Seto's problem with Valour? I don't think they've ever met.

He gave up a sudden sigh of relif as he picked up his reckless griffan. "Be careful around adults. If it had of been one that was agressive you woulden't be here." He said to her with a sigh. Then eyeing the two ofther griffan. "I best take my leave." He said as he went to the door breathing shacky.

As he went out he leand on the door with Ming in his arms. "I see a lot of scratches for you in the future." He said as he put her on the ground as they headed back to his room.

She was in a trance as she walked behind Seto. She was shacking also. That griffan was going to turn her to food she thought, then she remeber how Trill had stoped him. She was in a comma like trance

He dosn't have one. He is trying to say that ferals are better.

"Perhaps that would be best. I'm certain Patience would be furious to know I'd let you and your griffin almost get into a scrape with H'raik," Silence agreed.

She followed at a distance carefully calculated to afford Seto and his griffin privacy. Trill still trembled a little as he walked, and his fur and feathers still stood on end. Silence cast a glare over her shoulder at H'raik, who bated, and then ignored her.

In the infirmary, Silence was confronted by Patience, who looked quite as ferocious as H'raik could.

"That young man and his chick are here to recover their strength. What can you have been thinking, having them out of the infirmary. They're shaking, though with exhaustion or something else I shan't know for a bit. I'm hesitant to offer then sedatives, though it would seem they need them."

Silence took the chastisement without complaint. She couldn't help that Seto had followed her, but she might have tried harder to convince him to return to the infimary.

"By the way, Valour wants to see you," Patience said at the end of his tirade.

Somewhat relieved, Silence retreated as quickly as she could while maintaining dignity to meet with Valour.

Ah. I didn't get it. Reading back, I do. Sorry. Also, I'm not going to be able to update on the twenty fifth, but I should be okay after that.

Seto from his side of the door felt bad about her getting in trouble for both of there mistakes. When he heard her left he went out of the room and looking at the floor instead of Patience eyes. "She didn't cause this...Ming-Ming went into a room, I followed trying to get her when I meet a white Griffan...it was going to kill us...but she pulled us out before it punced on us..." He said nervously. He like to keep his emotion to himself but he was still shacken from the griffan.

Ming sat beside her rider with eyes adverted. She could understand that he was trying to look lower-ranked to the adult. She looked away too not knowing she looked guilty with her eyes pointing to the ground.

Patience turned to his patient upon hearing Seto's protestations.

"You think I don't know that? This is my infirmary, and I've made it my business to know everything which occurs. However, Silence, while an incredibly mature and precocious young person, not unlike yourself, has never bourne any real responsibility. She must learn. Trill will need her to be the rational one in the pair."

In truth, the lecture had been meant to chastise Silence, but it was more for Seto's benefit, overhearing. Patience knew exactly how well sound carried through his infirmary, and he knew that the young man would hear his speech and take at least some of it to heart. Seto, too, could stand to learn to exercise some control over his griffin, even if he opted to leave the Eyrie.

"Now, young man, you are either infirm or you are not. If you are not, there are tasks to which you can be put, and I doubt you will like them. If you are, you must return to your bed and stay there. You will not recover from an enforced fast by using up any energy you might have as soon as the calories from your food enter your bloodstream." He directed his grey gaze to Ming-Ming. "That goes for you, too, mistress. Even young griffins can be put to work."

It wasn't quite a lie, though it was certainly a threat. Some young griffins were adept at catching vermin, but mostly there weren't any vermin around to catch. The older griffins usually took care of any stray rodents which attempted to take up residence in the Eyrie, having no tolerance for those things which might pose threats to their offspring, should they ever spawn any.

"And don't worry about her meeting with Valour. He's just assigning her the duties which accompany her new position in the Eyrie. She's in no real trouble."

_____

Silence went to Valour's rooms, where he could usually be found when he wasn't sparring or flying. Fortunately, Sage was not there with him, as she frequently was. It was no secret, the relationship between the two of them, but that didn't mean that Silence was comfortable when they put their affection on public display.

"How's Trill doing, Si?"

"He's fine, as you can see, flight leader."

Valour ran a hand through his shaggy hair in a gesture which could be construed as exhaustion or aggravation, depending on the context. She guessed correctly that it was aggravation.

"Si, you have known me for years. Please don't start using my title now that you're a rider-in-training. Val will suffice, as it always has."

"It doesn't seem appropriate."

"I'm sorry you think so, but I hope you will acquiesce to my wishes. Now, as to your duties. You will, of course, have to care for your griffin, first and foremost, and that is your most important duty. I would think you have a good idea how to do that by now, but if you have any questions, any of the riders will be willing to help you. I would ask Courage, were I you. It will give him something to occupy his time and his thoughts."

Silence personally thought it cruel to remind Courage of his loss thus, particularly with the griffin which had been born as a result of the end of the fight which had killed his griffin, but she kept this to herself. Valour had said any of the riders would help. She needn't bother Courage with her mundanities.

"Second, you will now be on the roster for cleaing the roost , so check that to see what most of your duties are. Additionally, you will attend lessons in arms," he paused to grin. She needed lessons in fighting like she needed a hole in her head, "and in riding a-griffinback." Another grin, that, too, was an area in which she was proficient. "These lessons are mostly for Trill's sake, so he may receive instruction from wiser griffins than he."

Silence smiled and looked fondly at her griffin. Valour's gaze followed hers and he smirked, having seen that doting expression in the faces of many of his riders, though their griffins had all been much older than Trill. He had no way of knowing that he, too, acquired a silly grin when he looked at H'raik, and that he practically glowed with pride for his griffin.

"Get gone, Si. I have work to do, and so do you. If you wish Patience to release you from your duties in the infirmary, you have only to ask, by the way."

"No. I still feel responsible."

Valour rolled his eyes. "Like I said, get gone."

Seto shock his head. "I can be put to work." He said at hearing the threat. He was fine since he threw up now he just wanted to get away from the infarmy.

Then reliseing that he left his sword he went to the coner of the room he had stayed in and grabed it. Then he walked back with it on his side.

As he stood there he figited with getting it to stay in place, it kept sliding out of his over sized belt and cloths. As he finaly got it in place he looked back at paticence.

She cocked her head to the side when heard him talking about her. She made a confuesd chirp. Then she went to cleaning her wings.

Patience smiled in the vaguely infuriating way doctors have, and then said finally, "First, outfit yourself as if people cared about you, because they do, you know. I'll take you to our tailor in the morning. For now, sleep, or I really will issue you a sedative, whether you want one or not."

Sorry it's so short. I'm short on time at the moment.

He went quite at hearing him talk about some one caring about him."No one does, I am along in the world." He said as he walked into his room and closed the door. He sat on his bed looking out the window at the moon. He sighed then went to bed. Forgetting to let Ming in.

Ming sat outside the door with patience. She sat beside his foot with her head cocked to the side. She wonder why she was left out but she just waited for him to come out.

Silence left Valour's room, ducking quickly around a corner to avoid Sage, and without realizing that Valour, who had seen her to the door, lingered in the hall, watching her departure and subsequent odd manuever. She didn't know how much time Valour actually did spend watching her, but if she had, she would have been immeasurably confused by his behavior. Trill noticed, having turned his head to glance behind him on a whim, but there was nothing to be concerned over, he felt.

She returned to the infirmary to find Seto's griffin trapped outside of his room. Trill, inquisitive beast that he was, immediately approached Ming-Ming and chirped a soft question while Silence decided whether it would be prudent to open the door enough to allow the griffin to be with her future rider, of if Seto wanted to be totally alone.

She decided on the latter. It's a rare rider who is not conscious of their griffin's every movement, and rarer still the rider who deliberately separates himself from his griffin, at least at this stage in the chick's life. When they're older it's more common to be separated, at least in terms of quartering the griffin, as griffins are nightmares to keep indoors once they reach the juvenile stage.

Trill, conversing with Ming-Ming, asked where her human was, and why she wasn't with him.

Seto was sleeping when a pang of guilt when he had a vison of Ming. He then woke up to find himself at the door and opening it to find Trill, Silence, and Ming-Ming standing outside his door.

"Sorry Ming-Ming." He said as he watched his little griffan start to walk in then decied to give Trill a question, she made a wondering chirp seeing if he wanted to come in.

Seto looked at her with a sad look. "Sorry...I kind of zoned out..." He said then decided to open the door wide enough so iff she wanted to come in she could.

She made the chirp to show him that she wanted him to come in. She couldn't see anything wrong.

Trill made as if to follow Ming-Ming, but then stopped and looked in askance at Silence. Silence, noticing his direction and intention shrugged. Then she waited for Trill to go in before departing to check to roster for chore duty.

Trill followed Ming-Ming, peering about curiously with his blue eyes. He hopped onto Seto's bed and stalked all around the perimeter, taking care to remain out of Seto's reach. Satisfied, he dropped down and gave Seto's katana a thorough going-over. The weapon's reflective blade, and his own reflection, fascinated him.

Seto watched Trill come in and jump on his bed. He didn't say anything as he sow him staring at his sword he just stood and watched before deciding to take a pillow off the bed and sleep on the floor till Silence came to pick him up. He watched the two griffans from his spot on the floor.

Ming jumped up onto the bed and sat in the middle watching them both walk around the area. She wonderd why he was doing that but just watched. When he sow the katana Ming-Ming walked over and sat next to him looking at her own white reflection for the first time. She was a pure white which made her pure loudly happy to be such a brillant color.

It took Trill several moments to realize that the fawn-colored griffin he saw in the sword's blade was him, but when Ming-Ming came over and he saw her suddenly duplicated in the shiny metal he understood, and began to shift to look at more of himself. This occupied him for several minutes before he tired of it.

He let his eyelids slide low, giving him the appearance of being near slumber. He remained that way for as long as he could stand to, which, with his juvenile mentality, was not a very long time at all. Five or six minutes at the longest. Then, with only a slight twitching in his haunches as warning, he sprung at Ming-Ming. He meant her no harm.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 28, 2006 8:21 am

Seto watched the griffans play fight with each others then see that Ming-Ming was still smaller, she was getting the worst of the play fight.

Ming tryed her hardest to get him in a place she could handle his extra weight. She was however figuring out to push his upper body off with her front legs but not enough to get him off her.

Trill enjoyed play-fighting, he found. It was not exactly a fair fight, but he knew that fairness rarely came into any fight, even at his young age. He had not forgotten how fearsome his own father had looked when about to spring, nor that his father, many times his size, was perfectly willing to annihilate a younger, smaller opponent.

Trill wasn't interested in annihilation. Even if he had been, he was too young to accomplish it. His talons, while wickedly sharp, were at the end of legs which were still developing their muscles, attached to shoulder muscles which were still developing, stimulated by nerves which were still learning their work.

The scuffle was, therefore, needfully short, as Trill hadn't yet the stamina for a sustained battle. Particularly not with someone of his approximate size. For that matter, a particularly vicious cat might have had a better chance than he in a prolonged fight. That same cat could probably best him in a prolonged fight.

Panting from exertion, Trill rolled off of Ming-Ming and crouched a short distance away, his muscles twitching with excitement. That had been fun.
