Blackberry Sage
Americanized lolita is dirty, slutty, and disgusting.

Real lolita is very beautiful and modest. Not slutty or icky at all.

Silly Americans.

I object to that, really. >___< That wasn't very kind.

I was going to make a huge rant, disagreeing with most of the things said on the first two pages, but Boco made a wonderful post and I'm not going to jump in now and start typing like crazy.
I love Lolita, I talk to other people, and inform them about it. Many people in America are very understanding, especially once they're explained to.
Basically, Americans aren't the only "biased" people and there is ignorance everywhere in the world.

It wasn't. neutral I know you probably didn't mean it that way, Blackberry, but I think the last thing you wrote was pretty offensive to us loli in America.

I think Gwen Stefani created the "provocative Lolita" idea over here. It also may connect back to the "naughty maid" or "naughty schoolgirl" look that says in people's heads: "Stripper."

Because of this, Lolita entered the mainstream as something rather unsavoury... this adulterated, sometimes ***** aesthetic that it never should have been.

However, I am quite certain that those who approach the true Lolita aesthetic from the Japanese side, (Music, anime, etc.), are not as likely to see it from the Americanized point of view. We have a number of serious Lolitas in the US, mark my words. And I am sure that we all have experienced some amount of irritability at finding a Hot Topic Lolita dress with bad lace, weak seams, and a skirt that is a third of the acceptable length, but this is also reason to keep to our style and show others what Lolita really and truly is meant to be, despite any bitter remarks we may receive.

Okay guys please remember this is a pg13 site...we will not accept comments that bascially bash others. I am not going to read this whole thread because there are some huuuuge posts here (yay thankyou..).
Look guys, you may not appreciate the country of your origin, my god i'm glad i'm British...In Japan, Lolita is still frowned apon, it's still seen as contraversial fashion there...i can't remember where i saw/read this, but lets just say it's from the horses mouth...
The lolita fashion will never break mainstream, it just wont. Lolita fashion will always be frowned apon by people, just like we frown apon them....don't wear the fashion if you can't handel the stick guys...it takes a lot of guts to go out in lolita gear anywhere..even in Japan (western lolitas aren't always appreciated). I think instead of us lot sitting here bashing others for what they wear, we should just get on with our frilly little lives, and help each other out and encourage people to wear lolita more and in public more often!!
Damn everytime i come online it makes me want to dress up in frills as it makes me so happy to read some of the stuff here and elsewhere. I never wear it out...and i want to..and places like this give me and people like myself confidence to just do it. If there are more negative posts like this, then your just not helping the people who need that confidence boost...

keep it positive guys

and again..boconnotto..thankyou whee

Even loved ones scatter like petals from flowers in my hand. . .

silly Americans.
(( no offense to everyone who is american here thou !! ))

Yeah I've also been troubled with this problem many times before.
Everytime I go lolita in school or at the mall, people keep looking at me in a strange way (( maybe it`s because they haven`t seen a lolita before xD? I dunno.))
;;but I remember one day at school I had gone lolita;; and I heard these bunch of girls whispering `en point at me saying:
" Look, look its a japanese slut !! "
Of coruse I was really offened with what they said, but I was wearing knee high socks, a skrit that went below my knees, `en the shirt I was wearing was also long sleeves too. but;; no headdress because we're not allow to wear anything on our heads at school
I don`t understand how that was 'slutish' in a way =/.

So even if I engraved the meaning that I lived in my hand, the petals will just scatter as flowers of vanity. . .

People like that are weird...they say stupid stuff loud enough for people to hear, then get mad when you correct them and point out that they have shorter skirts... sweatdrop Sometimes I wonder if they have some sort of mental problem, but then I remember most people like that are just dense.

Don't let it bother you though. wink Pity them for their poor, tiny, simple minds that can't seem to tell the difference between a short skirt and a long skirt.

Not the way I would have phrased it, but pretty much a nail on the head....I'll admit I used to like her when she was in No Doubt, but now she's just ridiculous and I can't stand her... stare I had a girl ask me if I liked Gwen Stefani, because of the way I dressed (she did say she thought that because of my clothes, I'm not just assuming. sweatdrop ), and I just looked at her like she was crazy...Thankfully she just laughed instead of getting all offended. She's one of the few exceptionally intelligent people in my school, and she actually listened while I explained Lolita to her. She said she'd never wear it, but that it was definately cute. ^-^

That girl made my entire year. crying My school isn't filled with complete nincompoops after all. (not ENTIRELY anyway...)

I find it hilarious that people think lolita is funny. Erololita is supposed to be Erotic but appearance wise, it's alot less sexual than many other fashions.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 03, 2007 10:53 am

It is really annoying. I was looking at the pictures on LolitaSnap a while ago (I was waiting for my collage teacher.. she was late) and the girl next to me asked "What are you looking at!? Like a porn site or something? That's like SO gross!" =0__o= I was looking at Sweet Lolita and they all looked like a bunch of baby dolls.. As to how that looked like porn is beyond me.. I explained to her what Lolita was .. "Well, I still say it's porn." stressed

SO annoying! GYA!
Okay, I'm done ranting.

I'd like to point out that in Japan, students wears uniforms to school, not lolita styled clothing.
I would not wear lolita to school because I don't care to deal with the negativity that would come with it. School isn't a fashion show (unless you go to that school in Paradise Kiss 4laugh ).
Just my two cents there.

the big problem is the name lolita and the amount of people wearing lolita-inspired stuff so badly... when people who dont know the fashion hear "lolita" they usually think of sexual references involving minors... not cool! and since the mainstream image of lolita is always really skimpy stuff... youve seen the black mini-skirts and corsets with the white lace trim... people think its all about that.

half the people making this bad judgement have seen more of the bad erololi than the knee-length, high-collar modest lolita stuff that we here are all familiar with. some people will accept that, but some people will never get over a pre-fabricated image they have already accepted...

my advice, dont get too bent out of shape of people who dont want to learn. no matter what you wear, even jeans and a t-shirt, people will always have something to say or judge... which is sad. for as many people who have the wrong idea, there are always plenty of us who have the right one... so dont worry about it too much ^_^ hang in there!

I take my GL bibles and my Gosu Rori books to work to look at them. I also show them to my fellow workers, one of them likes looking at them, she thinks the style is really pretty and cute. Today I took my newest GL Bible and my manager was looking though it, he said that the style looks rather pornographic because it looks like something for little girls, but indeed it is a cute style.
