my friend is a homophobe. I'M NOT!!!!! I am totally for gay, bi, and lesbian marraige! not that i am bi, or a lesbian. i just don't see what the big deal is. if they love each other, y should it metter to anyone else?

Isn't it ******** great how you feel the need to reassure us that you aren't a bisexual or lesbian?

I think that any marraige should be legal. Why should people care about other people's business? To me it makes no sense. Whenever I think about people that are strongly against people for their sexuality I think to myself how can they think like that? But I wouldn't know cause I'm not them.

What really pisses me off is when people use the Bible or God as an excuse. Like Butter Balls said the Bible has been misintrepreted many times before. I believe that the Bible was written by some ordinary man and then it turned into a major religion. Somewhere in the bible(I'm not sure of this though) it says that incest is wrong. Well, then, when Adam and Eve had kids they're kids had to screw each other to have kids so that the population would grow, right? Isn't that incest? Hmm....

But anyways,I'm bisexual so I think that any person of any sexuality/race/religion/whatever should be able to marry any other person. It shouldn't matter what gender they are.

So that's my 2 cents. I really like this thread. It's nice to know that there are lots of people here that don't have a problem with homosexuality. 3nodding

In Canada it's 100% legal now. cool
OF course, churches who don't want to perform the marriages don't have to, but those who want to (such as my local Anglican church that I belong to) can go right ahead. 3nodding

Going back to definitions being both a Sociology buff and an English Major (ahem geek) the arguement over the use of the word "marriage" and the term "civil unions" is complete hogwash.

From a pure English definition standpoint. Words' definitions are determined by people using them in the current climate/era/generation in which and are ONLY defined in a dictionary by HOW they are used in society. Webster is not some supreme overlord of language. This is why there are new dictionaries every so often because dictionaries CHANGE when WE change the meanings of the words. They show how language is CURRENTLY USED not how it SHOULD be used. The word "gay" for instance, how many of you use it in regular conversation to mean you are happy these days? If we DECIDE to start using marriage to mean something else it could mean ANYTHING. The whole existence of slang in ALL languages is testament to the fluid and ever changing being of language. We currently use Marriage all the time to mean the combination of things. "The perfect marriage of parmesean and vinegrette."

Now, The whole of Sociology uses THIS definition: "A Social Institution." What is a Social Institution? A social institution is a group of people, organized by status (what they are ) and role (what they do in their status position) in order to achieve some unique goal (each social institution has a unique goal). So in this case Marriage is the social institution of "married people" organized by roles "husband, wife, provider, mother, etc." put together in order to acheive a goal "family, unity, children, love, security."

Here is where I think it gets interesting, WE ENCOURAGE people to become part of social institutions. Especially certain ones, like marriage. Then we go on to exclude certain people from our important social institutions, homosexuals for instance. This creates what Sociologists call Anomie, which leads to higher rates of suicide. Anomie is a condition where norms are not clearly defined, are confused, or unclear. As a society we MAKE ourselves unclear by saying on one hand that MARRIAGE is the ultimate goal of Romantic love and then excluding part of the population to partake. AND the suicide rates of homosexual males and females is higher than the suicide rate of any other individual group of people. Granted Anomie is far from being the ONLY reason a homosexual individual may commit suicide but it doesn't help.

Leaving homosexuals out of an important social institution causes problems. There is no reason either by pure definition standards, or from scientific (sociological) stand point that homosexuals should not be allowed to adopt the title MARRIAGE if we are already going to give them the EXACT same thing under the more hetero-appealing title "Civil Union".

Me, personally, I'm actually MARRIED. I have been for five years. And unless they mean that I have to marry a woman and my husband now has to marry a man as well AS our current marriage I don't see where it is either ANY of my business or any concern to MY PERSONAL MARRIAGE and the "sanctity" of it that other people choose to get married, and use the title marriage.

Im all for homosexuals. heart

And, its not like President Bush can realy ever ban homosexual marriges. Its virtually impossible.

Just because some law says that its banned, doesnt mean that the people will just automatically stop. Homosexuals will continue to be homosexual. The secrets, the lies, the cover-ups, I tell you!

Plus... Just what will the government do if they find someone being homosexual? Arrest them? o_0

I'm for gay marriages and all the type of stuff, only problem is that here in California where I live I believe the Supreme Court, if I remember correctly, that the bill to legalize gay marriages didn't go through because of a few votes it did not get, but from what I know they are planning on trying it again and hopefully it goes through.

Alright. I've been having some questions lately about my sexuality, so I thought this place would be the perfect place to ask, as it is the homosexuality thread.

Put simply, I don't know if I'm a lesbian or bisexual or not. I really like these two girls--I think of them as sisters, but sometimes it seems that I can't get one off my mind. Is it just because she's away and I miss her, or admiration because I look up to her, or is it something else?

I also find anime males sexy, stupid as it sounds. sweatdrop They're just so much sexier than real men. Fantasies are fun.

Sometimes...I just don't know. My eyes sometimes go down to see someone's breasts if they're on TV or something, and sometimes they stay, sometimes they don't. I dunno. It's really weird.

I'm turned on by thoughts of a p***s, but not of a v****a. That could really have something to do with it, too.

I'm all for homosexuality. I think they're great people, and I'm glad they're open about it. But I think that if I was...I couldn't be. I don't know, I don't know anything anymore. I just don't want to think it, but I think I'd be ashamed of myself if I was. ::Blush.:: I'm a bad person.

Anyway, this was more of a rant, than anything. I can see myself kissing guys, but I don't know about girls. It's so weird. Thanks for listening, though...I'd really appreciate answers, too, from homosexuals or not. redface

PS, I don't even know what a crush is, because I don't know if I've ever had one before. Lame, huh? I'm such an adolescent...fourteen in a few months.
