hmmm..this is a very hard issue to discuss without bringing in all of the prejudices and judgements of all races....I think we are taught early on to judge people based on their looks/personality/ etc. because the people we relate to more we tend to get along with. For example you're not going to be friends with somebody who is loud and obnoxious if you are the quiet reserved type and so on. So really everybody plays some part in judgement of others as for stereotypes they are just an over generalization of different races to make the others feel superior.
As for Canadians...I have only been to Canada once and it was a very enjoyable stay since from what I saw it was very much like Alaska, which I love, as for the road trip we were taking not so much. A word of advice don't EVER let your parents decide it would be fun since you are moving to drive from ALaska to Florida, it's two weeks in a fricken car.

Lord of the Azure Sky Well, we also have that very nice stereotype where we get treated much better than americans in most of Europe. I also think that americans have it worse in europe....the bad thing is that i am an american. But with the stereotype issue, people said that if they could move where would they go and i said Canada. Like EVERYONE in my class all said Canada sucks, when i asked why the main answer was: Silence or because they do.....Yeah disregarding my classmate's stupid ignorance, i still want to live in canada (or New Zeland) and will probably move there.

Why do people in the united states call themselves american? Little geograp-hy class: America is the continent regrouping most of the countries on the West side of the earth. Canada, US, Mexico, Guatemala and other latin countries. So why does the US reserve themselves this term and blast canada and abuse economically of the latin american countries? And don't come saying that: Well United Statians is an ugly name. If you don't like your countries name, that's your problem, live with it..its not an excuse

purple richie you forgot the greatest invention /discovery of all time: penniciline....discovered right here in canada...yeah! Did you mean penicillin? The antibiotic? Because that was not discovered in Canada; rather, it was discovered in London by a Scottish scientist named Alexander Fleming.
Let's face it; each country has it's own negative and positive aspects. There will always be someone out there that is annoyed by someone else and will mock them. Stereotyping is ignorant; in my opinion, when someone stereotypes another person it's because they are too lazy to dig deeper and find out the real information for themselves.

When one speaks of the entire landmass, one usually uses the term, 'the Americas', as in North and South America. We call ourselves that because we always have. Whatever else should we call ourselves? Also, I don't quite understand your meaning when you say the United States is economically abusing the Latin American countries. Can you please extrapolate? I'd like more information on this 'blasting' of Canada that you have referred to as well.

Blood`Eternity I think we stereotype Canadians the same way people stereotype Americans.
For instance, I am an American I look around me and see, mostly stupid people.. A lot of other countries believe Americans are all a bunch of stereotyping, ignorant fools who would follow anyone.
A lot of Americans think that Canadians are a bunch of extremo-nationalist copycat Americans who cant play Hockey worth a s**t but pretend like its there sport anyway. The reason we think this is because of those we often see who either claim to be Canadian or are Canadian, often times the worst half of something sticks out like a sore thumb and so everyone quickly writes down what they see and is off to go tell the world, this is why there is a bunch of laughs about Canada. The Extremo-Nationalist Canadians yell about how great a country they have, but in reality the country itself hasnt done to much and what it has done is clouded by the shadow America casts over it, because lets face it a lot of people in the world consider Canada to just be the missing half of America, and a lot of Canadian providences want to become a part of America, or two; one is Quebec and I dont know what the other one is. Another thing people often laugh about is the fact that Canadians didnt win its independance, it was given to them, they didnt pour their blood and fight for their lives they complained and cried until Europe got annoyed enough to cut the leash, of course some consider this a good thing; people who believe war doesnt solve anything... oh and the most notable problem with Canada that people see is that in some providences it is required that all signs contain French warnings and notices before English, also some schools in Canada teach in French and not in English and they take more care in the French language in schooling systems, why is this so wrong? Because English is the universal language, even Japanese and Chinese people learn English equally or greater than they learn their own languages because it is the key to success on the global level.
All in all I think your just noticing those who think Canada is lame and who like to b***h about Canada, there is plenty of people in the world who either dont think about Canada, love canada, or just think its an okay country that has atleast not done to much wrong.
But how you are complaining or asking now, I could do the same with America, but I know the answer already.. my asking would be.
asking Why does everyone b***h about the problems America has, why is everyone pointing out our mistakes all the time and laughing at our citizens and calling us corrupt, etc..
Short answer: We have become the world police since WWII and we sit in the spotlight, when we mess up it matters most because we are the police. Kind of like if a police officer murdered someone it would be all over the news the next day, but if a thug murders someone its just a [oh whatever], because the thug has no name to live up to.. and of course the thug would be hostile countries like North Korea, the Police would be the protectors primarily America and following up with Great Britian and until the late 20th century France. As for the rest of the countries, they would be the Middle-class male or female, no one expects them to do anything and so no one really watchs them; they usually dont make big mistakes because they arent charged with big responsibility.
Oh and dont take this the wrong way, I am not some loser who thinks America is the best, I think America has its share of problems just like the rest of the world, especially in our educational system and our government isnt doing to well either.. I think what has set us apart from the world in past centuries has been the fact that we are melting pot, every person from every nation goes to our country and together they work towards a better life, sure raciscm, sexism and close-minded bigiting assholes have stepped on the road but the people have always found a way around it, I think that is what has made America such an interesting country in past centuries; at the moment I think we are beginning to lose it, but I also hope that eventually the people will have cleared minds and it will be re-kindled, anyway, longggg post.. I am done. I live in Canada, and Quebec doesn't want to be a part of America. It wants to be Its own country. That's why Quebec has seperatists. Get your facts straight before you rant.

I think that, especially with interaction over the internet I've noticed that you can't really tell between most Canadians and Americans or even the British people apart. So I think a lot of our differences are merging.
