Azalia held her breath and listened very carefully to the confrontion between Ismeine and the other girl. She heard something move, and from the sound knew it was big, whatever it was. A deer would be sleeping this time of night, so it had to be a person or a wolf. She turned around, but it had become rather dark, and whatever it was had stopped moving. She strained her eyes, but couldn't see anything but the trees.

Affronted, Ismeine dropped her arms to cross them over her chest. "I beg your pardon," she retorted. "This is MY forest, I've been exploring it since I was a little girl, and I think I've a right to be curious about invaders of said forest!"

Merewyn almost groaned out loud at her sister's outburst. Ismeine's possessive nature was shining through, and the last thing Merewyn wished to witness was a fight over whose forest it was. God help her, she prayed.

Laurence froze as one of the servants looked directly at him. Hardly daring to breathe, he stood very still and prayed she would look away.

Azalia turned back around at Ismeine's "my forest" comment. She felt a bit of resentment at it. She wasn't the only one who used it, and she didn't live there like the animals. But Azalia supposed that the princess had more claim to it than almost everybody, especially Azalia, who had almost no real possesions of her own, and nothing of value except for her clothes and shoes.

Scarlet looked away from where she had heard the noise and turned her attention back to Ismeine and her current situation. But, a lady, although armed, would not usually be found sleeping alone, so there had to be others around, hadn't there? Scarlet wished her mind would stop, but she felt uneasy. She looked around once more, but still saw nothing.

((Really? The time I usually see them is mid-afternoon, a bunch of 'em out in a feild. There's been two or three times I've seen one at dusk, but that's it. I'd put in something, but I can't really say anything right now, so I'll wait.))

"YOUR forest? That's a pretty big claim." Ame said, trying to restrain her scathing tone. "I believe this forest belongs to no one except the God who created it, and the animals that reside in it. It is no one's possession" she snapped, getting frustrated with the girl. She got grumpy when she didn't get enough sleep, and right now, she really didn't have enough sleep to handle this without getting angry.

"My fath...," Ismeine trailed off. She could not use her father to claim the forest; first of all, the knight thought she was simply a maid, and secondly, the forest was no man's land.

"That is... that is beside the point," she stuttered, flustered. "I have explained what I am doing here, now it is your turn."

((Sorry... there's not much for the other characters to do right now but wait. stressed We'll try to wrap up the argument soon.))

"I...don't exactly know what we're doing tramping about in this forest..." Ame admitted ruefully, her bitter edge receding a bit. "No one really gave a very good explanation, and I can't remember much..." Just all of these stupid men and their comments... She sighed. "Won't Masione be missing a maid of their castle this late at night?" she inquired.

"Of course not," she said quickly. "I am a... kitchen maid. No need for kitchen maids after the evening meal." She paused. "Are there more of you, then? From Jahrr?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 10, 2006 7:04 pm

"So...do all maids just wander about when not needed?" Ame said scathingly. She wasn't scared this time, but truly angry. "And who says that I can't be here on my own? I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself without anyone else." She was, once again, defending herself against the weaknesses of her sex, although the girl made no reference to her being a woman.

Whoever this girl was, Azalia had a certain fondness for her. She actually stood up for herself, which could get you in a lot of trouble. Azalia knew she could never get away with being that outspoken. Her job required perfect obedience. She wished she could tell everyone she could take care of herself, but she knew no man would listen to any of it, and she'd just be punished for being mouthy.

Ismeine blinked in surprise at the girl's outburst, then let out a short bark of laughter. "I was merely basing my assumption on your use of a plural pronoun. You said, 'I don't know what we're doing." She was not certain what it was, but she found something about the miscommunication to be incredibly humorous. Knowing the other woman was angry, Ismeine tried to stifle her laughter, but it flowed out of her faster than it had in a very long time until she had to use a nearby tree to hold her balance.

Merewyn giggled quietly from where she was. Two things could come out of such a situation: The women would become either great friends or mortal enemies. Their bold demeanors were very similar. But she's from Jahrr. Suddenly, Merewyn grew somber. Ismeine was here in the forest, weak with laughter in front of a Jahrran knight. The situation was dangerous.

Laurence was thinking along the same lines, silently laughing along with Ismeine at Ame's mistake. Lord, have You finally provided a friend for our dame?

But unlike Merewyn, Laurence saw no problem with a friendship between the two. The other woman was merely a maid at Maisone; surely no one would miss her if she left. And if she pledged her allegiance to Jahrr, the genial king would have no problem with her working at their castle. The knight absentmindedly rubbed the stubble on his chin, pondering.

Scarlet listened and giggled quietly about the miscommunication. She was growing restless and a breeze stirred her desire to move about. A howl in the distance was kind-of an eerie sound, but Scarlet just smiled to herself, she loved it when the animals called to one another. Scarlet shifted in place, ready to do something.

Ame scowled at the girl, annoyed. She didn't find what she said particularly funny, but that was probably was because she was exhausted. "Why can't the plural pronoun mean me and my horse?" she asked when the maid finally stopped laughing. Without waiting for an answer, she said, "I'd appreciate it if you'd leave now. I DO need to sleep."

"I'd say" Scarlet said accidentally aloud. She clamped her hand to her mouth and hoped that the others hadn't heard her. Oh please, oh please don't have heard me she said to herself. She winced and waited to see if anyone had heard.
