"Hey, you're better off than I am," Sid said, some of his good cheer fading. She didn't have teeth like his and she had her youth, but he didn't want to actually say either of those. It was probably obvious anyway.

The lizard frowned and walked over, her claws clicking on the hard surface of the cafeteria floor. She patted his shoulder. "You've got awhile, you're still mostly human." She tried to give him a reassuring smile before walking off towards the dropoff, her long tail dragging across the ground behind her.
"I'll see ya around."

"Yeah," Sid said. He tried to smile, but it never worked out well. "See ya."
To watch her go would have meant risking a crick in his neck, so instead he finished eating.
