Riv "waded" in, meaning he simply let himself float along the sand instead of along the actual surface of the water. His ribbons didn't feel the cold, of course, but Riv could feel them getting heavy from their soaking up the liquid. It was an intriguing sensation. The Frei grinned. "Fun," he said, looking over at Zave and splashing him a bit, reaching down with a hand to slap at the waves.
Bolstered, and adventurous, Riv moved further in, laughing happily. The water climbed along his ribbons, dragging them under and behind him in a long red trail. Deeper, a few more "steps", and then his rune touched the water.
The cold sent a shock through Riv's body, as though sapping the energy out of him. He lost strength and faltered in his floating, falling into the water completely! He immediately got up, inhaling sharply, teeth chattering, face pale, rune dimmer. "Gah!" he exclaimed as he exhaled, and he scrambled to get out of the water, falling once in a while, using his arms to grab at the air until he reached the sand again.
There he just stayed on the sand, where it was warm from the sunshine already. He brought his ribbons out of the ocean and wrung the cold water out of them quickly. "C-c-c-cold! Hahh, BAD! I h-h-h-HATE it! I n-need w-w-warmth!"
Aph, who had been watching quietly from far away, at Tsu's side, yelped when Riv fell in, and began to run towards his charge.

Tsu was also running forward. Knowing that the soul was of a scorpion, the cold really was not going to be good for the young raevan. Grabbing off his jacket, he went to wrap it around the frei and make sure that he got warmth into him.
"Riv, are you going to be okay? You need to stick with us." Zave's voice seemed to come floating from far away, but in reality he was trying to use the material to rub warmth back into his friend as well.
"Don't worry, Aph. We'll make sure that Rivener is going to be fine."
"I should have gotten to him sooner. I knew that it would be cold and so didn't want to wade in as far as he was going. Should have told him how cold it would be."
"Some things people need to learn for themselves, at least he had enough common sense to get out quickly."
"That's true. Riv? RIV! Aph, don't you go too!"

Rivener blinked and chattered his teeth, but the warmth from the jacket was already seeping into him. His rune was already getting back some of its light; he hadn't been in the water long enough to do some serious damage... Riv looked around at the concerned people and focused on Zave. "Z-zavier, don't b-blame yours-s-s-self... I woudln't h-h-have listened to you a-a-a-nyway." He chuckled uneasily.
Aphismet fretted nearby, wanting to help but knowing that he had no more room to do anything. The other two were already taking up all the space, rubbing warmth back into his Raevan. "I, I'm not going anywhere!" he replied to Zave's prompting. "Is there anything I c-can do?"

"Aph, why don't you come over here and continue rubbing for me? I'll stand by and talk to Rivener, but my hands aren't completely dry and it might add less warmth." Zave decided. He didn't want to leave his friend's side, but it was important that Riv and Aph worked together well.
Tsu was there showing Aph how to dry off his raevan, meanwhile Zave was sitting there quietly thinking a little. "You're right... I shouldn't blame myself. I TOLD you it was cold. I blame you for putting yourself at risk. Didn't you realize I'd feel horrible if you were hurt in any way?" Zave was near seething, but it was out of concern for his new friend. "I'd be hurt if I made a friend in you and you'd leave just like that."

Aph nodded and knelt, taking his place at Riv's side, rubbing the jacketas Tsu instructed.
Riv suddenly felt irritated by it, and smacked Aph's hands away repeatedly, until he simply sneered and got up, floating away with the jacket pulled around himself. He didn't want to be touched anymore, he was feeling ok now.
The Frei blinked at Zave and frowned lightly. "Lighten up, Zave, jeez. You act like you're an adult, but you're not. Have some fun once in a while! What's the point of being young if you don't get into trouble and break an arm jumping off a barn once in a while?" He mentioned things he saw on TV all the time. "I knew it was cold, but there was no way for me to know it would be THAT cold. I only had to go in and see for myself." Riv pouted. "I'm sorry I worried you and all, but I'm not going to stop trying things every time it would worry someone."
He was a little huffy from being berated by someone he just met.
Aph dropped his hands and looked over at Tsu sheepishly, as though to say "see?" at Riv's reaction to him touching the jacket.

Zave just heaved a sigh and regained his composure. "I'm sorry... I just felt... I don't know. It's not anyone's fault and I'm not an adult." Zave fumbled for the words and nothing would come. "Finish that castle if you want... I'm going..."
With that Zave floated off away from the rest of the group. He was tired already and just wanted to be alone to think. Why would he care for someone he just met? Why did he have to get so involved with everything? He didn't know what any of it met.
Tsu looked between the others and couldn't help but pinch the nerves between the eyes. This check up had seemed promising, but it was quickly deteriorating after that whole mess. Brushing the sand off his pants, Tsu just said, "Well if you're alright Riv, maybe we should sit down for a bite and a drink? I'm feeling kinda parched."
Grabbing Aph before he could protest, Tsu dragged the other off to a nearby beach house.

Aphismet had indeed been about to protest, but ended up being tugged along without saying anything, all the way to the beach house. Once he finally stopped being dragged forward, he straightened his jacket and spoke.
"Um, why are we running away from them? Zavier seems a little upset, and is Rivener really okay?" The guardian gave his charge a worried glance.
Rivener, on the other hand, was watching Zave float away with a frown of confusion on his face. Why was the other acting so strangely? "What's the matter?" he called after the other, not moving anywhere himself.
Zave seemed to be in his own thoughts, however, and didn't seem to have heard Riv's call. Shrugging, figuring that Zavier would come back when he was ready, Riv headed back for the castle. A nice long sit in the sun-soaked sand should do wonders for his core temperature, anyway.
Shedding the jacket when he was near the castle, Riv "knelt" and got back to work, digging up some new moist sand and beginning to forge the last tower out of it.

Tsu just gave a glance over to Aph and said "The frustration shown? He does seem to be agitated about something, and it's probably not you. Although I don't know what's going on with my own raevan and his behaviour... it sounds like something the two of them need to work out. Remember, things were going fine when they were talking and focusing on the castle. Now, let me at least buy you some refreshments after dragging you all the way over here."
He's just a friend, and I'm concerned for him in that way Zave told himself. I shouldn't control him or berate him for trying new things. That's not how friends act. Finally composing himself, he straightened out the tangles of his hair a little and went back to the castle.
"Sorry for that outburst before" The raevan apologized as he helped to dig up some more of the wet sand, "You're right to say that it's more fun experiencing new things rather than living trapped in what's safe and known all the time. I guess... I just snapped because the thought of you being hurt or gone scared me a little."
Trying to manage a weak smile, which turned into more of a wince, Zave said "I guess... I still am a little unsure how to act around other raevans. Even staying around the labs, I don't run into very many of the raevans. In fact, I believe you're the third one. Laz... Roux... you... Yep. Third."

Aph smiled sheepishly at Tsu. "Y-you don't have to do that, but um... Well, I am kinda thirsty... I-if it's not too much t-trouble." He bowed his head in thanks and followed the good doctor.
Rivener looked up as Zave came back, just as he'd thought, although faster than expected. He seemed to have worked out his inner issues quickly! Riv smiled as the other spoke his concerns.
"It's alright, you were concerned. That's very flattering, and makes me feel very liked." He nodded as he kept forming the last tower. It was coming along very nicely!
"I suppose the way you're acting is a result of the people who raise you. Since Tsu is the doctor who is supposed to check up on, and take care of, all the Raevans, he must have rubbed off on you. So you feel kinda responsible for everyone, just like he probably does." Rivener theorized as he pushed up the sand with the piece of wood, patting in the last tower wall. "There, ready for decoration." He put down the tool and started reaching for the glittery stuff, smiling over at Zave. "You wanna decorate it too?" He handed a piece of glass to the blue Frei.
"The only reason I saw most of the Raevans, is that there was that party once... I saw a bunch, although I didn't meet them all. But, when I think about it, I DO know quite a few. Vyn, Gage, Roux, Laz, Sevilin... Five. I think that's it. And from afar I saw a girl with blond hair and roses, and a guy with white hair in long locks in the front. I never spoke to them, nor do I know their names... That's it."

Finding an empty table at the beach shack, Tsu urged Aph to sit down and take a look at the menu. "Well... payday happened not too long ago, so it's not a problem. Choose something you'd like." He was feeling in a good mood, and Aph seemed to be better about parenting than before after all.
"There was a party before? So there are quite a few more of us out there than the handful I've met. Sort of makes me wonder what they're all like" Zavier said in awe that Rivener was much more experienced than him in the rest of the raevans. He picked up the piece of sea glass that Riv offered him with a smile and said simply, "Thanks."
The two worked together to decorate the last of the tower, and finishing up took a couple steps back to admire their handiwork. "It's really well built. I'll have to try and make more sand castles the next time I come to the beach. I don't know if it's because of Tsu or not... but that might be the case. Something just makes me feel sick inside when the raevans are upset or hurt. It's odd, I don't even know some and care for them a little."
The sun was still fairly high up in the sky and Zave wanted to spend a little more time with Rivener, but activities were definitely running low. "Shall we try and find one of those shells that you can hear the ocean in? The tide has gone down again, so it shouldn't be that bad."

Aph selected a simple beer, and smiled in thanks, opening up with the smile a bit more than he normally did. "Thanks a lot," he said, using the familiar form instead of the formal thank you that usually came to his lips. He then walked over to a table and sat, where they could both keep an eye on the Raevans.
Rivener nodded. "There was a party, yeah. It wasn't very fun. Mostly it was about chasing people around, the place was so big, and everyone was going in different places so we didn't have time to play any games or anything like that." He shrugged. "It was ok anyway. As for what they're all like, well, it's better for you to discover yourself." Riv smirked mischieviously.
When Zave floated back to examine their handiwork, Riv followed. He looked at the castle critically. "Looks nice! We don't even need that circular wall around it, don't you think? It's good just how it is." He nodded. "And you," he added, turning to face the other Raevan with a friendly smirk, "might be too nice for your own good." He was referring to Zave's caring for everyone.
The finding a giant seashell idea was good, but Riv made a face at the thought of going back anywhere near the cold water. "Are you sure it'll be safe? I don't wanna get cold again."

Tsu ordered his own beer and sat down at the same table. "Not a prob" He was finally able to relax a little. The formalities had always been something he hadn't been good at.
Zave noted the rather odd smirk and decided to ignore it for the time being. "Running around chasing the others just sounds more like a headache than anything else." He finally said, Although it would have been nice to mee the others, I guess it'll just have to wait for another time. After all, I do tend to meet a lot of them working at the labs."
"Yeah! It looks great without that circular wall. A wizard would enjoy living in this castle just the way it is." Zave agreed enthusiastically. He just hoped he didn't sound bored with sand castles... since he wasn't. Although he did turn a little red at the others' comment on how he cared for others.
"It should be fine, but we can search the area a little bit further away from the water. The one thing is we probably won't find as many shells when we get too far from the ocean. Much less ones that'll have the sound in there." Zave noted. He understood his friend's concern though. Let's at least give that area a try first. I'm not too thrilled about getting cold in the water again after all.

Rivener smiled and nodded. "Alright, I'd really rather not get close to the water again... If we don't find any, then too bad. I guess it wasn't our time to find one." The Raevan began floating to the shore, and searching for the shells.
Aphismet watched Riv and Zave go towards the water again, and he almost stood. "Erm, are they..." He watched tensely, wondering why the two Raevans would be trying that again... surely they had more sense than that!

Tsu lazily looked out one of the windows as he sipped on his beer. "There's no way they'd be that stupid. They clearly have more common sense than to go back out into the water." Instead of worrying about the charges, he instead turned back around and looked at the clock. "I'd hate to have to cut their play date short, but I'm afraid we'll have to get heading out soon." Tsu said. He had almost forgotten his other waiting appointment, and didn't to make people wait for him.
Zave floated behind Rivener combing the ground cautiously. Most of the shells that were out here had been shattered into tiny shards by people too careless to notice where they walked. "Sounds fair to me about the shells. We'll find one eventually... and so if it's not today, then there's another chance later on." The combing the area was a little strenuous and time consuming "Any luck over there?" Zave asked hopefully as he collected another piece of the smooth sea glass that was blasted a nice light blue color.

Rivener had headed in the other direction, and was looking through the sand carefully, sometimes digging up bits of shell, hoping they were the tip of the iceberg hidden underneath... But nothing revealed itself a treasure.
"Nooo, I don't see anything here. Lots of little pieces." He straightened and looked out into the water longingly, but knew better than to try wading in again. With a dissapointed face, Riv turned and headed back to his friend. "Well, I guess we'll have to try again some other time." He smiled. Something caught his eye, by the beach house. "I think they're calling us," he said.
Aphismet had finished his beer quickly, and nodded. "Oh, we wouldn't want to hold you up. Thank you for letting us stay so long. Overall, I think Riv had a good time," he concluded with a subtle smile.
Standing, Aph waved to his Raevan, until he saw the Scorpion Frei look up and take notice.
