My band only has one trombone (well, three, but two only play trombone for jazz band)... luckily we're getting an influx next year, I think we've got like four freshman trombones coming in next year.
I think bass clarinet is our most endangered off that list. We've got one but she sucks and she hardly shows up for band ever. We might be getting one next year, though.
We've got two baris and a few coming in next year. We've got a french horn, who came last year; before him we hadn't had french horns in like two or three years. I don't know what our french horn situation looks like for next year.
Right now our most endangered instrument period is oboe. Our oboist (who was AWESOME) graduated last year and we haven't gotten a new one yet. I think there's only one in the area, and she's only in sixth or seventh grade. Argh. I have no idea when we'll get another.

Wow. eek All these endangered instruments. Our band is doing fairly well. Our concert band has 7 trombones, 2 tubas, 1 baritone, 1 french horn, and 3 bass clarinets. I guess we're low on french horns. Our other one is in Wind Ensemble. (BTW. Concert band has about 80 members all together.)

Band is gonna suck next year. We have one oboe, we have one bari and tenor sax both graduating next year, one basson, one piccolo who is graduating next year, and bass clarient graduated. This isn't a wind, but our only viola graduated, too. We're low on good trumpets, low on tuba, and low on percussionists.

Flosty Gritter So yesterday I went to a band competition to see my soon to be school's band play. While I was there I noticed that out of 11 bands only 5 even had trombones. And to make matters worse the band that got 1st in Kingston's (my soon to be school) division was huge and didn't have ANY. are there any other endangered instruments out there?? I wouldn't say that they're "endangered", because there are a lot of people that play that instrument. I'm even surprised that the french horn is leading the poles, because that's a very common instrument. It may sound biased, but ,from that poll, the bass clarinet is probably the least widely used. Even the bari-sax is thrown into more things. In the end... A band is never really "missing" instruments. A band is a band no matter what instruments are playing in it. They don't really need one particular section to be whole. If that wasn't true, then playing solos wouldn't make any sense, because people would just say that there are instruments missing. You just have to work with what you have sometimes, and or use different istruments to double certain parts. Also, certain sections really don't require several players in it. The tuba section, for example, can be fine with two or three. Heck, even one can cut it, granted that they have the "power" to do so. Our trombone section is made up of three players (two tenor trombones and one bass tromebone), and they still sound awesome. It isn't always the lower instruments, though. Having like ten piccolos wouldn't work out to well, because they are really high-pitched and are able to peirce through the band's whole sound very easily.

I like trombones. I'm going to learn how to play one for brass class. I'm rather excited.

Well im in college now so i dont know if it applies, but the dean of the music school is a trombone player, and there are about 12 trombonists. Although im pretty sure there is only one bari sax in whole school, and about two baritones. So im pretty sure the trombones are not gonna go extinct any time soon.

Next year we'll only have one baritone and one mellophone. Unless someone switches (we have 4 trombones, myself being one. one of them may switch to baritone.) that's how it will be. Someone really should switch to mellophone though. I wouldn't be allowed to (I'm the lead trombone.) but I play mello. I could.
We only have 1 bass clarinet, and she doesn't play. The only other person in the band who plays bass clarinet is our lead clarinet. And we only have 2 tenor saxes (they both put out sound though. They're good.). We only have 1 picc... but she is really, REALLY good at piccolo. When she graduates after next season, the flute section will fall apart.

So, i will list our band quantities by our whole band. I might be off a bit. Also, I will put what we are losing next eyar and what we are losing this year. i can do both because we only have 4 people graduating next year
Flutes: 6 7 for concert (1 graduating this year, another next year)
Clarinets: 10 8 for marching (1 this year. Only 2 are sophomores, including me. everyone else is freshman.)
Alto saxes: 4 2.5 marching (3 graduating this year0.o One was our dm for three years, another was our third dm who only conducted when we faced backfield, hence the .5, because he did march and play with us about half the show)
Tenor Saxes: 3 (1 graduating this year, 1 next year)
Bari Saxes: 2 1 for concert season (Year round one is graduating this year)
Bass Clarinet: 1 for concert
Horns: 3 2 for concert (1 graduating this year, 1 next year)
Trumpets(oh dear. I hope I have enough fingerso.0 Oh, barelyXD): 9 (2 graduating. The only good ones too...)
Trombones: "0" marching 5 concert(estimate) (1 graduating. My school doesn't march trombones, so tbone players play tbone parts on marching baris)
Baritones: 8 4 concert (1 graduating. again, marching season is larger because technically our tbones are baris.)
Tubas/sousas: 5 sousas 4 tubas (3 graduating. The annoying giggle trio though, so they wo't be missed too much.)
Oboe: 1 for concert (Freshman. Hopefully it will be two though. AKA, I am trying to ask my bd to play oboe in second hour abdn, the lower one. I'm currently playing second clarient because he freshman are stinging. Speaking of which, i am the only non-freshman clarient in that class.) This is the first oboe my bd has had in the band at our school. 6 years oboeless.
Basoon: 1 (Freshman. another first.)
So, our safe instruments: Trumpet(though they will suck next year) Clarinets(lplus we are getting almost 5 more0.o) Fltes
Could use some help(Have one or two who will be there a while): Oboe Basoon tenor saxes Horn
Endangered: Alto saxes Bari saxes
