Chailyn joins Donny's Harem of Looove~ Anemone and Chailyn had returned to the stationary shop. Ane was curious to say the least, Chailyn was just happy to be going out on an adventure. As soon as she was put down, she began to toddle around the shop.
"Careful, Chailyn," Ane said softly. She was nervous about being in the shop when it seemed empty. Though the sign said open, and the door was unlocked.
Chailyn tilted her head looking back at her mother. She had wanted to ask a question but the window caught her attention. The sunlight hitting the glass was intriguing as she toddled forth.
How curious that the new Tale would look out the window at that moment. The glare of sunlight would be blotted out for a moment by some large shape in the air, that quickly sped toward the shop itself, looking as if was headed into a crash collision. The closer it got, the easier it was to make out it's shape - that of a wide winged horse of a deep blue color. It didn't seem like the biggest of horses, though one could hardly tell it's real size due to it's distance. In fact, it seemed to have arrived quicker than one might imagine, showing it to be the size of a pony, despite it's flamboyant markings and mature stature.
The Pegasi landed gracefully right beside the window, leaving the clomping sounds of it's hooves against the pavement to filter muffled through the pane. Only after it had landed could one see that on the winged horse sat a winged boy, though that was all they had in common. Adonis kept his wings firmly tucked around him until they had landed safely, at which point he reached out and hugged the pegasi around the neck, squealing happily. He loved his new trophy, he did.
Of course, the horse felt the same way about Donny. The shiny boy made a fine show of a pet, and for that sole reason he was allowed to ride Frey.
Donny whispered something to the Pegasi, who trotted in circles in response. It was this movement that gave Donny a glimpse of someone in the window - someone he had never seen before. He blinked and turned his head up, looking down at the girl curiously. His head turned to remain looking down at her even as the Pegasi continued to circle, so that Donny often had to switch the angle of his head. It was obvious he was curious about her.
Chailyn moved closer to the window reaching her hand out to touch the glass. She tilted her head curiously pulling her hand away before trying again to reach out. She made a soft whimper seeing that she couldn't reach out to the boy or the pegasus. That just wasn't fair.
"It's a window, Chailyn," Ane explained moving to stand behind her. She knelt down looking out the window and saw the two arrivals. She noticed Donny first having seen him at the wedding but she hadn't been introduced to him.
"Boy? Horse?" Chailyn asked looking up at her mother and then out the window again. She pushed her hand against the glass slightly harder but found it didn't move. This was getting frustrating. How was she going to meet the boy and horse?
Donny hopped off of Frey and fluttered slowly to the ground beside the window, toddling forward one step and looking up at the girl with her hand on the window. He grinned cockily at her, lifting one hand and placing it on the windowsill in front of hers. It was a cute moment, but one not meant to last too long - for now his curiosity had been peaked, and he was determined to head inside. He shuffled to the door and put both hands on it, pushing with all his might.
Which wasn't very much.
The door budged a little, but hardly enough for him to slip through. Eventually, Frey realized his pet's intentions, and stopped circling in order to canter to the door and nudge it with his muzzle. The door swung open, and before Donny could stop himself he fell tumbling into the shop, and rolled a foot or two before stilling. He ended up sitting upright, thankfully, and looked around.
He had a look on his face that clearly said ''I meant to do that.'' Now where was that girl again?
Chailyn blinked turning to look as he tumbled into the shop. She ignored the soft laugh of her mother moving forward a step. "Boy!" she exclaimed a grin spreading on her face. Purple eyes stared at the boy for a moment, looking back at her mother.
"It's all right. You can say hello," Ane encouraged. She gave a smile at her daughter who nodded in response.
Chailyn promptly dropped to her knees, crawling over to Adonis. She spied his sparkling wings first but dared not touch them the closer she got. They reminded her faintly of her mother's headwings and turned to point at her mother. "Mother has wings," she stated to the other tale.
Donny pushed himself up to stand in front of Chailyn, looking up briefly at Ane and the wings she was pointing at. He remembered that woman, and promptly waved brightly, before turning to Chailyn with a knowing grin.
"Yes yes, but Donny's wings bigger, shinier. Look." He would use any excuse to show off, and this seemed just that. He stretched out his overly large wings - twice the length of his entire height - and flapped them gently. They were so large, that often they hindered him from walking, so he usually kept them tight around his body to compensate the weight.
"Donny can fly too." He informed her. Now that the more important things were out of the way (that being bragging), he moved on to finding out who she was.
"Donny never saw you before. Wha's your name?" He asked, with a less cocky and much softer smile.
"Starry wings," Chailyn started. She smiled broadly looking closely at his wings as they flapped. A small puff of air tickled her face as she wondered what flying was. She thought for a moment unsure of what the word meant.
"Chailyn." She nodded her head as if verifying her name. She looked at him before speaking again, "You Don-nee?" she sounded out. She looked at him curiously, leaning forehead and letting her fingers reach out as tried to reach him. Her attention was pulled away hearing her mother's voice and she toppled forward.
"Oh, Chai-" Ane whispered walking forward. She had started to tell her to be careful but apparently the little girl had found out that gravity and balance didn't always work together.
"Yes, very starry. Lots of stars." He agreed with what he assumed was a compliment, nodding solemnly.
"Chai-leen." He repeated incorrectly, though it was only a slight oversight. "Chaichaichai~." He sing-songed, and pointed to himself. "Yes. Donny." He confirmed, though his eyes strayed toward the hand reaching out for him. Donny didn't mind people touching him, but normally he liked when they asked first. She didn't get far enough for it to matter though, as she soon lost her balance and Donny was quick to catch her in his chubby arms. His expression flooded with worry.
"Chaichai no fall! You okie?" He asked, helping her back up to her feet gingerly.
Chailyn looked up at Donny with her purple eyes, nodding. It took a moment for her to regain her balace and she gave a smile. "Yes, I ooh-key?" she parroted somewhat unsure. She wasn't sure what okie meant but she thought it must be good.
While walking was a grand idea, she just didn't quite understand why leaning forward or backway or anything too much made her fall. It just didn't register. She opened her mouth to say something but lost the thought soon after. Instead she decided to tell the boy what she'd learned.
"I Chailyn, you Donny. Donny have pretty wings of stars. Donny fly. Blue horse has wings. Window bad, no reach Donny!" she stated proudly. She still didn't know what flying was.
"What fly? Fly good? Fly bad? Chailyn fly?" she asked tilting her head.
Donny listened to the girl as she listed off everything that had occurred/been said since he arrived. He blinked slightly, his head cocking for a moment, and waited until she was done to nod slowly. Her final question was a more pressing matter to deal with, however.
His large wings, already extended, bended a bit to flap downward and lift him up into the air, to hover precariously a few feet. Once he was at a decent height, he smiled down at her. "This is flying." He stated quite simply, not at all surprised or amused at her lack of knowledge. After all, he knew nothing until someone told him it, either. There was nothing wrong with that.
"Chaichai no have wings, Donny thinks. Wings help you fly." He hovered slowly downward, and landed on the balls of his feet before tightening his wings around him once more.
Chailyn watched Donny fly up, her eyes wide with awe. She was amazed to say the least. She smiled up at him brightly. He was amazing to be able to do such a thing, he had to be.
She frowned suddenly, hearing his words. She felt removed all of a sudden, like she didn't belong. The horse had wings, Donny had wings, even her mother had wings although they were small. She felt little, like she wasn't as great as Donny was.
"Chailyn no fly," she murmured sadly. She wondered why she didn't have pretty wings. She looked up to Donny and then looked at her mother.
"I don't fly either, Chailyn," Anemone told her daughter walking over and giving her a kiss on the head. She smiled pulling her daughter up to stand on her feet.
The frown disappeared and she smiled at her mother before looking back at Donny.
How sad. Donny was better than Chailyn, but the sadness in her face as she realized this made him regret showing off - for a moment, at least. Then, he had a brilliant idea. He knew it was hard to fly with someone else, (he'd done it once with Armel on his back, and again while holding Dice's hand, and both times the landing was the real problem) but he felt that as long as he was just hovering, he should be safe.
He looked up at Chailyn's mother as she helped Chai to her feet, before looking back down at Chai with a brilliant smile. He took a step forward, and quite nonchalantly put his arms around Chai's waist in a big hug.
"Donny help Chai fly." He stated with assurance, and before anyone could really protest, he flapped his wings and carried Chai up in the air to hover to the height where they were both eye to eye with Ane.
Chailyn giggled as Donny put his arms around her. She smiled brightly as she was brought up to see eye to eye with her mother. She gave a squeal of delight, obviously not afraid of heights. "Chailyn fly. I love Donny," she stated delightfully.
Ane smiled at the two toddlers. She wasn't too worried, since she could easily pluck them from the air if it looked like they were going to fall or get hurt. "Donny, shouldn't one of your parents be here?" she asked the tale curiously. She had thought maybe he had just been followed or they were outside talking to someone familiar but it had been awhile since he'd arrived. She was feeling a little worried.
"I fly!" she sung out giving a bright smile. The sharp feeling of being removed and not as special disappeared leaving her to enjoy the moment.
And rightly so, Donny thought to himself. Soon, soon everyone would love him, and things will be right again. The way they should be.
Donny blinked at his own train of thought. He thought he had understood it, but then he realized the word 'again', and it confused him. Ah well.. to be loved is enough.
"Yes. Then Donny love Chaichaichaichai~" He sing-songed, obviously quite infatuated with how much fun it was to say her name. He looked at Ane as she spoke, and his face flooded red with guilt.
"Frey visited Donny.." He explained, nudging his chin towards the pegasi which waited impatiently out the window, sticking his muzzle against it to watch his pet play. He breathed hard against the glass, and it fogged up in response.
"So Donny brought him here. To show him! Um.. squishee thinks we still in the backyard." He finally admitted sheepishly, biting his tongue to keep from giggling.
"That's not good, Donny. Your parents will be worried if they find out you aren't in the backyard," Ane started. She looked around wondering if there was a phone in the shop they could use to call his parents. She was sure they'd be worried sick if they didn't find him in the backyard.
Chailyn looked to Frey giving a confused look to her mother. "Frey come in?" she asked.
Ane wasn't sure if Frey would be allowed in the shop though she didn't see many reasons why the pegasus wouldn't be. She looked at Frey sympathically but shook her head gently. "We'd have to ask the owners of the shop and since they don't appear to be here right now, I think Frey will have to wait outside," she admitted sadly.
"Yah.. dun think he'd be comfortable in here anyway. He dun' like closed places. He can't fly in them. Not like Donny, small enough to fly inside."
He winced at the idea of calling his parents - though at least that way they'd know where he was! Therefore he didn't argue, he just floated silently downward to the ground, setting Chai on her feet gingerly and holding on until she stood on her own two feet. He then let go and flopped down on his rear on the floor, awaiting judgement.
He could see his father's face now - if, that is, he hadn't already gone out looking for him. Donny felt the sting of guilt at that idea. No.. it hadn't been long enough. Right? Riiight.
Ane held out her left hand to Donny using her right hand to take hold of Chailyn's hand. "Do you know your phone number, Donny?" she asked softly giving a smile. She hated to see him feel guilty and while it was cute the way he seemed so proud of himself, it was not good for a toddler to go out on his own.
"I know it seems silly but you should always tell your parents where you are and make sure it's ok with them. It's good to have an adult around, just in case," she added.
"Daddy and Mommy adults." Chailyn nodded her head in agreement with her mother. She gave a smile at Donny in hopes to cheer him up. She didn't really like the idea of going somewhere without her mother yet, it just seemed like it would be lonely. She didn't really know what the word was for the feeling but she'd felt it ever so slightly when she realized everyone around her at wings in the shop. She didn't like that feeling.
"I'm sure they won't mind if we use the phone to let your parents know your here," Ane mused outloud as she approached the phone. She gently let go of Chailyn's hand, turning to look at Donny. "Do you want to tell your parents?" She didn't figure he would, but she thought she should ask. He might want to defend himself from getting in trouble.
"Donny too pretty to be in trah-bowl!" Chailyn cooed. She smiled at the boy before turning her attention to Frey. "Chai get horse like Frey?" she asked pulling at her mother's pant leg.
"I don't know, Chailyn. Do you want to go browse around the shops later?"
The toddler looked up at her mother and nodded. A shop? What in the world was a shop? She crawled over to Donny looking at him with confusion. "Donny, what shop?"
Donny looked up at Ane after they had walked to the phone, and gave her a wry smile.
"Donny knows numbers! Four.. three.. two.. one!" Ane might have started to dial in the beginning, but after Donny had completed his count down and made a sound similar to an explosion, it was unlikely that she would continue.
Sufficed to say, Donny did not know his own number.
He giggled at Chailyn's comment, snuggling into her happily. "Yes, Donny too pretty to be in trouble." He agreed softly, quite taken with how smart Chai obviously was, for realizing this.
At her question, he bit his tongue in thought. "A shop is a place with stuff. Lots of stuff! Shiny, pretty stuff like Chailyn. Chailyn needs shiny pretty stuff, yes." Of course this new resolve meant he was going to have to pull his father out and buy her something..
..that is, if Nio didn't have his head for running off on his own again
Thankfully, Ane spotted a phonebook nearby. She was grateful she remembered the last name of Nio and Enoh once they had been married. She gave a smile at Donny in reply to his number turning the book to the L section.
"Ooh, shy-nee pretty stuff. Like Donny's wings!" Chailyn squealed in delight. She grinned brightly finding it to be a splendid idea. She could find pretty, shiny things to wear. Then even if she couldn't fly, she'd be pretty like Donny.
"L...L...Love...hmm, here," she murmured to herself finally finding the names Nio and Enoh. She smiled softly tapping her index finger against the page before using her free hand to pick up the receiver. Using her shoulder to cradle the phone against her ear, she slowly dialed the number making sure to hit the right buttons.
The phone didn't ring once, before a flustered man picked it up off the receiver in surprise, only to have it fall out of his hands when he tried to pick it up. Ane would hear a serious of clanks, some muffled yelling, and phone-against-cloth, before Nio finally brought the receiver to his ear and spoke in a voice just a touch more frantic and hopeful than would be expected.
"Hello?!"
Donny giggled at Chailyn's compliment, flailing the wing nearest her back out to wrap around her and pet her head. "Yes." He agreed softly. He doubted that any of the shops would sell things like Frey, however - after all, he hadn't found him at a shop. He found him in a glen. Rather, Frey had found him.
The two still hadn't quite figured out who's pet was who, between them. It would likely remain a neverending struggle.
"Chaichaichai is already very pretty and shiny though." He mused thoughtfully, petting the veil holder atop her head.
"Nio? I'm calling from the stationary shop to let you know Donny is here. Apparently, Frey and him decided to go for a ride. Do you want to talk to him?" Ane explained to him. She was guessing it was Nio at this point in time. It had sounded like Nio from what she remembered.
Chailyn grinned at the compliment. She beamed as the boy petted her hair and veil ornament on her head. She loved being touched and being in contact with people. Whether it was being held, holding someone's hand, being petting, or nuzzling up to someone's warmth didn't matter, she simply loved being touched and being able to touch people. It made her feel real.
"Who is this? Oh God, it doesn't matter, I'll be right there, thank you for letting me know!"
Thankfully, Nio had only just realized the boy wonder and his mighty steed were no longer in the yard, and had only barely begun to hyperventilate when the phone rang. Ane had perfect timing. He grabbed his jacket, hastily wrote up a quick note and left it in the kitchen for Enoh in case she came home while he was out, and headed out the door in a huff, half-running toward the Stationary Store.
He'd been warned once before, and so far he'd been good, but this was the last straw. Now, the child-leash was going to be a permanent part of Donny's new wardrobe.
Donny was all too happy to be affectionate - in fact, it was one of his favorite past times. He felt it was the world's right to be allowed to snuggle him, after all. Of course, that would change one day.. but for now he reveled in his innocent childish acceptance of affection.
"It's A-" Ane had started to reply when Nio hung up the phone. She set the phone down and looked at Adonis and Chailyn. "Your father is on his way," she annouced sure the boy was going to get a lecture. "I think you scared him."
Chailyn looked up at her mother wondering how Donny could have scared someone when he was here. "Donny here, how scare his Daddy?" she asked.
She was suddenly more interested in what Donny's father was like and turned to look at him. "Donny's Daddy nice? My Daddy is angel."
"Yes, he is." Ane was talking about Michael, no Nio though she was sure he was nice. She hadn't really met him. "How is Vidya, Donny?" she asked remembering Aislinn had asked about the blue skinned child earlier that week.
"Vid-ya? Who Vid-ya?" Chailyn asked looking at Donny rather than her mother. She didn't like the idea of not knowing who the person was. Obviously her mother did and Donny did, why didn't she? The earlier feeling of being left out briefly flooded over her while she waited for an answer.
Donny gave a briefly guilty look at the idea of scaring his father, though the guilt did not last long. He brightened at the thought of his father. "Yah, squishee is very nice, he takes care of Donny, he buys stuff and makes things and sometimes he worries too much but ish okay 'cause he loves Donny and serves him well." Donny nodded, proud of how well he had trained his father. He quirked a brow at the last thing he'd heard from her, letting it sink in now. "Chaichaichai's daddy is.. angel?" Donny knew what angels were, oddly enough - but having an angel for a father was.. extraordinary. And it made Donny just a little jealous.
If anyone should have an angel for a father.. it should be him.
The mention of Vidya made him brighten considerably once more. "Viddy! Viddy is Donny's sister! Chaichaichai will meet her soon, she's shiny and pretty like Chaichai and she is the bestest sister ever. Everyone loves Viddy~!" All the more reason why she was a perfect sister for Donny.
"Squishee? Donny's Daddy is Squishee?" she asked slightly confused. What in the world was a squishee? Was that his name or was he made of jello? She shrugged her shoulders slightly. She'd call him Squishee until someone told her otherwise.
"Yes, my Daddy is angel. He no have wings now. He up there," she paused pointing towards the ceiling before pointing to the ground, "and here."
Ane looked at Chailyn with confusion. She hadn't said anything about Michael being an echo. She didn't know if he had told her though she supposed one of the other children could have. She opened her mouth to ask her daughter a question only to be taken from her thoughts.
"Viddy. Love Viddy." Chailyn repeated thinking about the last part. She wasn't sure what to think of that. She wasn't sure what to feel. She'd have to wait until she met the girl.
"Yah, he is." Donny replied proudly, puffing his chest up at the idea of his squishee. That man was the finest servant ever, and Donny was quite proud to have him as his father and total and complete slave to his every whim.
Except for those times when he didn't comply, of course.
Chailyn's explanation of her father utterly confused Donny, but he didn't ask about it. The whole up there down here no wings situation made absolutely no sense to him, but he left it at that, being that his simple childish thought patterns didn't let him think upon it too long.
Of course, the fact that Nio had just arrived bursting through the door in a huff, panting as if he had ran here the entire length (which he had) kept him from worrying too much about anything else other than his own hide.
"DONNY! What were you THINKING?" Nio cried out in exasperation, once he had regained his breath enough to talk. He stumbled in and bent down to his knee in front of his son, giving him a stern look. The glittery little boy just shied his eyes away, looking upward at the ceiling - anything to keep from looking in his father's eyes.
"Donny wanted to show Frey the-"
"Donny promised daddy he would never run away again."
At this, Donny met his fathers eyes. "No run away! Just came to visit the place Donny found squishee! No run away.." He pouted softly, laying it on thick. He knew how to play his father like a fiddle..
..and play it he did. Nio put a hand on his forehead, before looking up at Ane with a grateful smile. "Thanks for calling me and letting me know, I was starting to get seriously worried."
"I was sure you would be. I hope..." Ane started but paused as she looked down. Chailyn had toddled to stand between Nio and Donny.
"Hi Squishee! Donny too pretty for trouble! Donny help Chailyn fly!" she annouced proudly. She figured telling Donny's father about the wonderful things would make him proud of his son. She grinned, her childish innocence completely obvious.
"Chailyn, you'll have to let Nio decide if Donny is in trouble." She smiled apologetically at Nio, "I'm Anemone, by the way."
"Trouble bad. Donny good. Donny no in trouble. Donny not bad. Yes?" she asked looking up at Nio and nodding her head. He couldn't seriously think of being mad at Donny. The boy with starry wings was much too pretty to be mad at.
As if in attempt to win the man over to her point of view she walked over to him, wrapping her arms around whatever she could reach. She looked over at Donny noting his pout and copied it. Her bottom lip quivered as her eyes looked ready to fill with tears.
Ane laughed softly at her daughter, pressing her fingers against her lips in attempt to be quiet. If she had a camera, she would've taken a picture. It was too cute.
Nio looked down at the child that had suddenly popped up between him and his son, blinking in surprise. He had never met this one, but this sounded awfully familiar..
He leaned his head slightly to give his son a quick look over Chailyn's shoulder, before his eyes returned to the girl.
"Too pretty to be in trouble, eh..?" He sighed softly, unwilling to argue over that point. He just stood up straight, carrying Chailyn up with him as she had wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
"We'll see. But no.. Donny's not bad. He just scares daddy a lot sometimes." He finally murmured, and that was that. Looking up at Ane, he gave her a wry smile when she told him her name, obviously under the impression this was the first time they'd met.
And perhaps it was better to keep it that way.
"I remember you." He answered vaguely, if only because he knew she was at the wedding.. and it was enough of an excuse for his knowledge. "So, I see you've joined our little.. ah.. team." He hefted Chailyn up in his arms, and grinned at her. "What's your name?"
Indeed, Ane thought this was the first time they had met. There was an encounter she had tried to put behind her, although she hadn't seen Nio long enough to remember from it.
"Chailyn. Donny says you Squishee." Chailyn replied giving a smile. She was doing her best to work some sort of charm to keep Donny out of trouble. She held on a bit tightly at first but loosened her hold on Nio as she become more comfortable in his grasp.
"Mm, I suppose I have. I don't really understand it, I'm afraid," she admitted with a slight blush. She watched Chailyn carefully as her mind wandered off. She was starting to feel worried and without thinking her headwings popped out.
Chailyn turned her head to see her mother's wings and smiled. "Mother has wings like Donny and Frey!"
"Yes, Donny sure does say I'm squishee a lot. I used to try and get him to call me daddy, but I gave up a long time ago." He gave Donny a wry, almost sad glance, and then looked up at Chailyn, winking at her before setting her down. It was clear her innocent charm had in fact made him forget about why he was mad at Donny, though he would surely remember it when they got home. Speaking of which..
"All right, Donny. You're going to have to get to know Chailyn better another time, because we need to get back home. If you're mother's arrived, she's probably worried sick. Not as sick as I was, but.. still.."
The last thing Nio wanted was to upset Enoh right now. Lately she had seemed just a touch more emotional than usual, but he didn't mind. Especially when they were good emotions.
He held out his hand for the boy, who reluctantly took it. With his free arm Donny reached out and wrapped it around Chailyn's shoulders to give her an awkward angled hug.
"Chaichaichaichaichai~" He chanted, in replacement of a goodbye. After all, it was just such a fun name. Once he began saying it, it was hard to stop.
"I'm sure he'll call you Daddy one day," Anemone replied with a smile. She had thought to say more but didn't think she should keep them any longer. "I hope she's not too worried if she's back. I'm sorry to have kept you both."
Chailyn gave a subtle pout hearing Nio say they had to go. She didn't want her new friend to go so soon. She smiled hugging Donny in return. She was relunctant to let go of the boy with starry wings.
"Donny, no go..." she whimpered.
"You'll see him again, Chailyn," Ane whispered in the girl's ear. Chailyn gave a slight nod letting go of Donny before leaning back against her mother. She sighed turning to bury her face not wanting to see him dragged off.
"She'll be ok. It was nice to meet you both," she said softly. She hoisted the toddler into the air, gently bouncing her to calm her down. She was hesitant to move for the time being, wanting to wait until Chailyn was calmed down.
Donny reluctantly let Chailyn go, giving her a wide grin before bouncing off the ground and fluttering up towards his father, who grinned at Ane's words.
"Nice seeing you. And, congrats." He turned and headed out, assaulted by a large muzzle in his face the moment he had opened the door. Frey reached in his arms and plucked Donny up out of them using his teeth, flinging the boy back onto his back.
"Thank you for collecting him for me."
"Now listen you.. you are not allowed to take my boy out of the backyard anymore, no matter what he tells you. Is that understood?"
Frey didn't respond, he merely neighed in annoyance at the silly man, and turned to fly off back to the house. Nio sighed, rubbing his temple as he began the walk home alone.

Donny and Nio visit the Mysteria Shop - and bring home a sister? Nio Love "But I gooottta goooooo~~!~!"
"Donny, can't you wait just a little-"
"DONNY GO NOW."
"NO NO OKAY DONNY. Okay. I'll find somewhere with a bathroom. Just.. don't.. go. Yet."
Nio had taken his son out for a day on the beach, and spoiled him quite rotten. Ice cream and slushies had kept the boy cooled so that he wouldn't be tempted to go in the water (with wings as big as his, Nio was sure the boy would have drowned), but they had also left the boy with a very urgent and pressing need. Said need had Nio searching desperately for somewhere where his son could.. take care of business.
"Okay, here we go, just hold on one more minute Donny, we'll try here okay?"
"Donny gotta gooo.."
Nio stared up at the store, nondescript as it was, and hoped beyond hope that someone was inside. Someone nice enough to help a little boy in need and his frazzled father out. He knocked on the door, perhaps a little too hard and fast, then waited. Sian Sian heard someone at the door and looked down at the egg. It was like Meru's just the design was a bit darker... Oh well. Placing the egg in her pocket she looked towards the door and then jogged over to it. "I wonder who it could be...?" She though to herself while rubbing her face where the egg had boinked her, she could already feel it bruising. She grabbed the door handle as many thoughts ran through her head and opened the door to see a guy... and something with him. "Um... Hello, can I help you?" Nio Love Both father and son held the same frantic and nervous smile as the door was opened, though the boy remained silent. Nio spoke up, giving the woman a friendly nod.
"Good afternoon. Lovely day isn't it? I apologize if I'm disturbing anything, but you see, my little boy here's got a bit of an emergency, and I was just wondering if you would be so kind as to let him use your-"
"DONNY GO BOOM AND DIE!"
"..Bathroom." The man sighed at his son's outburst, holding on to him tightly as the little winged midget fluttered dramatically and looked as though he had just fainted dead away. ".. and while we're at it, if you know of any acting schools around here.."
He received a chubby foot in his face, nudging it rudely before flopping down once more. Sian Sian smiled lightly and tried to supress a laugh. "He can come use our bathroom, you may aswell com in too." She said as she opened the door wider and stepped out of the way. "It's the third door down the hall on your left." Sian said to the little boy with a wink. "You look like you may want to hurry though." She smiled as she said this, and put her hands in her sweater pockets. "Acting schools? No, I don't know of many around here, however then are a few down by main street. He'd do good in one." Nio Love "I disagree. I think he'd do horribly." He received another foot in his face before Donny promptly revived and hopped out of his father's arms.
"Thankee~!" He squealed out as he toddled off to the bathroom, quite capable of using it on his own for someone so small. Nio stepped inside and gave the woman an even more nervous smile, though it was unclear as to why.
"Thanks for helping us out. We live down further, in Gambino, we never would have made it. And you know how most places are about using the bathrooms without being a customer.." His last word trailed off a bit as he looked about, nervousness turning to confusion. "Ah.. this is a shop isn't it?" At first glance he couldn't tell just what kind of shop it was, or what they sold. Might as well see if there was anything he wanted while he was here. Sian Sian blinked a few times. "It's a shop of sort-" "Ohhhhh Guests! Sian why didn't you call me?" Naida slid down the stair banister and landed promptly at Sian's feet while giving the 'visitor' an inquiring look."This-" Sian pointed to Naida, "is what we sell in a way. They come out of..." fumblig with her pockets she pulled out the egg. "These, we found them... sort of. Anyways they need our help, and we need other people's help. As much as I would like to have a house full of things like Naida here-" She once again pointed at the mermaid. " I think I would go insane." Nio Love Nio looked down at the mermaid (quite literally, and not at all metaphorically, seeing as the man reached a touch over six feet in height) and if he could have gotten more nervous, he would have. Instead, he simply sighed. It seemed a pattern for him to find himself in seemingly innocent shops, only to somehow end up walking out with a new child. Of course, if he did that as often as it seemed, Enoh would kill him..
..except she was guilty of the same crime. The little white haired boy she had brought home yesterday was a perfect example.
"Ah.. you think you'd go crazy? Yeah, we're headed there. We've got eighteen of them at the moment. Nine girls, nine boys, funny how that worked out.." He gave a tired laugh, and scratched the back of his head. "It's a good thing we've got a huge house.." He looked down at the woman briefly, feeling a little rude for refering to we and not explaining himself. "My wife and myself I mean."
He gave the mermaid a fleeting look, wary that she would suddenly throw an item at him that would suddenly sprout a child, much like with Donny. Nope.. no books around.. safe.
"Not that I'm complaining," He added with a fond smile. "Love 'em, each and every one."
As if to punctuate his sentence, a faint flushing could be heard coming from down the hall, followed by a relieved little sigh. Sian Naida ignored the man and was concentrating on the bathroom. "Is there someone in MY bathroom? Oh my gosh my soaps." She gave a bit of a frantic sigh after she said this."Shush you Naida, he won't break anything I'm sure, and it's only lame soap." Sian stuck her tongue out at Naida when she said this. She got a dark galre in return. "That's quite a family. I used to have one like that until I was dumped on the streets. However Meru took me in... That's why I was saying 'we' lot's. Meru is my partner. Huuu, it get's tiring though looking after this freak here." She pointed at Naida again. "Sure, Sian I'm the freak. You're the one who can do magic. Plus I know you love me anyways." Naida said this with a dismissal sniff and then tried not to smile."Yeah, yeah... So, may I ask your name?" Nio Love As if being called, Donny strode out of the bathroom, looking rather triumphant. He promptly stopped in his stead when he saw what looked like a large, finned version of his sister, Vidya. He stared at Naida with wide eyes, and didn't put up much of a fuss as Nio collected him into his arms and carried him.
"Oh, dear. Please pardon my rudeness, I really should have introduced myself first thing. My name's Nio, and this is my son Adonis. We're both really grateful to you and pleased to make your acquaintance. May we ask your names?"
Donny continued to stare at Naida, feeling a strange sense of familiarity and kinship with her. The toddler reached a hand out, shyly waving to her, and the movement caught his father's eye. Nio briefly turned to look at Donny, before following his gaze to Naida. That was odd.. Donny had never acted like that around anyone before. Nio was sure the boy didn't know the meaning of shy. Sian Naida smiled and waves back to Adonis. She thought he was cute."Ah, Sorry about that. My name is Sian and this is Naida. Meru isn't home right now. She's working. Being here is sadly my job. To take care of the eggs and to get rid of them before they hatch and chaos insues this house!" Sian blushed after said this. "Okay maybe not chaos but my job would get much harder." Nio Love "Sian, Naida, nice to meet you both." Nio said, ignoring the repetition of his manners. He nudged Donny, who shook out of his staring fit and looked up at his father.
"You ready to go, shrimp?"
"Yah.. but.." He looked back at Naida with a pout, then back up at his father, who paled at the look he was being given.
He knew that look.
Oh, how he knew that look.
"Don-"
"Donny want one!" The little boy proclaimed, pointing at Naida before Nio could even get the words out.
"Donny, Naida isn't a pet, so you can't 'have one'. Okay? Now, let's g-"
"Squishee have one, and Donny help take care of it?"
"No, see, no. You're not getting what I- .. don't give me the puppy dog look. Don't do it. Stop looking at me like that Donny. Donny I'm serious. Don't.."
Nio cringed inwardly as the boy continued to melt him. He couldn't say no to that face. He just couldn't.
One day he would have to learn, though.
Nio turned to look at Sian sheepishly. "You don't have any that need a home right now, do you?" She probably doesn't, there's nothing to worry about, we can't buy what she doesn't have, don't worry Nio..
..Enoh's going to kill you. Sian Sian watched as Nio was melted by his son. It kind of made her happy that she didn't have any kids. The closest thing she had to a kid was Naida, except they were more like fighting siblings then anything. "Well, I do believe that we do have one actually. Just let me go grab it." Sian rushed out of the room and back into the Mirror room. She couldn't give Nio the egg she had just found. She had a feeling that one was meant for her, and her feelings were always correct. She huffed frantically while looking at all of the eggs they had. Which one will suit him best? Sian thought frantically. So she stood there sorting through the eggs and picking each one up one at a time and then she felt a jolt when she touched an egg. "OUCH!" ~*~ Naida flinched when she heard Sian yell. "I think she's found one for you. She's a weirdo that one, but she's compleatly trustworthy." Naida nodded thoughtfully as she said this. "Also, we aren't pets," Naida winked and went on. "No, we're much more then that."~*~ Sian grimanced and dropped the egg that had shocked her. So you're the one that he needs. She looked at it carefully, it seemed normal. Well normal for the eggs, it had a symbol just like the others. Sian touched it again carefully with her other hand. Her right one had been sent into submission by the shock. Stupid egg...Carefully she picked up the egg and got up after a bit of diffuculty. She couldn;t even move her right arm anymore. After getting up she slowly walked into the room where Nio, his son and Naida were. "I.. Uh got your egg." Nio Love "That's what I tried to tell him, but you try and tell the little monster anything when he starts to give you that look." Nio chided, eliciting a pout from the winged boy. He rolled his eyes and poked the boys tummy to get him to giggle, but they both looked up when they heard the cry. Nio looked back down at Naida, a single brow raised.
"Should.. I be worried about taking one of these home? I do have a lot of little kids, after all.." He worried his lip slightly, watching Sian come down with the chosen egg. "Are you all right?" Sian "I'll be fine... The egg just chose to be yours in a rather nasty way. I don't think they like me much... Maybe Naida has been talking to them. However we haven't had any trouble with any of the other owners and Mysterians are quite sane." "I do not talk to them... Okay I do but still. It could also be that they react to you differently because of well you know." Naida said to Sian turning a bit red."Shush you." Sian looked over at Naida with a rather disaproving look. She then gave a bit of a one armed shrug and handed the egg over to Nio. "It's a girl so you know. Also if you have any questions at all feel free to come back or phone us. I could give you our number if you want." Sian smiled and nodded as she said this, she was happy to be rid of another egg. They were running out of space quite frankly. Nio Love This was a bad idea. Baaad idea. Then again so were most ideas he ventured on.
"Chose, eh? Well, that settles it then. How much do I owe you? And I'd really appreciate taking your number just in case."
Adonis squealed at the egg, reaching out with his chubby hands for it. Nio hesitated, eyeing the boy warily, before placing the egg into his open palms. "Donny, be extra careful.. don't hold it too tightly, don't drop it or run around it with.. just.. don't. Whatever it is you think of doing, don't. Okay?"
The boy gave his nervous father an exasperated look, but nonetheless he held the egg as gingerly as possible, bending inward to peer into it's surface to see if there were any tiny little Vidyas or Donnys floating around within. Sian "Hmm, you can pay whatever you think is acceptable." Sian nodded and smiled. "Also you don''t have to worry about the egg breaking. Last week I dropped one down the stairs and Meru stepped on it and slipped. The only thing that got hurt was Meru." Sian said this as she waled over to the desk in the front hall and pulled a piece of paper and pen out. Show wrote the number down and handed it to Nio. "Also don''t worry. These eggs and what''s inside them won''t hurt you. They have reason to react to me." Sian nodded and grinned. Nio Love Nio couldn't help but feel a little awkward at having to choose his own price for it. "Ah.. I don't.. that is to say.. what have other people paid for their eggs? I'm really not good at this.." Leaving something up to a man this flipfloppy was never a good idea. After all, Enoh always made the big decisions in the family.
Donny was elated to hear that the egg wasn't as fragile as his father made it out to be. He began to poke it repeatedly upon the revelation of this news, and giggled when it didn't break. This would certainly make for a fun new toy, at least until it hatched!
Nio would never have asked Sian why an egg would react foully to her, as it would be rude, and completely out of place. He was curious, but kept it completely to himself. Slipping the paper into the wallet he had pulled out to pay, he waited for (hopefully) some inkling as to how much he should offer for the new member of their family. Sian "Well, some of the eggs have gone for super high prices and others have gone for lower prices. However, for you we can play a game." Sian closed her left hand and then opened it making a large black top hat grow from her palm. "Hmm now we need some prices." She put the hat on the table that had the pen and paper on it then pointed to the pen and paper with her left hand again. This time the paper ripped into a few pieces and numbers were written onto it. Then they flew into the hat. "Alright now pick two pieces of paper. The first one will be say the base price and then second will be a number you have to times it by!" Nio Love Nio laughed nervously as the hat appeared out of thin air. Donny was briefly distracted from his new toy by the trick, and squealed happy. He reached out and dropped the egg into the hat. "Safe!" He squealed like a chibi umpire.
Nio eyed his son warily, before picking the egg out. On top of the egg was already a piece of paper. "Well, that seems fair enough. Looks like this'll be the first one.." He used his other hand to pick out the second piece, then handed the egg back to his son gently, before unfolding the two pieces of paper. "One says 300.. and one says 10. Huh, so 3000. That sounds all right to me. How about you?" He looked up at Sian hopefully, dropping the two pieces of paper back into the hat and pulling the appropriate amount from his wallet to give to her.
Donny now wanted a top hat to keep his new toy in. He pouted, making grabby hands for the hat itself. Sian "Sounds good." Sian nodded as she watched Donny. She took the cash from Nio and tucked it away in her pocket. After thinking for a second she dumped the paper out of the hat with her left hand (Due to the fact that she still couldn''t use her right one.) making the paper exlplode into sparkles before it touched the ground. Then she took the hat and placed it on Donny''s head. "He''s a cute kid." Nio Love Donny's grabbing motions stopped when the sparklies exploded, and his eyes widened. This was, in his opinion, one of the coolest days ever. He gawked at the woman, only to have his vision blocked by the top hat placed on his head. His hand reached up to push the hat upward, staring at her like she was a goddess.
Well, a goddess to a toddler at least.
He squealed happily and picked the hat up just enough to slip the egg under it, before putting the hat back on his head firmly and making sure it was on nice and tight, despite the fact that it then covered half his vision. "Safe~!" He chimed contently, and grinned that large, cocky little grin of his. "Thank-oo!"
"Sometimes too cute, I'd say," Nio chided softly, smiling. "But we keep him around anyway. All right Donny, let's go." He let the boy go, and it would seem that Donny would have dropped to the ground quite painfully. They were far too used to this routine however - Donny's wings flared out the moment he felt his fathers arms move, and he fluttered back around to climb onto the man's back and cling to him. It was his favorite way to travel.
Nio held his hand out for Sian, and if taken, would then do the same for Naida. "It really was nice to meet you both. I'm sure we'll keep in touch often." Sian Naida watched Donny fly to his fathers back in wonderment. That. Was. So Cool. She only wished she could fly, that would make getting around much easier for her. Sian took Nio's hand after a bit of confusion dut to having no right arm. She didn't let this stop her from smiling at Donny's amazement though. He was a cool kid. " I hope to see you again soon." Sian said with another one of her nods. Naida shook Nio's hand aswell only with less confusion then Sian's handshake. Oh well. She also waved to Donny. "I hope to see all three of you soon. Nio Love "Oh, you will." Nio confirmed with a laugh, giving them both one last wave before opening the door and heading back home with the boy firmly attached to his back.
"Nice place, isn't it?"
"Donny thirsty!"
".. Don't even."
Donny pouted softly when his father looked at him in exasperation, but once he turned away the boy's pout turned into a mischievous grin. He was just too easy..

The dusty town was deserted, and quiet. All Nio could hear was the rustling of tumbleweeds as they drifted along the dirt lined street lazily, hopping to and fro at their leisure. He watched one in particular, and it led his gaze to a set of swing doors hanging haphazardly on hinges. A sign hung crookedly above the doors, but most of the writing was covered by dust, and the top right corner of the sign had been shot clear off.
Still, one could tell it was a bar.
Nio took a step forward, but stopped once that first step had been taken. He swung around and looked to each side of him, trying to catch sight of whoever or whatever had just made that tinkling noise he'd heard with his first step. It took a minute before he had to give up and assume it was all in his mind, but when he turned back to the bar once more he heard it again.
He looked left, then right, then with a slow realization his head turned down to catch a glimpse of his own clothing. His feet bore a stark resemblance to weapons, with spurred boots so pointed that he was sure he could hurt someone if he wasn't careful. He bent his leg to get a good look at the sharp spur behind one of the boots, and then noticed the chaps he wore on his legs, which made him feel just a little creeped out. Lastly, he fingered the leathery frills on his brown vest, and in doing so his head bent to an angle that forced his hat to fall off.
It was then that he realized he was wearing a hat.
He picked up the large tipped cowboy hat, and gave it a good long look from each side, before running a hand across it's brim and sliding it back up over onto his head. In doing so, a strange feeling came over him. Suddenly, he found none of this odd at all.. even the chaps.
After all, he was the sheriff of this here town. He had to dress accordingly.
His next few noisy steps led him into the bar, which was surprisingly noisy in comparison with the ghost town he'd just walked out of. He pushed the swing doors open, and stepped in, letting them close behind him.
The noise in the bar seemed to lower considerably at his presence. It seemed he'd killed the party a bit.
He saddled up to the bar and tipped his hat slightly to the bartender, who nervously polished a shot glass.
"Double whiskey, Inle." He murmured to the bartender, before turning around on his stool and giving the crowd a look.
"Well, what are y'all starin' at? Go on, enjoy y'selves. Ain't no sense in lettin' me ruin yer fun."
The mood in the bar lightened considerably, but a heavy nervousness still penetrated the environment. No one was really off-guard around the sheriff, especially when Mad Dog was in town.
As if their thoughts had called him forward, the doors to the bar swung open so hard that one of them fell right off it's hinges and slammed to the floor. A man dressed in black hooted at his offense, and his posse of two men behind him laughed obnoxiously in response. He sauntered up to a table and practically shoved his lackeys to other seats, before buckling down into his own and setting his mud-soaked feet up onto the table. He slammed the table with a fist, and cried out loudly.
"OI, WHERE'S TH' SERVIN' WENCH! Me 'n my men need us somethin' hard after a long days work!"
The entire bar had gone eerily silent from the moment Mad Dog had entered. The most movement people would afford was to give fleeting, dodging looks from Mad Dog to the sheriff, and back again. The sheriff, however, hadn't turned when Mad Dog entered. He faced the bar, drinking his first shot of whiskey.
"H-here Miss Enoh, bring the good man this bottle of whiskey, finest in the house." The bartender handed a barmaid the bottle, and put a few shot glasses on a tray for her, before shuffling her forward. She looked far from amused at the prospect of having to serve this scum, and her distaste for the man was obvious in her expression when she reached the table and put the tray down. She set the bottle down none too gently in the middle of the table, at which point Mad Dog bent his chair back with just enough of an angle to get a good look at her rear view. His slimy look only worsened.
"Well well, this ain't a wench at all, if it ain't a li'l jewel from heaven. Hey boys, this here bar knows how to treat it's best customers!" He rose one hand and let it round to slap the woman directly on her a**; an action which received a yelp that pleased him. His head leaned back in laughter, and he didn't see the slap coming.
His laughter died when he felt the sting of a woman's slap against his cheek, and the silence that followed was punctuated by several chairs being shuffled back away from the table, as well as a few patrons ducking under their own tables. A few bolder men just plain bolted from the scene entirely.
Mad Dog rubbed his red cheek for a moment, glaring violently at the barmaid. In a heartbeat several things occurred, seemingly at once. Mad Dog pushed his chair back and stood up quickly, which frightened many people into scurrying as far away from the scene as possible, and elicited a shriek or two from the other barmaids. Enoh, however, continued to glare defiantly at Mad Dog.
"Why you little wench.."
The sheriff picked up his second whiskey shot, and took it.
"I'll teach you a lesson or two.."
He put the shot glass down and pushed it gently toward the bartender, holding up two fingers.
"Inle, set me up for another round of two. I'll be right back."
Mad Dog fingered his gun anxiously, before reaching out and wrapping his hand roughly around the woman. The barmaid growled venomously, but it didn't stop Mad Dog's intent - he pulled out his gun, turned it to the back, and rose it up to pistolwhip the woman into oblivion. He would have done it, too, if a gunshot hadn't suddenly shot his gun out of his hand.
He backed away a step, letting the barmaid go as he inspected his smoking hand. It hadn't been shot, but close enough that the skin of his thumb was singed and hot. His head snapped up to find the culprit, but it was obvious who had done it. There sat the sheriff, leaning back against the bar, with his smoking gun in his hand. His hat was tipped downward, covering his face.
"Well, c'mon now Mad Dog, I won't be lettin' you hurt that there pretty lady, so why don't you and yer riff raff head on out of town before I haveta take you in?"
Mad Dog's angry sneer turned upward in a psychotic grin, and he bent down to slowly pick up his gun, twirling it expertly in his hands while still bent, until it landed suddenly in the right position for a shot and he aimed it at the sheriffs head. The loose hold that the sheriff had on his gun was a farce; it was aimed perfectly at Mad Dog the entire time, and once Mad Dog's gun had stilled, he shot a second time.
The hat on Mad Dog's head flew off and skittered to the floor.
"I won't warn yeh again."
"I AIN'T LEAVIN' WITHOUT A FIGHT, SHERIFF! Think y'can stop me? Y'know you'll haveta kill me first! What say y'meet me on the street at noon, and we'll have ourselves a real showdown." Mad Dog gave the barmaid a look, before reaching out and pulling her forcefully against him once more. "Winner take all." He sneered with a dripping voice, giving her one last look as she fought violently to get away from him, before he let her go and backed away out the door. His gun remained pointed at the sheriff at all times as he exited.
A moment later, his goons realized they had been abandoned, and struggled to run out of the bar as fast as they could.
Sheriff Nio pushed his hat back up with the barrel of his gun, and his green eyes turned to the barmaid, nodding faintly. "Y'all right there, miss?" He offered to her, extending his concern. She had been glaring at the door even after Mad Dog had left, and the sudden voice in her direction startled her. She turned toward the sheriff, and her eyes softened considerably when they fell upon him for the first time.
"I'm fine.. a little frazzled, s'all."
"Well, good t'hear. If you'll excuse me then.." He turned and took one of his new shots of whiskey, still waiting for him at the bar, before immediately taking the second and setting the shot glasses down on the bar before the bartender. He stood up, brushed his vest straight, and twirled his gun expertly around his fingertips before sliding it without a moment's notice into it's holster. He tipped his hat and bowed his head politely to the woman as he passed her, but found he wouldn't get far.
His arm was held back, and he turned to look at the hands that held it, following their path all the way to the barmaid's pleading gaze.
"Please, sir.. don't get yourself killed for me."
He chuckled, and turned to reach for her hands, taking them both in one hand and kissing the backs of them gently. This brought a blush that rose up her cheeks, and she looked away in embarrassment.
"Don't you worry your pretty little head over it one more moment, Miss. Ain't no one gettin' killed, s'long as I kin help it."
He squeezed her hands softly in comfort, and gave her a charming little half-smile. She looked up into that comforting expression, and let him go. He turned without another word, and sauntered out the door.

High noon. It had only been an hour, but Mad Dog was ready. He stood triumphantly, like a proud black smudge on the brown and grey of the backdrop behind him. His two cronies were flanked at his side, smirking obnoxiously. Mad Dog looked straight up into the sky, and shielded his eyes from the sun directly over his head.
"Noon. Looks like the good sheriff done went yellow bellied and-"
His voice caught when he turned his eyes downward, and realized the man in question was standing directly in front of him, several feet away. He had made his entrance without notice, having taken off his spurs and settling at his spot silently. Mad Dog's careless grin faltered for a moment, before turning into an angry and belligerent sneer.
"All right boys, step aside. I don't want no one thinkin' this kill was by anyone but me."
The goons behind him scattered away, hiding behind a pole or a door like the rest of the town seemed to be doing. Most of the townsfolk were watching, safe behind windowsills or door hinges or walls. As much as they hoped the sheriff would win this fight, they wouldn't chance their lives for loyalty's sake.
Most wouldn't, at least.
As the two men stared each other down, and anxiously fingered their sheathed weapons, they were both distracted by the movement to the right of the sheriff. The barmaid from earlier was running boldly in his direction, holding her skirts in one hand and something else in the other. She stopped in front of the sheriff, and gave Mad Dog one last, scathing look, before unfurling her hand and letting the item within fall loose. It was a small but thick golden pendant, that hung from a chain tangled around her fingers. She lifted her hands up around the sheriffs neck, and let the pendant fall against his chest.
"For luck," She whispered softly, with a note of worry in her voice. She backed away a step, and looked as though she would run back into the bar, but after second thought she took a step forward and put both hands on his shoulders, pulling up to press a chaste kiss against his cheek.
After all, her hero deserved nothing more or less.
She averted her eyes from his gaze, turning her blushed face away as she scurried back to the bar. One could hear the hushed voices of other women as they chided her for her actions.
Sheriff Nio touched his kissed cheek with two fingers, before giving Mad Dog a pitiful look. "Ah, c'mon now partner, y'know y've got no chance now. Let's settle this peacefully at the jail. I kin promise y'won't be-"
Mad Dog had gone red in the face after seeing his prize kissing the sheriff. He looked about ready to pop both of them, had it not been for the plan he knew he would ruin. He stopped the sheriff's words by withdrawing his gun, which solicited the same reaction from Nio. Mad Dog pointed his gun at the sky and shot; the sound rang through the empty town for seconds after it had happened.
"SHUT UP. JUS' SHUT UP 'N GIT READY FOR YER LAST FEW MINUTES'A LIFE!"
It seemed that seeing the barmaid offer what little affections she could to the sheriff and not him had stirred his jealousy a little more than the sheriff had expected. He quieted, and gave the man a stiff nod, before sheathing his weapon once more and setting his hand just above it. Mad Dog mirrored this action, and the two began their staredown.
Each pair of steely eyes showed no signs of fatigue. Green met black in a straight glare that never faltered, nor broke. The fingers of each man's gun-hand curled slowly just above the holstered gun, more tempted to strike with each passing second.
A tumbleweed passed between the two playfully, bouncing in the air with a movement that seemed slower than life would allow it. It distracted neither gunman, but a glimmer of light that shone straight into the sheriff's eyes caught him in distraction, and Mad Dog took his chance.
He pulled his gun from the holster, aimed, and shot straight at Sheriff Nio's heart. His aim was impeccable, and the shot met it's target.
After a second of waiting, Sheriff Nio fell back to the ground. One could hear a shriek coming from the bar, and Enoh tore out from it's depths, falling to her knees at the sheriffs side.
"No.. no it can't be.. I won't believe it. Say it ain't so, sheriff.. say it ain't so."
"Oh, it's so little lady. Now, I believe you belong t'me."
Enoh had stiffened the moment she heard the voice behind her, but when he claimed her for his own she staggered to her feet in an attempt to run. Mad Dog easily caught her up in his arms, and let her struggle against his grip, seemingly enjoying it.
"Yeah, tha's the way I like 'em, fiesty!" He cackled, dodging her slaps and eventually holding her arms behind her to keep her from getting away. In doing all of this, both of them failed to notice Sheriff Nio sitting up straight and rubbing his head as if waking up from a good night's sleep. He felt his bruised chest, and his fingers ran across something oddly shaped. He pulled the golden pendant out from underneath his shirt, and inspected it closely. There, embedded in it's metal, was a bullet.
"Now y'see, Mad Dog.. I told yeh y'didn't stand a chance. There ain't no kind of luck in this world stronger than a woman's kiss."
Both Mad Dog and Enoh stopped and stared at the man as if seeing a ghost. He tipped his hat and winked slyly, before pushing himself to his feet. "Now, iffin y'don't mind, I'd like to finish this here duel."
Mad Dog spit at the sheriffs feet, and released the woman in his arms if only to pull out his gun. He froze when his widened eyes saw the glint of a barrel glaring down at him as it pointed at the middle of his forehead.
"Now that ain't right, set y'self back where yeh belong, Popion."
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!" Mad Dog raged at the sheriff, though he still didn't move as the gun was still pointed at his face. His next words came at more of a whine. "You promised you'd never call me that!"
The sheriff rolled his eyes, and gestured with his gun for the man to back up and get back to his place. He then aimed his gun to the right, and seemingly shot at an innocent tobacco store. The shopowners wife cried out and fainted dead away into the shopowners arms, but the bullet wasn't intended for them. Instead, the bullet shattered the small broken mirror that one of Mad Dog's men was holding from behind the wall; the one that had distracted Sheriff Nio earlier. The goon yiped and dropped the broken mirror, before hiding completely behind the wall.
"Now that we've made things fair," Nio murmured pleasantly, twirling his gun before sliding it back into it's holster. "Let's finish this."
"I ask for one thing, one thing, but does he do it, of course not, the pretentious little-"
"Fer cryin' out loud, MAD DOG."
The man stopped mumbling angrily to himself, and set his gun back in it's holster, glaring defiantly at the sheriff. The two settled back into place, beginning their staredown anew.
Moments of silence seemed to stretch like hours. Their unblinking glares became glassy and frozen in determination.
In a heartbeat the deed was begun. Both men unholstered their weapons and fired, but only one shot hit it's target.
Nio's bullet had already managed to fly straight into the barrel of Mad Dog's gun before his shot was made, and when Mad Dog fired, the gun backfired into his hand and burned him severely. He yelped and dropped his gun, blowing at his hand to soothe the burning.
It seemed that Sheriff Nio had kept his promise after all.
A round of cheers went up from the towns people, who came out of hiding and celebrated openly at the victory of their hero. Sheriff Nio blew at the top of his gun, and gestured to his deputies as they came forward.
"All right there boys, just take these three up and put 'em in a cell, I'll deal with 'em when I return."
He whistled and a small little blonde boy came forward, reining in a proud looking blue horse.
"Where yah goin', Sheriff Nio?" The little boy curiously asked as he stared up at the man in awe. Nio took the reins of his horse Frey, and patted his muzzle softly, before he stuck his boot in the saddle and flipped his leg over to mount the horse.
"Don't rightly know, little Donny. S'pose I'll know when I get there."
He turned his steed in a circle before heading down the path heading out of town, but when he heard someone running behind them, he pulled the reins back and halted. His hand lifted to push the rim of his hat up when he turned his head to the side and looked down at the barmaid beside him.
"Take me with you, Sheriff Nio."
The sheriff thought about it for a moment, and just when it seemed he would have to decline, he slid to the side and wrapped his arm around the woman, lifting her up easily and dropping her on the saddle behind him. She wrapped her arms around his waist, and didn't look as though she would ever want to let go.
"Well, little lady, reckon I can't say no to an offer like that."
His horse began a slow trot down the path headed out of town, as they headed straight for a blazing sunset. It looked like it was going to be a beautiful day.
".. Squishee?"
There was a finger in Nio's nose, and he was relatively certain it was not the finger of the lovely barmaid Enoh. He opened one sleepy eye, then another, and was faced with a very curious looking Donny, who was wrapped up affectionately in his arms.
"Squishee, movie over. Let Donny go!"
Nio turned his head to the TV in front of the couch they rested on, and watched the black and white credits scroll. His still-hazy mind registered a few names, backdropped by the scene of two people on a horse riding into the sunset. He reached up and rubbed his eyes with both his fists, which gave Donny his freedom back. The little boy scurried away from his father, who had just a moment ago cuddled him up in his arms and acted all.. weird. Like Donny was some kind of plushie or something. Which, he wasn't, as the boy would have happily pointed out.
Nio picked up the remote of the TV and turned it off, shaking his head to try and wake up fully.
"Sheesh.." He murmured sleepily to himself. "I've gotta stop falling asleep during movies.."
Donny yawned demonstratively, and Nio sat up to give his son a good look. "Tired?" He asked the boy, who reluctantly nodded his head. Nio picked his son up and stood from the couch, heading toward the stairs.
"Well, reckon I'm a might tired myself."
Donny gave his father an odd look, before he giggled and rolled his eyes, while resting his head on his father's shoulder.
"You silly, squishee."
"Too right I am."

"Shhh, Donny. You''re making too much noise."
The boy was fluttering excitedly behind his father as he tried to sneak in the house with a package in his arms larger than Donny himself was - wings included! He was sure it was a present for himself, but the way that Nio wasn''t trying to hide it from him discouraged that belief slightly.
Still, all presents were somehow Donny''s in some form or another.
"Go check if your sisters are upstairs, would you?"
"Viddy went shopping with mommy!"
"And Harmony?"
Donny gave Nio a quirked glance, as if confused by the question. "Harmony? She''s upstairs. But-"
"Darn. I guess it''ll just be a surprise when Viddy comes home, then.."
Nio trudged up the stairs with the huge package, leaving Donny floating in the air behind him. His face was the picture of confusion. Harmony wasn''t his sister, she was his pet.
Silly squishee.
Nio knocked on the door to the bedroom, and a moment later the little blonde girl opened the door. She looked up at the large package with legs, and backed away as it came forward.
"What is that..?"
"That," Nio huffed as he set it down and straightened his back, "is a present for both you and Viddy. You can open it if you like, so that Viddy will see it when she comes home. It''ll be a surprise for her."
Harmony inched forward and gave the box a look, before pulling off the paper and opening it. The cardboard fell away to reveal a very large castle dollhouse.

Donny was aghast. Where was his dollhouse!?
"It''s very pretty.." Harmony coo''d, settling down to open it up and look inside. She couldn''t wait for Vidya to come home and see it.
"Donny want a dollhouse!"
"Donny.. boys don''t.. ah.. just.. well you can play with it too."
This answer didn''t seem to appease the boy much. As Nio left the room, he crossed his arms and glared at the door while his ''pet'' toyed with the little pieces of the dollhouse behind him.
He smelled mutiny, and if it was a war the man wanted, it was a war he would receive.

Transcribed from Harmony's Journal Nio Love "Give it back!"
Harmony had been running in circles around her room, trying to catch her brother Donny and keep him from escaping the room with his prize flailing high above his head, in his hands. He couldn't read, but once he saw his pet writing in this journal he felt it mandatory that someone should read to him what she was writing. She could keep no secrets from him, it was scandalous!
So there they were, running back and forth, like a cat and mouse, yelling back at each other.
"Donny got your booook, Donny got your booook~!"
"Donny, stop being a brat and give it back!"
But Donny was having way too much fun with this game, and had almost forgotten why he'd taken the diary in the first place. At some point in his mind this had switched into a game of tag, and he wanted nothing more than to play with his pet. He teased her with the book, squealing when she got too close and bouncing onto the bed to give him altitude so that he could hover safely in the air away from her. She immediately moved to the closed door to protect it, though she knew he couldn't get through it without settling down near the knob.
"When daddy hears about this, he's going to be so mad at you."
A joyous grin lit up Donny's face, and Harmony immediately regretted her words. This only spurred him on further, and she should have known it.
"Or.. or.. maybe he'll be proud of you! Maybe he'll think you clever for playing with me like he asked you to do the other day, when you refused to come near me. Remember, Donny? You'll make daddy so proud!"
The boy's smile faded away instantly, and Harmony forced herself not to grin in bitter triumph. He hovered slowly down to the bed, and pondered upon this for a minute. As much as he enjoyed playing with her, if his father wanted him to, he wouldn't do it. He threw the book at her angrily, and she caught it in one hand.
"Go 'way." Donny proclaimed to her with a pout, and flopped onto the bed sullenly. She regretted having to use these kinds of tactics with him, but knew she couldn't help it. She tucked the book under her arm, and left the room quietly to find a better place to hide her diary from her brother.
Though turned away from her, Donny could hear when the door closed, and his pout only deepened upon catching the sound. He really did want to play with his sister.. he sniffed loudly, on the verge of tears but never quite managing it.
Harmony paused just outside the door when she heard the sniff, and shook her head, rolling her eyes.
"Oh, Donny." she whispered quietly to herself as she walked away. "Why do you have to be so stubborn."

Morning came soon enough, and with it the sounds of a crying baby. Nio hadn't gotten up in time, and by the time he actually sat up the cries had been satiated by what he could only assume was a mother's love. He pushed himself off the bed and ran his hand through his hair, mussing it until his ears were free of every tangled lock. He ran it through once more to calm the hair down, before taking a deep breath. He could already smell breakfast being cooked; God, how he loved this house.
He turned and looked at the empty bed; with Enoh missing he assumed he was right about her taking care of the baby. He walked out of the room and headed for Donny, Vidya and Harmony's room. He knocked on the door gently, before opening it.
"Rise and shine. I can't promise I won't eat all of the breakfast before you get there if you're too slow!"
The covers shifted, and Donny sat up like a bullet, though his eyes were still closed. "DONNY WANT BACON."
"Well you'd better hurry up and get down there. Wake up your sisters too."
Nio turned to leave, and unbenownst to him Vidya had already headed downstairs. So Donny trudged out of bed, and climbed up into Harmony's bed. There he sat on the lump of a girl, bouncing lazily.
"WakeupwakeupwakeupDONNYWANTBACON."
What greeted him when he started to pull the covers away.. wasn't his sister/pet. Or at least, that's what he thought.
A shrill cry stopped Nio in his tracks before he took his second step downstairs, and he bolted back up to Donny's room, flinging the door open. Donny had jumped off the bed and now lay on the floor, staring at a much larger, and more mature Harmony. His chubby finger was pointed at her in disgust.
"THAT THING ATE DONNY'S PET!!" He screeched, and Harmony rolled her eyes. She had no idea she was different, but she was used to Donny acting weird. She faced a twinge of fear when she looked up at her father and caught a glimpse of the expression of shock on his face.
"..What?"
Her voice sounded funny. She figured it must have been because she just woke up. Her father pointed her toward the full length mirror on the door of the closet, and she slid out of bed and stood up. A moment of dizziness hit her, as everything seemed out of place, or disproportioned. Donny was so much farther than he should be. Moving toward the mirror to take a look at herself, she found the reason why.

Before she could react, Donny had taken flight and lunged for her back, wrapping his chubby little arms around her neck. "GIVE DONNY BACK HIS PET YOU EVIL BIG THING!", he screamed, snapping Nio out of his shock. "Donny, stop that! You'll hurt her!" Nio pulled his flailing son off of her, and held the boy in his hands as he squirmed to get free.
"Donny, calm do-OW DONNY! That was my chin! Stop going wild and listen - remember when Harmony used to be an egg?"
Donny's arms still flailed sporatically, but he calmed considerably to consider this. "Yah.."
"Remember how she changed?"
"Yah.."
"Well she changed again. Okay? Just like Vidya. She grew up too."
Donny's flailing arms stilled, and a dark look fell on his features. "Grew up."
"Yes Donny, it's still Harmony."
Just like Vidya. Just like Tybalt. Just like.. everyone but Donny. Donny had stilled so much that Nio let him slide out of his grasp, and he continued down until he plopped on his rear on the floor, and crossed his arms. He refused to say another word.
Harmony had been staring at her own reflection all this time. She was so much taller, and she was bigger in all sorts of places. Like mommy! She swiveled around, and smiled at her father. "I'm going to show mommy, okay?" She bubbled out, and her father nodded with a wistful, crooked smile.
"Sure, you do that princess."
She walked quickly out of the room, and Nio picked up his son. "Ah Donny, they're all growing up around me. I don't think I'll be able to take it when you grow up."
Donny gave him a sullen look, but kept quiet. Still, he let the man carry him downstairs to breakfast. That, at the very least, was a good sign.
