Binti's eyes were narrowed, and she shifted from paw to paw, irritated. "Maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't..." she said, still baring her teeth at him. She wanted the lines clearly drawn NOW, at this moment...she wanted to be dominant, more than anything. She'd spent her entire young life in a pride, and had secretly resented the way that the male cubs were treated with so much more respect, even though her brothers had not been able to hunt as well as she, stalk as well...heck, they were probably still in the den, not straying far from mommy's side...and Essien was catching the brunt of all that resentment.

"Miss Binti..." he says a little softer, looking very confused. First she was helping him, if a little roughly, but now she seemed, well... agressive towards him! He takes another step back, ears swiveling backward defensively. Those teeth of hers'... he didn't need to have much life experience to catch that signal.
"What's the matter?" he asks, trying to sound as sweet and level as he can. "I've done nothing to you... why are you so angry?"

Calming down slightly when he didn't react aggressively in return, she snarled one last time and whirled, pacing a little ways away, irritation seeming to radiate off of her in waves. "Nothing...nothing at all. And I'm not ANGRY..." she muttered, eyes flashing, her ears pinned back. But, on the bright side, it looked as though she'd directed her anger at something other than Essien, for the time being. "I need some time to myself." she said abruptly, rising and moving to stalk off into the tall grass.

Lucky boy! Looks like he's free from her wrath for a while.
.... but he can't just be happy with that, can he? Perhaps stupidly he follows her, pawing a little ways behind her. She may not be like other lionesses, but... everyone liked to be listened to, right?
"What's the matter?" he says softly, sitting down but keeping his muscles tense, in case he needed to leap away quickly to avoid those claws of hers'.

[ Woah, my plan to revive worked. whee ]
Laio shook her head in a rainbow spray of droplets, thankful for at last finding this tiny waterhole. The heat still slammed down across the landscape, making the skinny reddish cheetah retreat into the shade of a nearby tree. Then something caught her eye. What? Two pridecats? She narrowed her eyes as she atempted to make out the two shapes quite a distance away. Hah. Can't have that. This was going to be her new territory! No pridecats allowed! .. Well, her water anyway. She would defend that commodity, and prey on the beasts that came to visit it. A self-satisfied smile crossed the cubs muzzle, and she lay down in the shade, still upright and alert.

Binti snarled at him again, but the sound was less violent than before...sort've. "I said that there wasn't ANYTHING WRONG." she growled, eyeing him balefully, although her eyes twinkled for a split second in mirth as she observed that he hadn't yet let down his guard. "And what part of my saying that I wanted to be alone didn't you understand?" she went on, narrowing her eyes.

Essien is either very brave or very naive... though from the way he carried himself, it's easy to tell which. He flinches at that snarl, but doesn't seem turned off. Enough of being kind, he was being purely selfish now. He needed her. It was obvious that without a little lioness like her, he'd starve out here in a few more days. He didn't know how to care for himself!
"Miss Binti.." he says hurredly, "you promised you'd make a hunter of me. I..." Think fast, think fast... what would she want to hear... it was so confusing! ".... I still need you here, Miss Binti." Good save.

Binti blinked, obviously something at a loss over his last statement. Narrowing her eyes, she stared at him, obviously weighing his words. Of course, being Binti, she didn't correct his presumption that she'd been abandoning him PERMANENTLY. After all, a gal's nothing without her reputation, ne? Nodding once, curtly, the tension left her. "I did indeed...and a promise is a promise, isn't it?" she said on a small sigh. "Then we'll continue our lessons on THAT tomorrow..for now, I want a drink...and then I'll see if I can't scrounge us up something in the brush before we start looking for shelter...after all, I personally would rather not have to sleep in such an open area--it leaves you vulnerable." she said, her eyes hard as gemstones.

The sun hung high in the pale, powder-blue sky, umarred by the pitifully few and far-between clouds drifting by. The pale-yellow orb's glare upon the land brought forth shimmering waves of heat, disorienting one's view and decieving them.
Kono-epesi was no exception.
The black-orange cub's mouth hung open as she greedily sucked in the scourching air, wishing for perhaps the hundreth time that day that it was night. At least then it wasn't so hot! Her red-orange eyes tore themselves away from her paws to take in the landscape, her ears and tail sinking with disappointment as the land seemd unchanged.
But wait! What's that? She stared numbly at the tree before she recognized its presence. Grimly, she forced her paws in that direction, picking up speed as the sweet scent of water alit her nose.

['tis goood! *snugs Maru* And I love Kono. So cute. xD ]
The young cheetah cub caught herself with a start. She had nearly fallen asleep! Now that couldn't be a good thinng. Looking aorund she guessed that the sun was a little lower, and the heatwas less intense. She stretched to her feet, gave a quick check on the two pridecats who were still a ways off, and then trotted down to her waterhole, eyes darting this way and that before she took another drink. Ha, that was good. Her own waterhole.... and now for the preybeasts! The reddish cub snickered slightly to herself, dipping one black pawtip in the water and watching it sparkle in the blazing sunshine as it dripped off. Then she began walking aound the small pool, making sure her scent was there in some places (to warn off others) and not in some places (for the preybeasts to come!). Quite satisfied with herself she loped ungainly back to her treeshade.

((Thanks! X3 *snugs both of ye back* whee ))
A shadow flecked with fiery orange spots slid through the grass as easily as water, stirring only the tallest of the long stalks of grass. The need for food along with instinct taught her paws their liquid movement, as time and time again proved to her that rushing often ended with loose feathers in one's paws. Kono resisted the temptation to run, forcing herself to not imagine the swwet, cold caress of the water as it slid down her throat...
The cub distracted herself by crouching down into the slinking hunter's "walk" as she called it, one she had devised just to pounce on the unwary avains before they left to rejoin their sky kingdom. Of course, the last time she did that was a while ago...
She forced her paws to a stop as the scent of water teased her, urging her to come closer to taste the swe- Kono-epesi shook her head, despelling the imagery and, unwittingly, brushing the grass against the wind. She froze, waiting for a heartbeat before slinking forward, soon coming to the grass' end. Ahead lay her paradise, and yet... She raised her head and tested the air. Was that... cheetah? This puzzled her greatly, as she recalled witnessing a blur of gold-and-black streak across the flatlands...
Well, maybe a cheetah HAD visited and left again. Kono lept from her hiding place and darted towards the waterhole, stopping only when her paws were covered in the water, sending a delightful sense of cold into her body. With a gladening cry, she immediatly lowered her head and drunk greedily, not yet noticing that the cheetah she had smelled earlier was still around, nor of the other two lions.

Laio's sleepiness had been her downfall. At the cry of the lioness cub, she snapped awake and bounded to her paws, racing toward HER water. "Yah! Get lost, pridecat!" She snarled, her baby-voice not helping much. "This is my waterhole! Find your own!" The nervous little cheetah tried to make herself look as fierce aspossible, reddish fur bristling, black-tipped paws set firmly apart as if threatening to box the startled lion's ears. Of course, she was scared out of her skin, being that much smaller, but she tried to make up for it in anger as she glared fiercely at the taller sooty lion. Inside she prayed that the other two pridecats wouldn't turn up. Three would be too many for her to handle.

((hope I'm not interrupting anything...but I had to start Kikora somewhere, and this thread needs more pages XD))
A ripple in the sun-scorched grass, and possibly the faint scent of lion heralded the arrival of yet another rouge cub. A patch of gold just a shade darker than the dried grass, Kikora padded her way across the land. The sun beat down upon her, although she ignored the heat as best as she could. Bright white ears flicked back and forth to pick up the sounds of any other creature nearby.
Was that the sound of voices? Kikora stood up to full height, raising her head to look around. Her sharp eyes saw two very small shapes in the distance. She inhaled deeply, sorting the scents that reached her nose; grass, water, unmoving air...lion. Two lions. She debated going over to them, decided against it, moved on. Barely two more steps and she halted again, hearing a cry from not too far off. Another lion, and much closer. Kikora immediately pressed herself low to the ground and slid silently towards the direction of the voice.
She came to the waterhole before long, although she did not go all the way up to it. She watched the female lion cub drinking from the safety of the long grass, every muscle tensed in case she felt the need to flee. She had almost decided to go and speak to the other cub when a cheetah came rushing towards the other lion with a fierce cry. Kikora thought for a second, and came to the conclusion that she should just watch for a while, and not interrupt. For she knew that if you see someone in a confrontation it is never be wise to interfere, and she had the scars to prove it.
((There you go, my first proper roleplaying post with Kikora. Hope it's not too bad!))

Kivuli walked steadily towards the scent of water. The young lioness had been traveling for days in search of the life-preserving liquid, and the pads of her paws burned from the long journey over harsh land. She had finally picked up on the scent of a small watering hole in the Southlands, but she wasn't the only one.
The grey lion put her nose to the ground and sniffed. There were other cats here as well... Several lions, and another cat that she couldn't quite identify. She knew that she could possibly be invading their territory, but it seemed like a small risk to take in order to get a drink of cool, refreshing water.
