Nereida stepped back in surprise. The horse was even bigger out of the stall! She stepped back towards it cautiously.
"What do we do with her now?"
She was not particularly experienced in the area of horses, after all.

"I groomed her earlier, but we can do it again if you want. She likes it," Kayce added, gently patting the prancing filly's neck. She loved spending time around and with Missy. The horse was a perfect companion. "Or we can take her for a ride." It would be a bareback ride, since they both couldn't ride in a saddle simultaneously, but bareback was a lot of fun, so long as there was no galloping involved.
Missy stretched out her neck to sniff at Nereida's face, making an inquisitive sound as if to say, 'Hello. What are you?'

Nereida made a very good effort not to flinch as the horse sniffed at her face, but she had the overwhelming fear that it was going to bite her.
And that would not have been good.
Trying to shrug it off as a sneeze, she ducked away from it.
"Achoo!"

Missy threw her head back for a moment, startled by the sneeze. She recovered quickly though and pricked her ears forward, stretching out her neck again to eye Nereida with a mixture of curiosity and reproach.
"Are you allergic?" Kayce inquired curiously. She knew that some beings were allergic to animal hair. Maybe Nereida was allergic to horses.

"I don't think so," replied Nereida. "No," she decided, "I feel better already."
It was just so big!
"We can ride her?" Nereida asked, finding herself entertained by the possibility. What was riding a horse like? Was it like flying, the way swimming was? Like something big and strong was holding you up and carrying you to destinations unknown?
In this back yard, that could very well be the case.

Had Kayce been one to show emotion, she likely would have looked relieved. As it was, her expression remained neutral, and she nodded an affirmative. Of course they could ride her! "Yes. Neither of us are very heavy, so she can carry both of us."
Either Missy understood human speech or she simply sensed that she was going to go running. The end result was the same. She gave an eager dance, only stopping when Kayce pulled down the bridle and made as if to put it on her.
"I don't think we can both fit in a saddle, though, so we'll have to ride bareback," the fae added practically. She didn't mind bareback. Hopefully, Nerida didn't either.

Nereida wasn't sure what that was, but it seemed like fun.
"Sure!" she replied happilly, stepping a little closer to the horse. She then looked seriously at Kayce. She knew that she'd sound stupid if she asked, but look stupid if she didn't. "What's bareback?"

Kayce carefully slipped the bridle over Missy's head and carefully buckled it closed. She slid a hand beneath the straps to double-check the fit. She did give Nereida a mildly bemused look. Perhaps she should have guessed that the water-oriented fae would not know about horses.
"Bareback means that we sit right on her back, without a saddle or a pad of any kind," she added practically before turning to lead Missy out the open stable door. "There's a block out here that we can use to get on her back," she called back, gesturing at the other fae. It wasn't that she needed the block to get up on the horse's tall back, but she figured Nereida wouldn't be able to jump that high.

"Ah... Okay," Nereida murmured, following Kayce and Missy out. She could have guessed that. Why hadn't she?
She sized up the block and then sized up the horse.
"Yeah, I think I'll need that."

"I used to need it too," Kayce pointed out as she led Missy up beside the block, the horse's left side closer to the wooden platform. Though there were two stairs leading up to the block, she simply put her free hand on the platform and vaulted up. She didn't feel like showing off, but it was oh-so much more interesting that way, not using those bloody stairs.
"Put your hands on her back and lean over her a bit, and then put your right leg over," she said to Nereida, demonstrating as she gave instructions. It wasn't hard, not with the block up this high.
And Missy, for once understanding that she had to behave, was not doing her usual fidgeting and prancing and was actually standing quite still beside the mounting block, head turned slightly to watch the green-skinned fae.

Nereida watched Kayce demonstrate and then also scrambled up onto the block, foregoing the stairs (though not as gracefully as Kayce.) With minor difficulty, she climbed onto the horse, sliding into place behind Kayce.
That wasn't so bad.
Geez, it was high up here!
"What now?" she asked anxiously.

"Hold on?" Kayce suggested mildly before lightly tapping the horse's sides with her heels. She turned slightly to glance back at the other fae. "She won't go too fast."
At the prompting, Missy started into a slow walk. While Kayce kept a good hold on the reins, the horse continued to meander about, sniffing at this and that whilst waiting for permission to break into a no-holds-barred gallop. She liked to run; she couldn't help it. It was in her nature.

Nereida jerked as the horse began to move beneath her, but gradually got used to the clopping motion. Not so bad, she thought. Perhaps even enjoyable.
"Cool," she stated, smiling.
