Alex walked in after her, and then raised an eyebrow as she headed towards the seafood. I hope she's just over there because she's hungry, he thought to himself, hoping it wasn't because of her changed biology. But, first, he should worry about his own hunger, and picked up a plate and some silverware.

With the many choices offered, Alex decided to just hit a wide range of food for his dinner. A piece of chicken, some egg rolls, fried rice, a burger, and a diet coke. He grinned some at his assortment of choices, both because it was some he'd gotten used to eating a lot and some he hadn't gotten to enjoy overseas.

Walking back with his plate, he walked over to Alys, and chuckled, "I guess you found something to eat", he said, sitting down at a table. "I hope you're feeling better now that you're inside."

He did have to admit it was nice to be back inside where there was some more heat. It might not get very cold on the island but it still probably wasn't comfortable to be outside at night after falling in the lake.

Alys chuckled, nodding and sitting down, "Much better," she replied, taking off the jacket, and placing it on the table so it was out of the way.

She noticed his plate, and the amount of food on it. He must be hungry. It take her long to lift the fork and start eating, crabmeat first. She never thought she would appreciate the taste of as much as she did now.

"Delicious," she murmured, sipping at the glass of water.

He smiled as he watched her eat then got to the business of eating, working on eating some of the chicken first. He grinned a bit at the taste, before washing it down some with the coke he'd gotten. It wasn't that it was uncommon for him to eat a lot in one sitting. He'd often have to skip lunch if he was busy working on something, back when he was still running his business. And working down in the motor pool of the labs that morning was no exception to his 'Skip Lunch' mentality.

"Well, I guess on the plus side of things, you're going to have no problem with your preferred food of choice considering your changes." He took a bottle of soysauce and poured a bit of it on both the piece of chicken he was eating as well as his eggrolls and fried rice.

"For being stuck here, the food's pretty good. I'd give it three stars if it didn't come with the reservation restrictions." The pilot sipped his coke a bit more, before returning to tug the meat from the chicken bone.

Alys chuckled, and shoved another forkfull of crabmeat in her mouth. When she swallowed, she gave a nod.

"Definitely won't argue with you there. Although, I can't help but wonder..." Another sip of water, and she was ready to ask...

"Do you know what you're turning into? Outta curiosity."

He chuckled a bit, even as he cleaned the chicken bone of anything that might be worthy to eat, before turning to snack on one of his egg rolls. The food really wasn't that bad, although it he did wonder what the menu had for those much further along in their changes. Even as he mulled the thought over, he chewed on the egg roll, occasionally dipping it in some soy sauce.

Maybe he didn't even hear the question, as he continued to eat quietly, only realizing that he'd been asked a question by the time he'd finished off his egg roll. "Huh? Oh, me?" He really needed to pay more attention, and not let his thoughts wander so much, and so he shook his head.

"No. I figured it wasn't worth bothering the lab folks about something like that. If I knew what was coming, I'd just be a wreck and would end up spinning my propeller doing nothing but getting myself in trouble. Maybe thats why I hated being the boss. Always knew what sort of financial problems I was gunna face. Its easier just to face your problems as they come to you... or at least for me." It was true, he didn't want to find out. Maybe he'd never find out. If he didn't know, it wasn't something to worry about.

He picked up his fork and started to eat some of the fried rice on the plate. Part of him knew he shouldn't have said more than "no" to the question, but ta ma duh if he didn't ramble on.

"Fair enough," she replied. Starting on the Cod fillets she'd gotten as well.

"I didn't know what I was until the change, now I just want to know what I'll be in for by knowing a precise species. I could at least research it a little better than I've managed to do now."

A sigh, and she had another sip of water, "I figured I'd ask, it seems to be a common question these days."

He nodded a bit, deciding he could wait to answer the question until after he'd eaten some of the fried rice. Plus, talking to her would allow him to sprinkle some more soy sauce on the fried rice.

"Didn't mean to get all defensive there. I guess when you put it like that though, it makes sense why you would like to know exactly whats going on with you though." He took a sip of his coke, washing down some of the fried rice taste in his mouth.

"I'm sure you'll figure out exactly what you are. I mean, are there really that many species of octopus you could be?"

"No worries, I guess it's technically a personal question," she almost chuckled at the thought.

Alys gave him an odd look when he asked how many different species there were, almost as if asking if he was serious. Another bite of her fish fillet and she started thinking on the numbers she'd found thus far.

"I was reading this book on aquatic life just after the change, and there's something like two-hundred-eighty-nine different octopus species... And, I think two-hundred-ninety-eight species of squid... I can't remember the numbers too well, but there's a lot to choose from," another bite from her fillet.

"Might be easier to just ask them, rather then look through countless books for the one that looks the most like my tentacles."

Its was probably a good thing he'd finished drinking that sip of coke because Alex's mouth just opened in suprise, his fork falling from his finger tips onto his plate. "Oh geez..." Ok, so the number was well over 500 possible choices.

He tried to regain some composure by picking up his burger instead and taking a bite out of it, chewing both the burger and the thoughts of so many possible choices of squid and octopus. He swallowed the food down, looked back over, "I hope they won't give you a lot of red tape to find out."

A small thought crossed his mind as he ate. The question he pondered sounded reasonable to ask, so he did just that, "What do you think I'll change into?" He knew he'd thought about the question himself and come up blank. Maybe someone else would have an idea, or at the very least an entertaining choice.

Alys leaned back in her seat, pondering his question, "Difficult to say," She said, after a few moments of silence.

That was a good question, actually. It gave her the chance to stop thinking about what she might look like after the changes finished - if they ever would.

"Maybe a canine, like a Siberian Husky or something... or maybe a hawk. Or some kind of bird..." She started, "I think a bird would probably suit the way you lived your life; in the sky... But the way they choose serums could be completely random for all I know."

She decided to stick with the two she thought to be more probable, "I think a canine or a bird."

He smiled and nodded to the answer. They seemed good enough choices as any, and it wasn't like he felt too bad about the reasoning behind them. Then again, there was that factor where it was just possible it just might totally random.

"Thanks. I've been wondering it a lot, and even though I'd rather not know, its nice to hear what others think. Its sort of like those old games where you'd guess how many jelly beans were in a jar or something." He sort of assumed she meant her becoming an octopus by the comment about them sometimes going with a totally random serum though. It didn't make much sense to him why she'd have been given in a serum to be some sort of sea creature, but then again, quite a few things didn't make sense.

She chuckled, mainly so the air in the room didn't seem so serious. Serious was bad. Serious led to pain.

"I'm almost positive mine was random. I think if they wanted to give me something that reflected my life and career, they'd probably choose a vulture or something," Actually, hadn't she seen a woman that looked like a vulture? Nevermind.

"Hopefully you won't get anything icky or squishy... Actually, what would you prefer? I mean, not being injected is obviously a number one preference, but since that's out of the question, what kind of animal would you rather be?"

A vulture?, he thought to himself. He really hoped that was her idea of a joke about her being a mortician before she got sent here. "Well, I guess what you mentioned might be good. Its hard to say really what I'd pick for myself."

It was a good question though, considering he was the one who prompted it with his original question. He chewed on some more of his burger as he thought. "Well, I hope its not a sea bird. It would be a shame if octopus was on the menu." Ok, maybe her joke about being a vulture was better than his own attempt to lighten the mood.

"But yeah, I agree, I'm not sure I'd handle being either icky or squishy very well." He shivered at a thought. "Reminds me of this day I was doing this cargo run, and one of the crates had these big hissing cockroaches in it. Damn things nearly gave me a heart attack while I was flying. I probably fumagated that plane at least 3 times after that."

She smiled at his humor, partially agreeing that it would be a little awkward if her serum was on his serum's menu. That would suck.

She gave a nod. Squichy sucked, but she couldn't talk. She was turning into something slimey and squishy. Great.

"I'd feel sorry for someone if they got a roach... Imagine all the people who'd want to spray them. But I suppose if there was ever a nuclear attack, they'd probably survive with little damage or radiation..." That made her think. Would the people here somehow become super-human?

Would they have the life expectancy of the animal they were becoming? Suddenly she was afraid. Most octopuses and squid die after mating... Oh ********.

I'm never having sex again.

Yeah, he probably would act the same way if he ever met a roach serum victim, at least he was sure the person meant no harm. But that didn't mean he was thinking much about it as he finished off his burger. In fact, he tried not to, or he might start to lose his desire to finish off his food.

"I'm sure it'll turn out ok, I hope." He looked down at his plate and started to finish off any of the bits he'd missed before. Still, it did make him wonder why they'd want to experiment on folks, turning them into various creatures. Did they want to see just how adaptable a person was, what they could become, what they might provide for the future, or was this just something from the depths of someone's very unrational mind. He seriously doubted he'd ever know the real answer.
