Wicca was created in the 1900s by Gerald Gardner, stop trying to make it sound ancient and mysterious, everyone knows it's not old now. Its been proven by professional scholars and historians for god's sake.

And if there were no records, how would you know about it? rolleyes Seriously, kids these days and their "ainchent religonz".

Try some real history.

Wonderfully useful information, but please present it in a bit more of a... not so mean light?

I agree with Phoenixfire Lune Soleil
But in a much less omg you're an idiot tone =P
Though is is disappointing that people don't learn more about what they believe, I understand it as a norm. The fact that wicca was created only sixty some odd years ago just seems to confuse people. Polytheism is ancient, Wicca is a newer religion based off of polytheism, but also not the only polytheistic religion, just the most popular one right now. Which is another sad thing for me due to so many teens not wanted to really take the time to appreciate the religion but merely wanting the title "Witch"
Where I went to school was mostly those, the teens who didn't know what it was only that they liked the idea of it. The kind that plastered their bodies with pentacles and called them pentagrams.....='(
Anyone with basic geometry knowlege should know better.
As for the original topic, I don't really reference it as magic or magick, I call it my craft. I don't practice wicca really, and the word craft just seems to work better with my eclectic religious concoction.

Hrm.

Well seeing as how the numerological reason was never actually stated in the thread and it IS for learning, I thought I'd share this...I copy and pasted it from..about.com, I think.

Q. Why is Magick Sometimes Spelled with a K?
From Terri Paajanen,

A. The 'k' is used by some Pagans (but not all) to refer to true magick, to differentiate from stage magic.

Modern usage of this spelling is attributed to Aleister Crowley, who supposedly added the 'k' for numerological reasons as well. 'K' is the 11th letter in the alphabet, and 11 is a powerful master number. From a numerological perspective, 11 represents intuition, creativity, and inspiration. Qualities that he felt were suited to the word 'magic'.

Also according to Crowley, magick is defined as "the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will." I think that sums it up nicely.

Hope that's helpful.

Hmm... I've always found 9 was the most powerful number, it being three times three (referring to the threefold law, the trinity, etc.) here. It appears in lots of spells as well as such. Why would 11 be such a powerful number? I'm curious.

"Stage magick" is trickery plain and simple
I can respect Sleight of hand for entertainment
But It Is Not Magic!

Actually Wicca is beleived to have come from celtic Druids
not sure if this is completely true But it makes some sense
and iI know it wasn't from the 1900's perhaps it came into
public veiw at that time but the religion is older than catholcism
This is historically recorded as true

(also I am not ecspeacially fond of the term witch but it seems to be the only way to get the point across when explaining the wiccan religion)
