Prayer to Steve and his family. Many people will try and finish his quest to educate and love animals as much as he did. I loved you Steve and may you rest in peace.

yay! so true!

As you may or may not have heard, the famous "croc hunter" Steve Irwin died this Monday morning (Labor day) off of the north coast of Australia. The famous TV icon and animal conservationist was shot thorugh the chest by a stingray's barb. He had been swimming over the creature at the time to film it for a show, and it took his presence as a threat and attacked. Irwin has a wife, Terry, and two children, Bindi (born in '98 ) and Robert (aka Bob: born in '03). He also ran the Australia Zoo in Queensland.

I believe that I'm not the only person who is incredibly shocked and upset by this. Irwin was famous for his love of animals, and he was a real inspiration of love for creatures like reptiles that many people used to think of as only dangerous, creepy, and "gross." He truly was an inspiration to those of us who cared about animals like he did. He also, from what I've seen, appeared to be one of the friendliest and most genuinely good-natured people on the planet. He stopped his car during trips to shoo snakes off the road, always seemed to be laughing and smiling, and even waved and shouted hello to everyone on the street during a simple taxi ride in New York City (no matter what kind of looks someone gave him). The official article about his death from CNN can be found here.

Perhaps this would fit better in the Current Events topic, but I felt Irwin deserved to be on the front page of the forums, where everyone will see. The world, its people, and certainly its animals will miss him thoroughly. I know I feel like I still need to wake up from this bad dream.
oh my god he was my
fav. person! i love u steve. come back!! R.I.P. crying

There's a video in YouTube that shows the accident.
I really know that this is an accident.
But I liked to believe that Setve is just not seeing the stingray's 'stance', or just attacked when he wants to leave the stingray.
Most Stingrays are 'emotional' creature. I can see that In the first time, the ray had challenged Steve, after he wants to run from him.
Might be unseen, the stingray's tail has been raised for a long time, ready to attack him.
Not long after that, the tail moves very fast, and Steve, somewhat like throwed to the backside, and shocked for the last time in his whole life....
I can't really remember how's it happened, I have a bad memory, but at least this is what my memory told me.
Sorry if I make some of you sad again...

Steve was one of the people that got me interested in reptiles. R.I.P Steve. All tho I wasn't really that surprised when I herd about his death. I had a feeling someday it was going to happen, but a stingray is the last thing I'd expect him to get killed by.

To be honest if it wasn't for that man I may never have wanted to study animals, he was an inspirational figure on the road to my soon to be career. That day was one of the worst days ever for me.

crying He was like a father to me. i grew up watching his show and he got me into conservation. when jeff corwin came out i didnt watch him as much but he was still the one that i admired and wanted to be like. i now donate, write letters/emails to congress, etc. in order to save wildlife because of him. My fam. is like "s***w wildlife so i know i didnt learn it from them! God bless his soul and may Terri teach Bindi to be just like her father! heart

i hate it when people say he was harassing animals for his show and stuff...
1.if the animals didnt like it they would get away and stuff i mean its not like he was squeezing them or anything....
2. he did that stuff even when the cameras WERENT rolling its not a stupid stunt
3.he loved animals more than anyone i know and he wanted to teach others about them

my uncle met him a few times because we live next to the town where terrys parents live and they would come to visit and my uncle works at the airport.....

I totally agree with you! i also hate it when people say Stingrays are evil becaus of what they did to steve. if they truley loved steve, they would realize steve isnt mad at the stingray! Steve used to say "If something goes wrong it always the humans fault, not the animals!"
Thats why i love this picture i found so much:

My dream had been to meet him someday, and now that dream is shattered and i still havent healed...I feel like i lost someone very close even tho we never met and he lives a bagillion miles away...He raised me. No one, i repeat, no one, in my fam gives a horses behind about animals. Most of the guys hunt, no one evr lets me donate. I am the odd one out in my fam. becuz i am an animal fanatic! I am always grounded becuz i sneak donations out, and i sneak injured.orphaned wildlife into my room. My different personality and beliefs are because of Steve Irwin. I watched his show since i was born. His show was playing in the emergency room when i was born so his voice was one of the first voices i heard. My grama dosnt think the way i do, but she is the only one who respects it. She was flippen through the channels and when i heard steve irwins voice, this was when i was about 1 year old, i crawled over to the TV and just stared and listened. My gram knew at that moment that, well, i loved Steve Irwin, and i remembered his voice from the birthing room TV, so everyday she put his show on for me. When i turned 3, i would just go and watch it on my own. I have only missed a few episodes, and that was because of emergencies or parties that i was forced to go to =D
Sorry, for the babbiling, i just got into Steve Irwin mode=D heart heart heart
