Ooh~! Well, its a long story.
To tell you the truth what sparked my interest in this pairing was because I've always been an enormous fan of maingirl/antihero pairings and you can blame CLAMP for that wink . But that's not all of what makes this pairing so leet awesome; you see, I believe that the incarnation - for lack of better word - of Sakura's immaturity in Part1 was the lack of ability of comprehending Naruto's and Sasuke's loneliness and I could quote that but I'm too lazy to look through the manga. Anyway, I think pairing Sakura up with Gaara would do wonders for her in terms of character development; she's matured and she's not choosing one teammate over the other - which is a reason I dislike NaruSaku and SasuSaku. Also, there's also the general fact, especially after the timeskip, that Gaara resembles both Sasuke and Naruto and in a way pairing Sakura up with Gaara would show how she has matured and that she loves her teammates so much that she would fall for someone that resembles them without destroying the snake-toad-slug balance established by Kishimoto. Another thing I'd like to add is knowing how well Sakura is following Tsunade's footsteps she could easily fall for a kage seeing how much Tsunade loved her brother and boyfriend that wanted to be Hokage, Naruto may be the brother and Gaara could be Dan that way. I guess, jeez, a kage, it can't get any better than that and Sakura deserves no less! blaugh
It wouldn't do only well for Sakura, it'd do very well for Gaara too. One could say that the three characters that have suffered the most are Naruto Sasuke and Gaara but one thing Sasuke and Naruto have that Gaara doesn't is that they're teammates of the big three main characters - Sasuke Naruto and Sakura. You could look at GaaSaku as not only Gaara becoming closer to Team7 but also becoming a more important character in the story. Is that all? No. It is a pretty well known fact in canon that Sakura reminded Gaara of Yashamaru, if Sakura and Gaara got together you could say that Gaara gained the love he never had when he was little and even if Gaara denied it he really did love his uncle. Fourthly I think it would be very good character development seeing how Sakura was supposed to represent human weaknes in part1 along with being a normal girl; GaaSaku would show how Gaara has really become more human and normal and he's given up on his old ways even more and that wouldn't have the same effect if he was paired up with, say an extremely powerful jinchuuriki girl or whatever. Lastly, you don't have to look too hard to see that Sakura seems to be at her strongest points near the Sand siblings so far in the manga. biggrin
