"With any luck at all that's how it'll turn out. But time's a tricky thing, and I think we learned that by screwing it up. Can only hope, after it's fixed, that nobody tries it out again.
If you don't get anything from it but hurt, I'd say good riddance to it. Say, I were to find myself a bonnie lass, and she were from the far future, say we even had a child together. What's to happen to that child when times fixed? Tis half from my time half from the future? No, I think I'd like forgetting such an event instead of worrying over for the rest of my life." Wow... he hadn't expected to go there with his thoughts...
"No, suppose not." Shane chuckled at the thought of LOTUS and Janus having a decent conversation.

"Well...there isn't much we can do about anyways, except follow Shee and Wraith. They must know what they're doing. But Time is surely a messy potion to deal with." Eponine sighed philosophically at the last remark, and leaned back - before realizing there was no back to the bench, and toppled over. "EEEE!" she squeaked.

If ever a moment for a topple such as that, it was then. Before he would double himself over in laughter, Shane scrambled up to give her a hand. Leaning over her, he extended a hand to her while grinning like a fool.
"Have a bit of a tumble there girly?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just scratches." By pure misfortune, there just had to be a rosebush lying in wait behind where she had chosen to sit.
"Sorry, sorry," she mumbled, reminiscent of the first tumble at the beginning of their meeting. She grinned back: "Now you have to fall too, so I can help you up. Then we'll be even."

Needing the moment of light playfullness Shane merely righted her and then fell back into the grass. "Seems fair enough I guess." He said staring up at her from the ground.
There was some good fortune here, he'd not had a day to just talk with another for so long, this was one step toward a less longing for home. He was sure.

Cursteying formally (although Eponine in the musical was anything but graceful, she'd watched Cosette do it in the garden scene), Eponine held out a hand. "And your name is, sir?" she said seriously, as if the entire day had just been erased.
She attempted to wink again and failed - again.

Shane was beaming up at her and reached a hand up to her out stretched one. "Well hello there, my name's Shane, what's yours?" But before waiting for an answer he playfully gave a tug to see if he could tumble her down onto the grass with him.

"Why, I am called - " But before she could give him her name, she felt the sharp tug and instantly reacted. Her reflexes, so to speak, were programmed to defend. And so defend she did, foot immediately shooting out toward his ribs before she fell.

Shane made a sound torn between a grunt and a laugh. God the girl could kick, and with such reflexes, they were amazing. But he'd be damned if it didn't hurt. Still shrugging it off while he rubbed his bruised ribs, he laughed, "Remind to not try that again lass, I've a mind to think you may last a fair while in a brawl." He said it with a smile, even through the pain.

Eponine sprang up, looking at the scene with more horror than it deserved. "Did I just - I did, didn't I! s**t!" The curse sounded foreign coming from her. "I'm so sorry! Really really really sorry! I didn't mean to do that!"
She began backing away, looking both contrite and nervous. "Maybe I should go..."

Shane waved his hand as if to brush off her worry, "Nah, nah, twasn't the first time I've been kicked, certainly won't be the last." Pushing up from the ground to stand, hand still rubbing his side, he watched her back away slowly.
"Geez, girly, where'd you learn to kick?"

"But - still - " Eponine flustered, bowing repeatedly with a 'Sorry!' each time.
"I was...self-taught," Eponine said, for lack of a better story.

Her reaction began to help ease the pain in Shane's side. "Not to worry girly, I don't imagine I've cracked any of them. I'm made of sturdier stuff than that.
But self-taught huh? You must be one helluva teacher."

"...you sure?" Eponine said, still sounding worried.
She shrugged. "Dangerous times," she said again. "An orphan girl in the middle of a Revolution has to learn things like that."

Finally straightening his back, he stretched his neck popping it a few times. "Sure, I'm sure." And later when he was alone in his room he'd check to see just how large a bruise was there.
"Well, I'm sure it comes in handy in these times as well." Shane sighed, it was a sad time indeed when women had to learn such self defense.
