Natalie's expression immediately fell, and she slumped against the wall, fiddling with her make-shift bracelets. They really did hurt. She'd have to take them off, eventually. And the ones around her ankles - people had been stepping on the chains.

When she spoke, her voice had lost the artificial change, the strange lilt. No use hiding it, she supposed.

Oh well.

"... That easy to tell, huh?" left her blue lips before she could stop herself. Then she shook her head, still looking at the floor, and changed the subject quickly.

"Ama was being Ama," she explained, shrugging. "And since you weren't around... he didn't bother to tone it down at all."

Something in her was happy, at least, that he liked the costume. But what man wouldn't like a costume where a girl's ample chest was very obviously showcased? Even Carver was probably still vulnerable to that sort of thing.

There was the sound of ripping as a few long strips of the punk t-shirt were torn off; professionally, Carver eased the shackles off her wrists and tied the soft cotton over the red rubbed marks on her skin.

"Don't try to wear handcuffs without something underneath them," he said, - and smiled. "You'll rub yourself red raw. I'm no good at masquerade parties, I'm afraid. I have a sad old tendency to remember everybody's height - and add it on to possible high heels - and voices. You were very good, though."

Natalie blinked and watched Carver tie the scraps onto her wrists. Her mouth opened, but she didn't say anything for a moment, a little startled. Then:

"... How do you know that about handcuffs?"

She hadn't thought he was that kinky!

Slightly cheered by his praise, she smiled a little as she crouched and lifted the hem of her skirt, wiggling the shackles off of her ankles, propping them up on her calves. She held out one hand. "Any other bits of your clothing I can have?" she asked, innocently.

He went a deep, dark red, flushing like a tomato. "I was in the military, nothing quite so interesting," he said, though it was a little bit hurried. More of his t-shirt was ripped into strips; it was so old it nearly melted as he pulled it away from the garment.

Carver leant down to tie at her ankles, still flushed. "This t-shirt was nearly in the rag bin anyway," he said.

"Military, suuure," she said, giggling and winking. She blushed a little herself (though definitely not as spectacularly) as he tied the rags on. "I could've done that, you know - you didn't have to.." she said, softly, but slipped the shackles down once he was done, standing up again.

"If you needed a costume, you could've come to me - I wouldn't have minded whipping something up, you know," she said, absently, making sure her wrist shackles hid the fabric scraps.

"Oh - there was something I wanted to tell you. I think you'll be happy to hear that nothing ever came of me and Thorn." Another smile, this time slightly sad - she still wasn't all together recovered, but very close.

"So I'm nice and safe and not being taken advantage of."

Whatever he had been about to say - some little trifle about the costume - was taken away and put on probation as Carver absorbed this new info. He smiled at her, a little ruefully, one hand on her shoulder; he didn't look as if the information pleased him, as he wasn't quite that tacky, but he looked slightly relieved.

"I'm still not happy with him being here in the compound at all," he said. "He's a predator."

She nodded, slightly, thinking and pursing her lips.

"I'm still not sure about that. But... I found out some unsavory things that may have happened - that I was the other woman yet again, in a way - and ended things before they even began. I... it wasn't pretty. I'm ashamed at how I acted that night. I made a lot of assumptions that I still don't have any sort of proof for.

"But whatever is true about him, it's done with him. I'm not sure I want to get involved again - I'm not sure I could take digging and finding out how bad he might be. You know?"

She leaned into his hand a little, closing her eyes for a moment.

"I still trust him, and want to trust him. I just... I'm not going to rely on him. Still, I want to think the best... because no matter what he may or may not have done to Hadrian-" the name slipped out without her thinking about it- "he was still kind to me when I needed somebody."

"Look," Admon said comfortably to Chloe. "I can only continue kitty innuendo so long before I get to the word 'p***y', so I'm just gonna say it right here. Wanna help me taste-test this punch for the right amount of whiskey? You can do it while you tell me about what kinda panties you're wearing."

Carver's voice hardened. "I would not trust a man who tried to take advantage of you when you were hurting," he said, though it was fairly obvious his quiet anger was directed at Thorn and not her. "Natalie, this is an ugly man. What did he do to Hadrian? What is he doing to everybody? He seems like a spider waiting to snare you all in his web."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 5:23 pm

"But he didn't take advantage of me! I mean. Maybe he used he opportunity to get closer, but he never actually did anything. If anything, he just seemed to see me as a little sister. Or something. I don't know. But it didn't seem at all... sexual. Or anything."

She stiffened a little at Hadrian's name. Maybe she shouldn't have mentioned him?

"... It's... personal. And I don't know all the details. Thorn just... is very much attracted to Hadrian. Which is apparently causing problems with Hadrian's actual relationship - was causing, because it's over now, as far as I know."

Natalie leaned back against the wall.

"I haven't seen him in weeks, really, so I wouldn't know anything he's been up to. I've been too busy sewing... haven't seen much of anybody, really.

"So - what have you been up to?" she said, desperately trying to change the subject off of Thorn.

Chloe arched a brow. Spiking the punch, was he? Well that should definitely liven things up here. Parties were so much more fun when people were drunk. Other people of course. Chloe liked watching them make complete fools of themselves while she maintained her cool composure. It gave her a certain image.

"I'll take a taste, but let's skip the panties part," she purred. No, it took a lot more effort than that to find out that information. "How much are you putting in?"

"I'm pretty much looking for 'dancing on the tables', so, just enough to not make 'em have their stomachs pumped," said the redhead. He dosed it up a little more, swished the contents around, and poured Chloe a generous amount before handing her the cup. "Trick is to mix it in so you can only just taste it. Here, see if that strips the paint off your walls."

Chloe graciously took the cup, swirled it around a bit, and then took a sip. She made a slight clicking noise with her tongue as she attempted to evaluate the taste. It was definitely 'dancing on tables' material, though a bit strong.

"It's a bit more than 'just a taste,'" she commented thoughtfully. "However, I think only a tongue trained in alcohol will be able to tell. If I got my friend, Remi, over here, she wouldn't have a clue."

That poor girl needed to get drunk. She was so high strung all the time, always worrying about something. It had always been one of Chloe's goals to get Remi to loosen up and just have fun, even if it was only for one evening.

This pretty much only proved that the mild-mannered were prone to have friends who were not so much, if you took both Carver and Remi and Chloe and Ama; Admon grinned toothily, with far more dental than an oak tree was meant to have.

"Give you ten bucks if you manage to get Remi pissed out her skull," he said. "She won't accept a drink from me, I'm a bad boy."

"His motives, Natalie." Unfortunately, when Carver was on something, he was very hard to shift. "I can't bear the fact that you let this man hurt you. The sooner he's away from this place, the better. I'll speak to - I'll talk to Dacian; I'll talk to Hadrian - why is this man here? Why is he bloody here? Preying on you - I wouldn't believe anything else of him. I've seen this happen before. I've watched this happen before. You're too young and sweet to see what a colossal waste of space he is."
