Ah, the greatest story ever told.

The Bible.

(numerous authors)

That is true...it's just a giant story book. Some of the entries in it are pretty interesting, but others are just kind of...blah.

Anyway, here are my suggestions for those of us into Vampires and that lot.

Any and All books by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes.

Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klaus (Loup-Garou(werewolf) story with a mild love story running throughout too.)

Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klaus (Vampire story with love story running through it.)

The Dark Spectre by Michael Dibdin. (This book can confuse some people, because it has several stories that in the end, will tie up together. Can be rather...descriptive about certain things like drugs, how they think God is a crock of s**t, etc..It's a good read if you like things like that.)

This Bitter Ecstasy by Serita Stevens. (Historical Romance, Classic. Mostly a "girly" book, because of it's rich romance theme. Takes place during the Reign of the Sun King, Louis XIV (I believe) It's a good book, and can hit home to some people.)

Satan's Underground by Lauren Stratford. (There is a warning on the book: The portrayal of evil in this book, though substantially restrained, may be difficult emotionally for some to handle. Reader Discretion is advised. Sounds silly doesn't it? This is what the description said on the back of the book.

"As a child, Lauren Stratford lived the agony of being trapped between two worlds--the outside world of church, school and friends, where everything appeared normal, and the inner world of a twisted, Satanic Nightmare, where mind control, fear and ritualistic child abuse were her constant companions. Satan's Underground is Lauren's true story, and it is perhaps the most shocking, terrifying, unforgettable story of satanic manifestations ever told. Readers from coast to coast will be shocked and disturbed by the story told here. But most of all, they will come to care deeply for the many thousands of innocent children who are faced with unspeakable horrors at the hands of modern-day satanists."

This is just what the back said. I do recommend it, because it's a really good book. I've never been so intrigued and so horrified at the same time.)

I also know that there are people out in the world who practice Satanism for what it stands for, not for the attention-getting title. Don't think that I am bashing on them.^_^ Enjoy your selections.

"Ludwig Witgenstein The Blue and Brown Books Preliminary Studies for the 'Philosophical Investigations'"

I got this book from my campus library and it was very good read.

are you kidding, i hope?

Wittgenstein is a genius but to me he's IMPOSSIBLE to follow!

unless you read German which i don't.

but he's both deep and dense.

Aurelia, i appreciate the way you add a few words of explanation for each book, that really is helpful.

Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East by Baird Spalding is very fascinating.
it's a documentation of a trip to the himalaya done by british scientists if i am not wrong , who meet a spiritual buddhist master and actually get to understand how magic really works.

the Carlos Castaneda books are written in a somewhat similar way, Castaneda being an american Anthropologist who happens to become a student of a mexican shaman.

in both writings, written out of the persepective of avarage not super spiritual humans, the reader really gets a glimpse at how the invisible world is structured and consciously percievable and how to move in it.

Memnoch The Devil by Anne Rice. (Book V of The Vampire Chronicles-The story of how Lestat is taken by Memnoch to both Heaven and Hell. Excellent read! It is suggested that you read the first four books though, otherwise you might get lost.)

And Chessie, I enjoy providing descriptions. You can't just read a book because of it's title. You have to read a bit about it first.

Peter Matthiessen ... writes ecology-based dramas.

they have excellent characterization and accurate beautiful settings
sometimes a dreamlike hypnotic quality
sometimes raw dark edgy confrontation and violence.

it is about mother nature, but is in no way cute or sentimental.

Far Tortuga is one title;

The Snow Leopard is another.

i feel Needful Things is a masterpiece.

some of his other works, like The Stand, get strung out and scattered, in my opinion.

I like books by Kenneth Oppel. My favorite books of his are Firewing, Silverwing, and Sunwing. Those books are the best. They are about bats, and the author makes the bats seem like they are human, the way they talk and the feelings they have. There are t.v. series but they aren't nearly as good as the books. Especially if you see the shows first and then read the books. This is what it says on the back of the book of Firewing (the third sequel).

The forest heaves and splits in a terrible quake, and Griffin, a Silverwing newborn, is sucked down a fissure deep into the earth. Shade, Griffin's father, soon realizes that his son has been drawn into the Underworld and embarks on the most dangerous of journeys to rescue him. Shade knows he must find Griffin quickly: legend dictates that if the living stumble into the land of the dead, they have only a short time before death claims them too. But something else is hunting Griffin-a deadly foe Shade hoped he would never see again.

I love that book! Firewing is a Mr.Christie's Book Award Silver Medal Recipient, and a Red Maple Award Honour Book. Also, Kenneth Oppel opened for J.K. Rowling at the Toronto SkyDome. It is such a good book and its so full of action and suspense. I have read all the sequels so many times. I recomend any of the three sequels for anyone 10+. Read the books!

Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klaus (Vampire story with love story running through it.)

I read that one-it was very good, exspecially when it talked about why he wouldn't change her mom. It was also very sad.

If you like the Giver, read "Gathering Blue" its the "squel" even though none of the original books characters are in it.

And the Pendragon set-the books get better as you read!
