Icesinger I know I'm gonna get killed for this but I think 'tis' and stuff is sorta silly, it reminds me on Ren fairs. Agreed. I try to speak politely, though I don't really consider it speaking Lolita... just seems like common courtesy? wink

I do try to speak politely most of the time, although swearing gets the better of me sometimes in everyday speech. And going so far as "tis" and "thou" does seem a bit silly, if you don't mind my saying.

I never swear and I am very polite. This annoys people and is why don't have very many friends. It's odd to be polite when you're 13 or 14 years old. And saying tis is kind of... ummm... let's just say people only say it most of the time when they are trying to be silly. It's not really the way people talked in Victorian or baroque time periods either, I do believe, which are the time periods lolita are mainly based on. But you can say that if you want! I'm sorry! (another thing I do is apologize WAYYY too much. I mean for everything I do, even if theres no point in apologizing) this post is too long.

I most definitely read and write in a similar pattern. One incident when I was presenting a project to my class, the teacher stopped me and asked if I was speaking in an faint English accent. Apparently I do that often, especially when I'm sleepy or ill.
My friends are used to it, and now use "well" and "good" in appropriate areas and avoid "get" and "got". I didn't force them, I just gave a small explination of how horrid the words sound and feel.
They say I'm an odd child, but we all love me. ^^
otherwise my manner of speach is only a bit more eloquent than the average teenagers around my area since I do tend to make quick statements often.

I write both English and Japanese without falter. I don't use slang, I use the more honorific phrases in both languages as well (for example, I will say Tojiro-dono rather than Tojiro-san. As well calling others Mr.[insert surname here] rather than by their first name).
I can't speak, because I'm a Mute, in case you were wondering. My writing style depends greatly on the language I am writing in. I write with a style similar to Monotype Corsiva or Rage Italic LET when writing in English, and I write with a brush-like fluid motion. I'm hopelessly neat. sweatdrop

Icesinger I never have used 'tis' and 'thou' I just speak politely, slow, and clear. I know I'm gonna get killed for this but I think 'tis' and stuff is sorta silly, it reminds me on Ren fairs. blaugh I do the same thing. It's wierd because I've done it since I could speak and I grew up around "country-folk" so my family would joke and call me proper. But recentlly, alot of the Lolis I havg around have gotten into speaking like babies. whee They said my voice reminded them of a 3-year-old and it inspired them. XP Now, 3nodding I'm addicted to speaking in 3rd person alot and saying "mi a" & "ne" and every time someone asks how old I am, I love to say "3 years-of-age". sweatdrop It's really fun and addictive, but I worry I insult alot of the more "mature" Lolitas.

I correct people's grammar sometimes, though this is an obnoxious habit that I'm trying to break... and I agree that "tis" and "thou" can sound rather silly. (I do speak in faux-medieval when I'm being goofy, though.)
I think manners are important, but not just in lolita fashion. A lot of the things that people describe as "lolita lifestyle" (having good manners, having tea parties with your younger siblings, making sure you're clean, blowing bubbles...) are really things that all people ought to do anyway. Yes, courtesy is underrated these days, but it's so precious.

mew_mew_mi-chan I think speaking Lolita is speaking in an older fashion and using proper grammar. I speak in a more proper way a lot, although when I'm not it's far from it. I say "'tis" all the time, and even correct people on their grammar. Does anyone else speak in this way, or similar? The "A" says.. No offense, but unless someone's grammar is AWFUL, I can't stand it when someone 'grammar-nazi's. I just try not to curse. [which I'm bad at] I already had a habit of saying things in japanese at random.
The "A" has spoken.

I speak very clear. Sometimes I'm not really polite to people I know, but I am very polite around strangers.

Er- I'm way more polite to strangers. Yeah, I curse.
And, I've try to start speaking more formally, like I used to, but my friends are pretty much s**t. >___< Excuse my cursing.
If I appear different in the slightest way, they go something like "What's with you?" "Why are you talking like that?" "Haha! You said 'concur'!" "What happened to the ooolllllddddd Haru?" "Blahblahblahblah- are you listening?!"
I'm pretty much expected to be cold, apathetic, and mean. Which is a pretty good description of my personality most of the time. But there's more than one side to a coin.
Argh. I should really start back up. And stop typing before I give myself a bigger headache.
