I'm sorry, but I generally HATE IT when people that button mashes.
scream
Button smashing does work. Yes, you can beat people with it, but it takes no skills, and takes the fun out of it. However, it occurs to me that some people like seeing themselves win even if they're just smashing on the controller, and when they execute an awesome hard move, they're like "HAH! Look at that!". But they can NEVER do it again.
When I play a fighting game, I take it easy and read the instructions. Then I start combining buttons. If something cool comes up, I go to practice mode to try to do it again.
I'm actually surprise lots of people button mashes, but yeah, somehow I'm kind of not surprised. I see that more often, guys take the time to learn combos, while girls don't. And it's really sad when you lose to someone that button mashes and you know how to play. Because dangit, they won't let you STAND BACK up, because they'll knock you down with the same hits. crying
*sigh*

I either do button mashing, or do the same move over and over. If it works, use it duh^^ It is always fun to see the competition getting mad cause you are kickin their butt^^ If I find a combo inbetween my button mashing, and it is powerful, I use it over and over and over etc. This is my award winning strategy. When I was 5, my dad would take me to a bowling alley. He gave me two dollors to play video games. I went against a couple of adults, and won each time. HAH, I was an a** kickin kid^^ Now I am an a** kickin teen^^

Personally, I cannot stand button mashers. If I spend an hour or so in training mode learning a character and its combos, it drives me insane when someone who hasn't even played for five minutes picks up the controller and starts mashing the poor buttons. It makes me even more crazy when a person who has been playing a certain game for a while and they have button mashed the whole time. What's the joy of winning when your character is just doing the same thing over and over again? Sure, you win, but what do you get from it? "I can do this move even better now"?

I use combos. Button mashers are extremely annoying and people who use the same move over and over. But hey, whatever floats your game boat. smile

You forgot the rock. Blocking forever, time is their weapon.
Fighting games aren't my thing. -____-

daft alchemist I know there's generally two kinds of fighting game styles of play: using combos or button mashing. I started playing Street Fighter when I was about five, and I didn't even know what a combo was back then. The most I could do with combos was getting Chun Li to kick really really fast. Well, now that I'm trying to get good with Soul Calibur 3, I've had to start to teach myself to use combos, throws, and blocks. I want to be good enough to at least be a little competition for my boyfriend, and I know he'd love that too. My problem is that I still tend to button mash a bit. sweatdrop I'm getting better though. So how about you all? smile It all comes dowm to making your own stlye in fighting games, just like the characters have thier own stlye. What I do, since I've played fightin games since I was five, is limit my moves to certain types of attackes the characters have. For example, IN mortal combat deadly alliance, Lee Mai is the character I use the most. I stay with simple attacks that I can recognise and are easy and fast to use, like a simple punch and then a kick. The fast you can do it, the better. You can also make a pattern of moves for a character, or use thier special moves for maximun damage, but you have to own your stlye of making hte character fight. The faster you do it, the less time your oponent has to counter. Also if your playing a three dimentional fighting game, stepping to the side will save your a** from combos a lot of time. That's how I win anyway.

Ooooooh!!! I absolutely love fighting games! They are my favorite video game genre. When I'm playing a new fighting game, I stick with one character and learn all its moves. Then I always do combos. To me, using combos are much more effective than button-smashing.

I've never seen the appeal of fighting games and generally only play them in large groups of friends, which doesn't happen too often. When I do play though since I'm not familiar with the game I just hit buttons until something awesome happens then rather, rinse, repeat until I've pwned their a**. mad D

I button mash sometimes. sweatdrop Yet I am all for learning those combos! I usually learn a few and then play until I know I have 'em down, then I train for more combos.

I have to do some mashing before I can pick up on patterns and combinations that work out. sweatdrop Then once I got that memorized, it all comes smoothly, for the most part.
