Trumpets are cool and all...it's just they're loud, obnoxious, and the trumpets at my school are arrogant.

DataDrained i play trumpet too and hate it cause its ugly How can you say that? They are a beautiful instrument!! And how can you possibly hate it? Being a trumpet player you can play twice as loud as many other instruments!!
I think that theres nothing wrong with a bit of volume as long as you hit the right notes!!
All the trumpet players that I know are really good down to earth people, not arrogant or anything!!'they get all the attention thats why'My group of trumpets don't get all the attention, as we play well and the attention we do get during the songs themselves is well deserved and good attention. We work together as a group and create an amazing sound between us. It shows the annoying sounding instruments (alto saxophones[too squeaky], flutes[they're far too quiet] etc.) what real quality playing sounds like!

The trumpets in my band were a fair annoying group. Their leader was as arrogant as they came and bragged about the dumbest s**t. Then when it came time to play, I could barely hear them and I was sitting right in front of them! That's probably because all the good ones had graduated the year before (which I was kinda thankful for because my ears were taking a beating @_@). Sure some of the trumpets were nice outside of class, but inside class they just bugged me. If you brag generally you want to back it up.
Our clarinets were actually really quite to but I maintain it's cause two or three were interested in nothing but talking. =_=

I hate trumpets, because I played it for a long time and had no fun playing it whatsoever.
The trumpet section in my marching band was cool, though. There weren't too many stereotypical trumpet players.

hot_goth_asian_chick trumpets r loud and annoying and so r the ppl who play it. Trumpets sucks so bad and how is it hard, u press 3 ******** keys. Wow like NO. Trumpet players rock. All the ones in my band including me are the coolest people ever and we are not annoying we are just really nice people. Trumpet is harder than it looks trust me on this. Yeah we might only have 3 valves we need to press down but as soon as you get into fast runs and trills those valves become your worst enemy. You have to be able to quickly switch fingers. Then making sound on trumpet isn't as easy as everyone thinks. Then being able to control it well takes lots of practice. @x-toxic-x-muffin-x - you rock biggrin

Based on the characteristics I've seen in this thread... I'd be a trumpet player. But I play mellophone, how did that work?
Anyhow.... it varies depending on people. We had (Had because I'm a graduate, and the good one is also) a good one, a quiet one, and a mean one (I'd seriously strangle this one). Now... I'm not really sure. But I played louder than the trumpet section and all the woodwinds by myself. They loved (and still do... I think) me though, since I was the only mello in the band ^^

I am a trumpet and I know what your saying. Everyone thinks we are loud in-your-face people, but were not. I can get like that , but only if I go off on someone. The trumpet is a hard instrement to play well. Playing it is easy if you can get your mouth the right way and know the fingerings. But getting in tune with everone else can be really hard. Mostly practise and good warm up routes help alot.

Ok, Dude. Seriously. When I was in high school. I was first chair, section leader and later on in my senior year drum major. I played trumpet so lay off on the rudeness there!!! Yes, brass instruments are loud, and we get the good parts, but we are the freakin' backbone of everything you play. And as far as arrogance goes you see some of that in every instrumentalist. Everybody thinks they are better than somebody else, so what? I for one like every instrument, well except the flute ( because I could never get my mouth positioned right ). And to the people who think playing a trumpet is easy just because it has 3 valves are wrong. You have to train your lips to tighten so far it isn't funny. We have to have a lot of practice and hard work to get three octaves above the staff you know. I just don't understand why you would post something like this anyways, it is lame.

I agree, sort of. The trumpet can be hard to play, unless you actually know the right technique. Like you said, using air, opening your throat.... Sitting up straight, holding it right, actually trying, not over blowing, keeping your bell up....
I prefer the sound of cornets, though. They're not as "whiny".
...If you're talking person-wise.... Well, I'm a "trumpet" [*Cornetcoughwheeze*] player, but I'm not obnoxious. In fact, my mom thinks I should be, because I "let everyone get away with things". But my section leader.... o..o I feel sorry about saying this, but I seriously think no one likes him. Maybe they're jeleous, but I don't like him 'cause he's all, "I'M THE BESTEST!!!!!11!0n3!!!1 Ah-hahaharh." The other trumpet players in our band are either: A) Like me, but not as shy B) The "funny guy" C) Like Mr. Sectionleader, 'cause they're harold trumpets and hang around him too much
